Is there a point in developing these jewels (Coutinho), or signing them when they're already potential stars (Suarez)? There is no chance of keeping them when Barca/Madrid come a-knocking - so it's working with them for 2-3 years and if we succeed, whoopee ... and if not, 10 years with Lucas like South Americans.

Perhaps we should just focus on Scandinavians?

Nah ... scandos dream of playing for Ajax

If we are in a situation where we tend to qualify for champions league maybe once every four years and win 1-2 trophies every decade we will lose top players irrespective of nationality.

I understand this post 100% - I get the same feeling except for the bit about just signing Scandinavians !!! - but yeah I think it is a real problem and I do wonder if in South America they are just fed the Spanish league and those two top clubs all the time. I really get angry when commentators bang on about the PL all the time and its the top league blah blah blah - that's when you feel like shouting back and saying what about ronaldo, messi, suarez, bale, and every other top player that fucks off when those two big Spanish cunts come calling ? - where is this great English Premier League then ? For us in recent years going back to the McManaman saga - its been going on for a long time now.

You also have to wonder why someone like Barca/Real don't approach the likes of Aguero at City or even Wayne Rooney in his prime etc.. - did they reject any offers or is it because they could never match the wages that they are currently being payed at City/United ? in such instances the argument about being at a club that is spending big and winning consistently plus achieving regular CL qualification is I think crucial to keeping these top players.

Personally I think Barca are going through a transition and are having problems identifying top talent like all the top clubs around the world right now - the easy option is to just take the best from other clubs like ours. It pisses me off because we do have a rich European history and at the moment it seems we cannot build a squad to compete because of these approaches. If Couthinho this year - does it mean Mane next year ? when the fuck does it end ? - the end result is that top managers no longer want to come to us because they know they will not be at a club that players see as the pinnacle but rather a stepping stone to other clubs.
