Some players are for now, some are for the future and I guess this lad is more in the latter category than the former.

However, and this is why I thought I'd share this anyways, when you once in a while watch a young player that not only oozes quality and makes everything look so easy, and also does so in a position where I don't think there are too many obvious players to pick from - central midfield - you become alert.

Mathias Jensen, despite the ultra common Danish name, is a rather unique type of footballer, and one I hope we are at least monitoring. He's said himself that he's not looking for a move come January, but it seems his career is moving at a pace he's not quite expected himself, so who knows.

About a year ago very few knew about him even Denmark but after a year with top performances week in week out and for a team that is currently, and highly surprising sitting top of the Danish Superliga, brows have been raised. He's also managed to become captain for the highly successful Denmark U21 team that has now scored 19 goals in their first 4 matches in the ongoing qualifier.

Style of play
Jensen is a modern day midfielder that most of all remind me of the some of the major Spanish talents like Ceballos and maybe even some Assensio too. While I'm at it, there's is also a touch of Xabi Alonso about him at times, a faster version if you like.
He's not blistering like Usain Bolt, but his feet are quicker than the elegant Spaniard but their style of play are very similar in some areas. I am obv not going to make an argue that he'll ever reach the heights of Xabi or become as sought after as Ceballos, but there is tons of potential there to be exploited.

PROS
Amazing vision
Strong physique
Balance
Leadership (Captain at the age of 21)
Thunderous shot
Awareness
Long Passes
Short Passes
Tackling
Technique
Finishing

CONS
Untested at higher level
Age (I mean he's turning 22 this Winter and maybe some would already deem him past the 'talent' stage and therefore not good enough to end up at the top)

There are obv more CONS if you really dig into his play but fact is he seems so well rounded without any apparent weaknesses. He's the glue to the attack, setting up play and moving forward at any given chance, but he's also very aware and alert in defence, making a lot of runs and harassing opponents. All whilst looking very elegant and calm. I know this might annoy some, but he really has a swagger about him you rarely see (unless you look at the best, young Spanish midfielders as mentioned above).

Ajax have monitored the 21-year-old FCN captain all year but the club wouldn't sell this Summer after having already recently said goodbye to Emre Mor (Dortmund, now loaned out to Celta Vigo), Emiliano Marcondes (Celta Vigo come January) and Stanislav Lobotka (also Celta Vigo).

A few video highlights I could find, he's scored a handful of great goals already but the Danish league is not well covered on YouTube..

No, absolutely nothing. Even the original Alaba is shit right now.

We‘re not really good at football. Or any other sport apart from Alpine Skiing.
I've for some reason always backed Austria during the Winter Sport seasons. Obv helped that I don't think a Dane has ever been better placed than number +100 in anything remotely related to skiing.

I've always liked Austria the country too. The polar opposite to my own in terms of geography and mostly packed with cozy and friendly folks..
