Some sort of pun about having a well known member

Mario Lemina. Anyone watched him play much? He came from Juve with a big price tag and has pedigree, but looking at his stats, hasn't pulled up any trees at a turgid Soton. In fact, I don't think he even makes the first eleven anymore.

But I want him. It's not based on much, but just look at this video. I think he'd be great in our midfield. He reminds me of Moussa Dembele, who, incidentally, has poor "stats" as well.

We're tentatively linked online, but I want to get this snowballing. Come on, one last Soton raid!

He's one of the 3 players we'll sign when they're relegated for 30 million overall - Lamina, Romeo and Hojeberg.

Lemina is decent but a bit meh.
I’d rather spend some money and get Rabiot who has one year left on his contract.
He’d be superb for us, and would improve us massively.

Lemina is quality and adds depth for us

That being said, if we could snaffle rabiot I'd be in my element.

He's another box to box midfielder though. I'd rather get someone like Rabiot who has started 16 games as a DM for PSG this season.
Given Southamptons love for us, I'd wager that we'd get Rabiot for the same fee that Soton would demand for Lemina.

Dembele was a far more attacking midfielder before now, Wijnaldum isn't playing in the same position for us as he did at Newcastle or in Holland. And we also bought Hamann from Newcastle, where he was playing in an attacking midfield role.

Ronnie Whelan started out playing LW and he was turned into a DM player.

It doesn't matter that much where he's playing now, or what role he's in, as long as the ability (and suitability) is there.

Rabiot is by far a better player regardless

Lemina is an upgrade on Winaljdum for sure but if he's going to cost more than 30m maybe better to spend elsewhere..

I read up a bit on Rabiot. So it turns out his mom is also his agent and she is super specific in her demands. Here's a sampling:

His mother, and agent, has set three conditions that the club will have to meet if she and the Arsenal transfer target are to agree to any contract: the club must have an exciting project; he must be playing in his correct position (left of the central midfield); and they need to sign a new defensive midfielder. (L'Equipe)
However Rabiot and his mother, Veronique, who is also his agent, initially resisted the temptation to extend his stay at Parc des Princes because they were unconvinced about the direction Les Parisiens' project was headed at the time and wanted guarantees that he was not going to be moulded into Thiago Motta's heir in the deep-lying midfield role.
The source explained that Rabiot and his mum have been impressed by PSG's actions in recent months, notably the signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, as well as the appointment of Antero Henrique as sporting director in place of former incumbent Olivier Letang and ex-director of football Patrick Kluivert.
However, despite recent reports in France suggesting that a deal until 2021 with an option for an additional year is imminent, the source indicated that it is still a work in progress.

I wonder if his mother would be satisfied with our current depth at defensive midfield...

Klopp would never okay a transfer for an individual making demands like that.

Definitely not in this way, but he can sweet-talk players and parents when he wants – didn't he call and charm Ante Coric last summer? I'm in two minds on Rabiot – huge, huge talent obviously, but also attitude issues that are sometimes even visible on the pitch. If he and his mom want him to be coddled and indulged Klopp is definitely not the right manager for that, but he could make him into a better player and help him fully realize his talent if they are willing to really trust in his methods.

You never know with the way Klopp seems to influence people, but still, someone who already seems to be prioritizing himself over the good of the team, along with an obsessive mummy that keeps telling him he’s the best in the world and to dictate clubs as to what he wants.. not sure it’s the best of idea.
We had Oxlade coming in, saying he wanted to play CM, but we / Klopp know his personality. He would never complain if the team needed him elsewhere. Same for Milner. This guy sounds like a grade a cock.

Didn't catch Southampton v Chelsea but apparently Oriol Romeu had a good game? Hamann and Thommo mentioned his name earlier last year.

As has yours truly: 1, 2, 3. If we're looking for a "pure" holding midfielder, one who is excellent on defense and also a cultured passer, it would be hard to do much better.

Probably the biggest reason was lack of quality up front. Their midfield more than held its own in most games, but they had nobody except Austin who knows how to finish and he was injured for large periods of the season.

I don't think we'd have a chance with Rabiot, though he is class. I think Lemina looks like a realistic and talented option. Especially if they go down, and I suspect they will.
