Now preseason is over and it’s time for the real business to begin. We have a swagger about ourselves now.

Alison

TAA
Gomez
VVD
Robertson

Fabinho
Keita
Wijnaldum

Salah
Firmino
Manè

Referee: Anthony Taylor
Assistants: Gary Beswick, Adam Nunn
Fourth official: Paul Tierney

Agree with that team, hopefully we’ll start the season with 3 points. We’re as ready as we can be, and the butterflies are already going crazy in my stomach.

Cant wait for the new season.

I suspect Milner might be back in for gini, butt otherwise I agree with that. We might have a strrong bench too.

I"d start with Lovern if he's fit

Alisson
Clyne
Klavan
Virg
Robertson

Fabinho
Keita
Milner

Salah
Sturridge
Mane

Wouldnt play anyone who went world cup quarters and came back late.
Bench
Wijnaldum
Shaqiri
Firmino
Lovren
Lallana
Trent
Karius

I reckon it is TAA, Gomez and Gini instead. I will not be surprised if Fabinho is dropped out for the first game as well.

That just shows we’ve started to build an actual squad. We’re so used to seeing a strong XI and dross after that.

I just can't decide between Gini , Millner & Hendo. But I really want the Ox back.

Oh I agree. Just saying what I would go with

Keita has been a little quiet in the last 2 games. Would it make sense to bring him in off the bench on Sunday? Start with Fabinho, Gini and Milner.

GOOD TIMES . ..we"ve got a decent collection of top class players to argue over for the centre of the park and a top class one still injured ... Remember these moments lads.

Fabinho and Gini must start, its between Milner and Keita for the last spot I reckon.

TAA over Clyne. He looked ready.

Gomez over Klavan. Virgil can stay out on his favoured LCB spot.

Yep, that would be my team. Really looking forward to this one.

Surely Shaq is a replacement for the front line?

Against the shit teams when he starts. But otherwise if we are chasing a game, none of the front line are getting subbed off for Shakira, ever. He'll come on for a midfielder and attack from there, like the Ox.

I am really not confident with Gomez starting at CB, I recon he will cost at least one goal, especially playing against someone as physical and cunning as Arnautovic and considering West Ham's crossing ability. I'd rather play a senior CB, even if half-fit.

Fear not, we have a goalkeeper who can actually deal with the crosses now.

Based on the last game I have adjusted my preferred 11 from the last post:

Alisson

Trent – really feel for Clyne who's done everything he possibly could to earn his place back in this pre-season but TAA is just on another planet in terms of attacking quality
Klavan – if fit, otherwise Gomez
VVD
Robertson – but he needs to step up if he doesn't want to lose his spot to Moreno

Fabinho – got to have his presence at DM in this game
Milner – will play with a shiny new bandage oh his head, Rambo-style
Gini – I really liked the adventurous version today, hope to see more of this and more goals

Salah
Firmino – to be subbed after 60
Mane

Subs: Karius, Gomez, Moreno, Keita, Henderson, Shaqiri, Sturridge

I think of Shaqiri and Sturridge as our "2nd unit" like in ice hockey – they seem to have a nice understanding, so the last half an hour will probably see both as well as Keita. Lallana and Clyne to miss out, very unfortunately for them.

Fab and Millner can play at RB

Fab and Millner can play at RB

True, but not sure what's your point? We have a gluttony of options at RB: Trent, Clyne, Gomez, Camacho and yes – if needed Milner and Fabinho as well, but they are more needed elsewhere.

No Moreno!

Did you mean LB? I was tempted to pick Clyne over him, but no point if Gomez and other can cover RB in an emergency, whereas if Robbo has a poor game by any chance or runs out of gas, you'd rather have a specialist replacement.
