Having just returned from a test match between Denmark and Germany at U19 level, in a stadium filled with scouts from around Europe, here's a few future stars to keep an eye on.

Kevin Holzweiler
This kid makes Zola look big. He's only 18 and can still grow I reckon, but he's Spearing sized. Having said that he's looking quite a footballer. Created two goals, one being ruled out for offside however.

Amazing speed, great skills and constantly setting up teammates. Skinned past three or four defenders at will in the first 45. Wonderful little player, that's going to have a great future ahead of him. On the books of Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Timo Werner, Stuttgart
Striker. Fast and clinical. Scored twice with one ruled out. One of those finishers that makes it look ever so easy.

Pierre Emile Højbjerg
Ok, he's beyond our reach already having made his debut for Bayern Münich - their youngest ever but he reminds me of Steven Gerrard really, watch out for this lad.

Strong as an ox, skilled like few, scored a blinder after only a few mins, back turned to goal, chested the ball down, turned a defender and blasted it into the net. Doesn't lose a pass or a tackle or any one-on-one's, not at this level anyways. He's 17 still.

Casper Radza
Goalie and the first time I've seen him in action. Made a few incredible saves and leaped as high as I've seen any goalie leap. Not the biggest in terms of physique but very athletic and very good on the ball too, despite having a rather insane Grobelaar moment too.

Oh, Denmark's boys won 4-1 and this without Anders Christiansen who has just got his unofficial Chelsea debut in the US and Inter's Patrick Olsen.

And of course Viktor Fischer, who was sat a few seats from me as he's with the International team.

I gave him the "sign for Liverpool look". Should work.

Yesil didn't play for Ze Germans which is why they lost of course.

PS Christian Ziege was MAD at times...!!

Oh, Lucas Andersen, the kid we've been scouting loads, now with Ajax.

Worst player for the Danes. Looked slow and lost for confidence.

It's been confirmed that our scouts were present last night as well.

Goals Denmark: Zohore, Pierre Emile x2 and Youssouf Poulsen.
Goals Germany: Timo Werner

Timo Werner.... That sounds like a sausage!!!

Pierre Emile Højbjerg have always admired Zidane but his role models in todays games are English and one is from Merseyside.

»They have got a super attitude, they play for the club and for the fans and they can singlehandedly drive their team forward. I would like to see myself as a leader like Lampard and Gerrard, leading the way when the toilet is burning (that's a Danish expression for when the going gets tough of something like that). I've got a good right foot a good physique, quick feet and is a goal threat, but I have obviously a lot to learn still.

That's as big a come an get me plea as the one Suarez has been making these past days, right?

Just buy him yourself, Gerrard.

Where to find the future stars?

Well, according to the U19 elite round, exotic places like Georgia and Turkey so far.

Georgia drawed with England and then beat Belgium and Ukraine. England only drawed with Belgium sending the EuroAsian into the finals in July.

Turkey steamrolled their group that included Italy and Russia, 3 wins out of 3.

In group 3 after first day it looks like a two team race after Portugal and Denmark hammered Bulgaria and the Czechs respectively, 5-0. They'll clash in the final game of the group.

*Portugal game is not over yet.

Our Joao Texeira has just replaced one of the scorers for Portugal.

NO. NO DANES.

I see that Denmark U19s are winning 5-0 against Bulgaria U19s (2 sent off). Wonder if its because they are really good or opposition are really poor?

Perhaps the best crop of youngsters ever from Denmark's perspective, on par with the golden generation back in the 80s if not better.

Today they rested their two best players in Pierre Emile Højbjerg and Zohore, and still won easily. Bulgaria the weakest opponents though. Czechs and Portugal drawing after first 45 in their encounter, Joao amongst the starters.

Ah the Danish Dynamites. This is a very long read from a few years back so I won't cut-n-paste it here, but it's a nice read at breakfast time:

The forgotten story of ... Danish Dynamite, the Denmark side of the mid-80s
They won nothing, but the ultra-attacking team of Elkjaer, Laudrup and the Olsens were one of the most interesting in football history

Cheers loads mate, great read that.

I was just a wee lad back then, couldn't keep myself awake before the games in the middle of the night because of the time difference and only remember the games in glimpses.

What I do remember however very clearly was when I woke up on my birthday on the 9th of June, all frustrated because I fell asleep during the long nightly wait for Denmark's match, entered the kitchen and saw a great banner created by my father hanging over the table:

DENMARK 6 URUGUAY 1

I thought it was a bad joke really and not until I had seen the re-run I knew we had done it. I got a tennis racket that Summer and it's still out at my fathers today.

*I also quite vividly remember the apathy when Spain just kept on scoring against us in the 1/8 finals, sadly I was all awake for that one....

IIRC, Uruguay back then was basically a roughhouse team (though Francescoli was a good player), so I was glad they got beaten, and beaten good.

Norway leading 3-1 against Germany. Cyprus shocked Netherlands with a 1-0 victory earlier today.

I remember that team. That iconic kit. I loved them, Luadrup was one of my favourite players in the world back then, but the whole team had quality. In 1986 they were my other team.
Then KHL came along and ruined everything Danish for me.
