Deadline day

Arsenal conducting no business today - apparently he is in Rome reffing a charity game. Some gooner mates are freaking out - love it!

Falcao pricey but worth it if he fires them to top 4.

Amusing one from BBC Sport live feed

As a United fan here's my thoughts on the defence. We've gone from Rio to Rojo, it's making me go Blind with worry, I'm trying to Blackett out. But I'm not Shaw I Evra can. We need someone to Phil the gaps, but hopefully every cloud has Da Silva lining, Evans knows how we'll cope, but hoping our worries are not getting larger but are now Small-ing.

@DiMarzio says that the total loan fee and wages cost for Falcao will be 27M€ (£21.3M).

Would be interesting to hear if they also have an option to buy next summer. Anyway, it's a good deal for them but doesn't really address their biggest problems. They'll have loads of attacking quality now though (if it goes through of course) and I think they'll start getting results sooner rather than later.

Bored of this Deadline Day because it's probably got nothing to do with us directly? Well, get used to this feeling, because if there are no shock departures and the players we've bought / developed turn out as we'd hoped they would, then we're very unlikely to be making too many significant moves in the windows ahead.

Look at the age of the players in the "Core" and "Fringe" teams. In a season's time, Toure will be gone, and possibly Johnson as well, and they'll be replaced by Ilori / Wisdom or someone promoted from the reserves. We'll probably buy someone as a long-term replacement for Gerrard, and perhaps look to replace Jones, Skrtel and Enrique. Players returning from loan will replace some players leaving the squad. Other than the Gerrard and probably Skrtel replacements, the rest of the moves aren't really major ones. Maybe one or two here or there to replace underperformers or injured stars, but nothing major, I think.

If things go to plan, Deadline Day could really be dead boring for us in the next few years, which isn't a bad thing, since we'll have a stable yet still young squad. We'll be expanding Anfield at that time as well, so any reduction in transfer expenses shouldn't hurt us. I don't know if this was the plan all along, but it certainly looks like the transfer windows will be rather uneventful for us for quite some time in the years ahead - again, if things go as well as we hoped.

United in for 15-year-old Norway midfielder [hl]Martin Odegaard[/hl]
We've heard a lot about this kid recently and now Simon Jones reports that United are discussing possibility of signing Stromsgodset teenager Martin Odegaard today. The 15-year-old attacking midfielder has already been capped by Norway and is strongly fancied by Liverpool among others.

This kid is AWESOME! You know of him? Anybody?

Weird Southampton news: Saphir Taïder, who arrived on loan at Saint Mary’s from Inter just last month has been sent back to his parent club. “Southampton Football Club can confirm that it has agreed to terminate midfielder Saphir Taïder’s loan spell,” reads a stetaement on the club website. “The midfielder joined Saints for the 2014/15 campaign but, having failed to live up to the high levels of commitment expected of Southampton players, that arrangement has been cut short by the club. Taïder, whose only first-team appearance came in the friendly against Bayer 04 Leverkusen last month, now returns to parent club Inter Milan. Dani Osvaldo’s loan arrangement with the Italian side is unaffected.”

Strange things underfoot here - the link Cloggy posted in that new thread I just had locked brings me here - but it's not showing in the list of forum threads !

Unless it was started by Modo ? The only one on my 'ignore' list ? FFS Modo !!
