Liverpool FC defender Javi Manquillo looking forward to Champions League reunion with former club Real Madrid
Reds defender spent four seasons at Spanish giants' academy as a youngster

It was only minutes after the draw for Champions League Group B had been announced, but Liverpool FC right back Javi Manquillo’s mobile phone was already red-hot.
Texts, Whatsapp messages, Twitter notifications, all concerning one subject.
Liverpool. Real Madrid. Liverpool. Real Madrid. It had to be.
The young Reds full-back has more reason than most to relish a meeting with the current European Champions. Indeed, the 20-year-old says he owes part of his development as a player to them.
“I spent four seasons there, at the ‘Cantera’,” Manquillo explained to the ECHO. “They were the first club who opened doors for me as a player.
“I’m very thankful to them for helping me grow in my career, and it will be nice to play against them now in a Liverpool jersey.”
Born in Madrid, Manquillo actually grew up a fan of Atletico, Real’s cross-city rivals. And when Real opted not to retain the services of his twin brother, Victor, in 2007, it was Atleti who stepped in. Javi, keen to display his family loyalty, followed him to the Vicente Calderon.
“When I first started playing for Real, my friends would joke with me,” he says. “They would say ‘how can you now play for our rivals, how could you do that?’. They were all Atleti fans too, and they would constantly tease me, in good humour, about playing for Real.
“So when the draw was made, they were all contacting me, encouraging me to play well and to beat Real Madrid for them!
“We know it will be tough, but hopefully Liverpool can make my friends dreams come true!”
The twins’ careers have taken off in different directions since that move across Madrid. Victor, a winger/forward, currently plies his trade with the B team of Rayo Vallecano, in Spain’s regionalised Segunda B division.
Manquillo, by contrast, has developed into a stellar prospect. Liverpool’s start to this season has been below-par, but the new-boy has shown enough to suggest he could have a future at Anfield beyond his initial two-season loan agreement.
Still, the prospect of a game against Real could easily be a daunting one for a young defender. Gareth Bale may have been ruled out, but Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t, James Rodriguez hasn’t, Karim Benzema hasn’t. Carlo Ancelotti’s men boast one of the most fearsome attacks in world football.
What they don’t have, though, is the backing of the Kop, and Manquillo says that could be key come Wednesday night.
“Of course it is going to be tough playing against these guys,” he says. “Ronaldo is the best player in the world, but they have other guys too. But Liverpool have good players as well, and one advantage that we have is the fact that we will be playing at home, with our supporters behind us. That is why we are hopeful that we can get three points.
“I’m ready for this game. It will be a beautiful game, a big match against a big club. But myself and the rest of my teammates are ready to handle it, and hopefully we can win all three points as well.”

My only real decision is Manquillo or Johnson? The rest picks it's self in my opinion.

Mingolet, RB, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno. Henderson, Allen, Gerrard, Lallana, Sterling, Balotelli.

Coutinho to come on and try change the game again if needed.

I'd also have no problem if we dropped Balotelli but this could be the type of game that he casually scores a screamer for us.

'Fuck off' Manquillo doesn't have the same ring to it

If the team was going in as rank outsiders but had been playing well recently I wouldn't feel half as bad.

What about... Liverpool, a team that was barely capable of beating the bottom of the league, a team that started with Bobby Zamora upfront, demolished the best team in Spain, perhaps Europe, in one of the finest displays of an underdog in recent history. 5 - 1, who would of believed it!!!

Some very complimentary things said by Accelotti here. Good manager and comes across as a good man. (from espnfc.com)

Liverpool fans warned not to boo Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has warned Liverpool fans that it will not help their team's cause to boo Cristiano Ronaldo when the European champions visit Anfield for their Champions League clash on Wednesday.
Ronaldo, 29, spent six years at Liverpool's arch-rivals Manchester United earlier in his career, meaning the current holder of the Ballon d'Or is set for a barracking from the home fans when he faces them in their Group B encounter.
However, Ancelotti does not believe that his star forward's return to the home of his old foe -- a ground where he has never scored in five previous appearances -- will affect him.
When asked about it, Ancelotti told The Sun: "No, ha, ha, he won't be more motivated because it's Liverpool.
"Cristiano is always super-motivated. But if the atmosphere is hostile it motivates him more."

The former AC Milan and Chelsea boss was a Roma player when the Italian side faced Liverpool in the 1984 European Cup final, although he missed the match through injury. Despite the Reds winning that match to claim their fourth European crown, Ancelotti revealed that the atmosphere created by the club's fans means he has had a soft spot for the Merseyside club ever since.
"I followed Liverpool from 1984 when I faced them with Roma in the European Cup final and we lost on penalties," he said. "It's always been a club that make me emotional.
"'You'll Never Walk Alone' is incredible. No one sings it the way Liverpool fans do."

Ancelotti was also in charge of AC Milan for the 2005 final in Istanbul, which his side led 3-0 at half-time but let that lead slip and eventually lost in a penalty shootout.
"I remember how they sang it at the end of the first half in Istanbul," he added. "Incredible. One of the memories which had the biggest impact in my career.
"When we play I will go out early at Anfield because I want to hear fans sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone.' It gives me so much emotion. I go on the internet and I listen to it and I make friends watch it. It's really unique. Really.
"I was surprised they were singing at half-time. For an Italian it was a shock. But they are real fans. In Italy if you're losing 3-0... it's not that they jeer you -- they throw stones at you.
"I don't think it was fundamental for the Liverpool comeback but it helps."

I'd forgotten that he was a Roma player when we won in 84 on their home ground. He's a class act, right enough.

On a side note, my favourite ever football banner was unfurled by some Reds at the end of the game in Istanbul. It said: "Hey Ancelotti - we've got the stereo!" :D

It's a shame, I'd have been all over this game if it was April last season, in fact I'd be confident of us winning in style, however now I'd be happy with us clinging on for a draw, how depressing.

Call me a NOOB, but Ancelotti's class as well as managerial ability always makes me see him as a first class manager, and makes Mouriniho look like a child. Maureen doesn't have his class - nor Del Bosque's

Has anyone heard anything about Moreno? I've seen some training pics from Anfield tonight but I cant see him in any of them. I hope he's fit. If not we should play Johnson at LB.

We'll win this game (if we do) from full-back. I've watched Madrid a few times this season, and they don't have anyone forward of midfield who plays or stays on either flank. I don't buy into this midfield-battle stuff because it'll just be too quick and too congested in there for either side to gain any real stranglehold.

This game will be won on the outside. Ronaldo will likely start left wing, but he doesn't stay there and he does not run back. France scored a goal inside 3 mins against Portugal last week through their right-back just wandering down the pitch without Ronaldo bothering to follow him, and setting up the 1st.

Roanldo's too proud to run back, Benzema doesn't bother, and Kroos, James, etc rarely go near a touchline.

Fuck this Raheem up front business. Stick him wide left, and have him and Moreno occupy the space down the flank, and run riot from there. We'll create zero out of central spots, this game's getting won from wide.

Moreno man of the match too.

I feel a lot more confident now after reading that.

Thank you, football fairy.

James Pearce clarifies:
James: Is there something going on with Moreno? There are certain rumours doing the rounds and Brad Smith has been recalled from his loan. I saw Moreno in the squad on Sunday so he seems to be fit. As far as you know will he start tomorrow?
I've seen the rumours about Moreno having a knock/off field issues but not aware there is any truth to them. Fitness wise, he was doing shuttle runs up and down Loftus Road for half an hour after Sunday's game and looked fit. Rodgers said he was simply rested ahead of Wednesday so yes I'd expect him to start.
Not sure why Smith has been recalled. I will ask the manager later.

Moreno also just gave an interview to the Echo about how much he is looking forward to the game.

Lots more team news here.

Just in case you missed it, Spanish media: Brendan would like to work in Spain one day. We clear? Great!

Probably Atlantic Chip shop in Brooklyn. Or maybe Legends or Nevada Smiths if they aren't showing our game.

Have to admit I got a bit nostalgic thinking about Torres running rampant against these lot.

Pointing at his name on the back his shirt, cheeky kunt.

As long as I live, I will never understand how Torres went downhill so quickly. 09 he was one of the worlds finest. 2011 he was a punch line. Has to be the knee problem.
