West Indies Vs England - Test Series

My opinion of Cook went down a notch recently when he claimed that it had been a mistake to drop him from the one-day side. His career as captain of the ODI team was one of unmitigated failure. Long before the selectors decided to do anything about it, he had demonstrated that he was totally unsuited to it. There's a difference between confidence and arrogance.

Wouldn't disagree in principle, but not all arrogance is the same. Some sportsmen mean it, but with some - and my bet is Cook's in this latter category - it's a front to mask its opposite. I think he knows perfectly well that he's not performed to the required standard and is, mistakenly but understandably, just trying to defend himself.

No no no to Joe Root as captain please - he's doing very nicely as it is thank you, lets not muck him about by making him open or captain.

As for Brearley, rubbish test batsman, scratching around for runs most of the time - never scored a test century, but a great leader.Iirc he used to field quite a lot at mid off when Willis was bowling with just the odd word to gee him up.

You're right about Botham, he had the knack of taking wickets with utter filth.

Right fellas - Glad I made the decision to stick with the cricket seeing as though the football sounded shite. What a session from England! If you haven't seen it try and catch the highlights. An inspired Jimmy had a hand in all six wickets in the morning session. Including a quite stunning direct hit run out. 2 sessions left and all to play for. Cricket at it's best. :)

Typical, busy at work today!

I'm going to watch as much as I can of days 2-4.. My gf's uncle is out there with tickets for those 3 days too. One day he's in what they advertise as the 'party stand' and its $70 for a ticket, breakfast, lunch and unlimited beers!!

Tickets have just become available for the New Zealand tests as well. I'm going to snaffle me a Lords one and then that will complete the set. I'd have seen every team Vs England. Anyone fancy coming along? @Brizzle or anyone else?

EDIT: Scrap that plan. Test starts on the 21st and I'll be lording it in Cuba then :(

Less than a premier league ticket to sit in the sun all day with food including getting pissed watching the cricket - that is my idea of paradise! Lucky b*****d !!
looks like a cracking atmosphere out there too

It does! One of my life ambitions is to get out there for a Windies tour. Utterly brilliant place to be for sure. The Port-Of Spain test has the swimming pool by the side if I remember rightly. What a way to spend the day! :)

Yup - mine too! Grenada looked very very nice. Once of lifes most satisfying pleasures - a nice afternoon watching the cricket getting hammered !

Whoops! Ali was batting along nicely as well. Cook looks a little sheepish!

The trouble with getting hammered at the cricket is that you get a hangover around tea-time.

He must have got out just when you pressed the button after typing that! :D
Oooops. Jinxy to the max.

There's more life in the pitch than originally thought though so it's not all doom and gloom. I'd say the windies would be the happier though. Gutted for Trott - Looks like that's it for him.

Inspired spell from Jimmy.. Unlucky for Broady who found the edge three times, one shelled by Cook and two just missing slips.

Yeah I enjoyed that session. Jimmy's in swinger to Samuels was a thing of utter beauty! Made Samuels look like a right plank! :D

It's not dead JJ - It's crumbling badly apparently. Plus the breeze is helping Jimmy.

A few balls are bouncing low too.

The wickets have mostly come from swing though JJ so pitch almost irrelevant when Jimmy is swinging it like he is!

Yup. Loads of inconsistant bounce plus decent swing. Must be a nightmare for the batsmen all things considered. Ali spinning out of the rough (which is getting worse by the over) I can only see this going one way. I have tons of respect for Chanderpaul though so not really counting my chickens yet.

Wow.. this game is mental. We need a big big day from Ballance and for one of these others to get somewhere 40-50 to give us a chance. I'm not confident we'll bowl them out for sub 200 again but this pitch is making for a very interesting game!
