Hillsborough: Searching For The Truth

90% of the contents of the documentary we already knew, but it is presented in a fresh way - in my opinion closer to the supporters' experiences than many previous documentaries. And there is 10% or so of new material, including film from the BBC archives that had previously been held back, which shows how poorly the emergency services reacted and disproves the original coroner's deadline, beyond which it was assumed that no lives could be saved.

Apropos of nothing in particular, I was a classmate of Dr. John Ashton, the public health specialist who was present at Hillsborough and appears in the documentary. Ashton was critical of the emergency services and says that Lord Justice Taylor subsequently cast doubt on his medical credentials, as his specialism was public health and he was therefore not a "proper doctor."

Having watched the program I thought it added little to the knowledge of Liverpool supporters in particular or football fans in general.

Perhaps the 'revelation' that Lord Justice Taylor was sometimes irritated or dismissive of some evidence givers or that Norman Bettison saw the events as a career opportunity was new to me.

I wonder if the later generations, born around or after those events see it as a significant story with lessons to learn for the future?

Talking recently I heard the comment "yeah bad that, good job we have seats now so it can't happen again'. I don't think they're remotely interested in justice for the families or making authority figures accountable and just think everything's fixed and we should move on.

I've just had a call from the legal team for the families at the new inquests asking to come and interview me about what happened on the day. Even though I told him I know nothing from arriving at the ground until I was lay in a hospital bed with Ian St John sitting on the end of it talking to my old man he still wants to talk to me. Quite surreal.

Somewhere along the line I want the FA put in the feckin dock for this. They could have avoided the whole damn thing if they'd agreed to Peter Robinson's request to move the game to a different ground.

My biggest anger immediately after was directed towards the FA. I used to daydream about punching Kelly to a pulp.
The fact that one of the FA boardmember's sons owned one of the company that made millions out of converting grounds into all-seaters was also another rage-inducing moment.

I think it unlikely that anybody of any significance in Whitehall was responsible for tampering with the Wikipedia entry. The Civil Service is full of Chelsea-supporting shiny-arsed clerks.

Indeed, and you can just see a disdain for what some of them see as Scouse riffraff being all the rage in the wine bars they infest.

Jury have reached a verdict. It will be announced tomorrow.

[article]Jurors had already reached unanimous conclusions for 13 of the questions. The remaining question - for which they were given a majority direction- asked whether the 96 were unlawfully killed.

The forewoman said at least seven of the nine jurors had reached agreement on the unlawful killing question in a 14-section questionnaire.

Coroner says jury can have majority, 8-1 or 7-2, on whether the 96 were unlawfully killed.

The conclusions will be formally returned at 11:00 BST on Tuesday.[/article]
