Agger on the move

Brondby are supplying him with a surrogate body so that he can have a whole new set of tattoos. That's what clinched it.

One of my favourite players in the past 10 years. He really has loved and got the club in the main part. I would like to think he has chosen to go to Brondby rather than play for any other big clubs in europe and for me thats top banana.

I will miss him muchly, a great character, a thoughtful guy and on his day a top top defender. But for injuries he really could have been an absolute legend for us. In my eyes hes still a great and i wish him all the best in Brondby. I hope they get in the champions league soon, play Milan and he smashes Torres again.

Good luck Daniel. More than most YNWA.

Cant hurt one more time can it?

I used to love that him and Lucas would always show up early doors to any on-field beef.

Yeah he was like the big fucking rock hard Danish brother. First in no matter where on the pitch it kicked off.

Agger is the Whitney Houston of our squad in recent years. Didn't he almost have it all?

Seriously, on paper and on his day Agger looked like he had every attribute an absolutely top class CB should have. And yes I completely agree about him 'getting' the club and all that but for whatever reason...perhaps not least his occasional attitude...he never quite scaled the heights he should have done.

All of that said, I wish him all the very best.

This is up there with the worst deals we have ever done, fucking hell.

I'll always have tremendous respect for Agger as he stuck by the club through the dark days when most of our big names were jumping ship, he clearly loved being a Liverpool player and he deserves the respect of any Liverpool fan. If hes decided to go 'home' rather than somewhere else so be it, top fella

An aspect of this I've not seen mentioned, is that it proves a certain ruthlessness about the club.

In times gone by if a player fitted, got the club, & the fans liked him, we'd have kept him until he retired.

As with Carra, it can hurt a bit, but it's best for the club. We did in generations past with no feeling, & Utd did it under Ferguson successfully too. He made exceptions, but they usually had something left to give (giggs, Scholes for example), when they didn't, he'd cut them loose with little, if any, hesitation or brow beating.

I don't understand why people are feeling sorry for him for a lack of a better term. We always lambast modern day footballers for following their wallets and having no loyalty, now a player who's played for two clubs in his entire career is going back to his boyhood club after spending 8 and a half years here, yet we're still having a go at him, seems a bit ridiculous if you ask me. I'm happy for him, and have another little bit more respect for him for wanting only the move back home.

Agreed with this, I know I've poked fun at the transfer, but if he's opted to go back to his boyhood club, then fair play to him.

Aaawww - almost as good as Luis'

YNWA Daniel Agger. Thank you.

It is sad his career was like this for us. Stop start with injuries initially, and then never really kicking on to be a fantastic defender. I liked him

He's going back home to Denmark with his family. Doesn't care about the money. Makes sense and makes me respect him even more.

Definitely a good attitude, and considering its long been said that he doesn't care for football outside of work, he may as well go back home

Its somewhat bittersweet, a bad deal for the club by any yardstick but proves the sort of guy Agger is and the love he has for the club. I dont understand people pining for the likes of Alonso and Mascherano, even Suarez who couldnt wait to get out the door. I'll always hold Agger in higher esteem as a red than any of them.

It has to be said, £6m/year in wages is one hell of a pay packet. I assume we are paying up a bit of his current contract too and that Bronby are signing for at least three years. So he's good for an additional £20m* more than he has now.

I won't be feeling too sorry for him.

*Before tax? Tax in Denmark is a whopping 57% for top earners and 25% VAT.

So he's got a massive pay off for us to get him out of the door, and he's off to Brondby. I'd expect him to be looking for a move to another big club next summer, I suspect this move is just to get him games and a pay off.
Good luck Daniel.

"This has been our home and somewhere we have been very happy and settled. However, more recently I have started to feel the effects of playing regularly in a league that is as physically demanding as the Premier League is, and I would not want to stay if I did not think that I was able to meet that challenge week in, week out.
"The club itself is very special and I shall remain a supporter for the rest of my life. I regard every game I played at Anfield as a privilege"

he only averaged 27 games a season for us .

I don't think you pay VAT on your salary - even in Denmark ;)

Yeah I was just going to comment on exactly that, I think the line about 'feelings the effects of playing regularly in a league that is as physically demanding as the PL' .... is very telling.

Gave his best over the years, been loyal in the dark years, acknowledged that he is on the downhill physically. Top bloke and hope he does well winning trophies back in Denmark. YNWA!
