Arsenal post match thoughts...

I didn't see the match, but I get the impression, we played well and dominated.

But we have no goal scoring threats, and are poor at the back?

They are big things but totally fixable. Nice to also see us get some hard earned luck. Feels like things are getting better, and it's not as much of a lost cause.

Where was the luck? Because they should have had a player sent off and scored with their only two shots on target.

I don't understand the point in playing Jones.

Ming has been bad this season but at least he is decent in one of the three areas of goal keeping. He is generally a quality shot stopper.

He doesn't command his area well and his distribution is woeful but at least he gives us a chance to not concede.

Jones is essentially the equivalent of sticking a fucking scarecrow between the posts.

He can't stop anyone from scoring. His positioning is poor, he guesses which way to dive, and he has slow reaction time. If that's not enough he doesn't command the six yard box any better and his distribution is just as bad as Ming's.

I've rarely criticized Rodgers but this goalkeeping mess is beyond pathetic. He hand picked Ming as HIS keeper and now he benches him in favor of a guy who is currently the worst keeper in the league.

It was a desperate move, but personally I felt it was a desperate time. As you say, the one thing Mingolet was still okay at was shot stopping, but his nervy distribution, combined with a witless back four that seemed to be saying to the opposition, 'Come on, have a shot at him, he's a top shot stopper, he is, go on, have a shot...', had made even that quality compromised. Even good shot stoppers let in shots if you have enough shots against them, and Mingolet was even losing confidence in that aspect of his game. Eventually I think Rodgers had to remove him from the team to calm everyone else down.

Jones and mingolet are polar opposites. Jones can distribute, looks calm on the ball and is out of his area quickly but hes not a good shot stopper. All mingolet can do it stop shots. Fuck a new keeper just get that machine from the fly

Even Freidel would be an improvement to see us through to the end of the season. He really would. Getting Cech or another very experienced keeper ought to be the least of our problems.

This has to be the only explanation. The defense had completely lost whatever confidence they had left in him.

He's got into this habit recently of not only trying to hit one of his trademark diagonal balls, but also trying to drop it just over the head of an opponent standing nearby. And it keeps falling short. Or it goes too long. I'd hate to be the player he aims for. They must know it's a horrible ball that, if they don't get it, they'll get the Gerrard scowl. But it's sort of impressive he's still capable of innovation: that corner that bent straight out of play was astounding.

Indeed. Also, Gerrard pings these passes so hard and high that there is little benefit to the team in terms of catching the opposition by surprise because they're so difficult to control if the recipient can actually reach the ball.

He gave the foul away for their first goal and he gave the ball away for their second.

Also, he's a massive cunt and I hope he dies in a fire.

Seriously, What!?

Seriously what? It's pretty obvious, what we lose in shot stopping we gain in composure, slightly better distribution and alertness in coming off his line. He's not good enough but he does give us a bit more stability at the back.

The chance earlier in the game when their player went clean through and he was straight out to get there first and clear it, Mignolet would have hesitated and fucked it up. That said, on the other hand he might have saved one of the two goals.

Like I said, both aren't good enough but you can see the difference in what Jones gives us, he's alot more confident in coming out for the ball, aerially and on the deck.

Cos he called you out on a thread? He's a pain in the arse at times but you can't ban him cos you're a mood and you disagree him. Otherwise, give me a mods job and I'll have a clearout of the cunts I don't agree with. Then I can talk to myself!

If he didn't ram the same pre-determined opinion down everyone's throats in *every* fucking thread, people wouldn't get their backs up. He knows he's fucking people off because enough people have told him, either fiercely (Leo), or politely (everyone else). Leo was being a dick though and was warned about it.

Yes. And when he goes to play a one-two on the edge of the area, he tends to blast it at his teammate's shins, with the subsequent rebound of course being described by commentators as the player 'letting his captain down'. Poor sods.

Well despite the obvious shotstopping failures I think he makes the defence look far more comfortable. At least he is prepared to come off his line and even out of his area if necessary. Was impressed with his passing and kicking - Pepe like, which really takes the pressure off the defence.
Yeah, I pretty much agree with that.

His shot stopping is terrible but pretty much every other aspect of his game is an improvement on what Ming was showing.

I don't think Ming's career is finished. I'll be interested to see what he's like when he gets another run. Will the defense look less comfortable?

Re Gerrard, I said to a mate during the game that Lucas was far outstripping Gerrard in making incisive forward passes.

Given he was also making more telling tackles/interceptions, Lucas is entitled to be mighty pissed off in coming games if he's dropped and our captain starts again.

Yes.

I can't tell you why now but it will doubtless appear in a biography or witness statement in the next few years.

Oh right, okay. Thought you'd have your reasons, but it just threw me.

I still like him.
