So Lallana and Coutinho come back injured and I once again go into a frothing rage about the pointlessness of international football, especially in the middle of the season. And especially when it's some ridiculous friendly to help pay for that awful bowl 'The new Wembley'.

So what do you guys think? Football for me starts and ends with Liverpool, I can't stand international football at all. FIFA and UEFA are bloated corrupt bullshitters, the qualifying and tournaments are bullshit too. It all feels so utterly pointless these days. 'Here watch some Man City and Chelsea players playing some Man United and Arsenal ones. Like you do every week. Plus a few shite players who only get a game because they're Switzerland's only left back.' At least a few years ago you at least got to see almost mythical players who you only ever saw in the European Cup or at World Cups/Euros.

The last time I genuinely watched an international tournament with any interest at all was the WC in 98. And that was mainly due to the fact I was backpacking around SE Asia at the time and was free to drink myself into oblivion until 4am without consequences (well there were a few, but here's not the place to regale with them).
 
If the players want to play for their country, that's their choice. I know I would if I was good enough to play for my country at any given sport.

From the view of a (well, this) Liverpool fan's persepctive, international football is just annoying, though.
 
Thankfully there arent any international games until March now.

I'm okay with the EC and WC quals and tournaments. Its the pointless friendlies were you play 90 minutes that gets on my tits.

This for me as well.

The Int. friendlies should mainly consist of fringe players, trying to make it to the A-team. That way the best players, from the best clubs, would not have to be bothered with those potential banana-skins.

International football for me has brought me some of my greatest (and most frustrating) memories, but I can understand why the interest for a national team if you live in a large country could be lesser - though the Germans seems to enjoy their national team as much as they do their clubs so maybe it's a cultural thing?

Maybe cultural. Plenty of Spaniards don't give a monkey's for their national team. Particularly Madrid and Barcelona supporters (though, maybe for differing reasons).

International football is too invasive of domestic football and it needs to be restricted. Qualification for major tournaments should be scrapped with the majority qualifying automatically and reducing the amount of games for players.
 
I don't mind watching tournaments as it just means there is more footy on tv. Breaking up during mid seasons rile me up though.

In Brizzle's World, the European Champs would have more teams, a more savage knockout system and the top 8 each tournament qualify for the World Cup. No friendlies needed mid seasons... 2 tournaments, one feeds into the next world cup. Done.

England for me has always been a favorite to follow due to the obvious influx of Liverpool-players.

I'm still not that arsed about England, but you're right about them being more likeable, now that the likes of Ashley Cole, Ferdinand, Beckham, Neville and especially John Terry are no longer playing.

For a long time it was cunt soup.

My impression is that most of the players do want to play international football, even if only to enhance their earning power. That being the case, I want them to do well and of course to stay fit as far as poss. Otherwise I couldn't really give a stuff about it either.

Hate the in-season breaks. This last one was intolerable. Was a bank holiday weekend, the kid was away, wife was studying, I had fuck all to do... and no Premier League, Bundesliga, etc.

But I had the opportunity to watch Greece play the Faroe Islands. Like fuck I'm doing that. So I cleaned the damn house instead. Absolute garbage.
