Barrett: latest on Rodgers and transfers

Don't tell me tell Rodgers! He had ample opportunity to change our style of play this season to accommodate the strikers we had available and he didn't bother his arse so i don't see why he's going to change anytime soon.
Which appears to be exactly what the owners are doing!

The article we are discussing mentions nothing about the owners or anybody else suggesting we play a different style of football. In my opinion purchasing Benteke would be problematic if we stick to our current way of playing.

What is our current way of playing? First season - when we finally got going - we resembled Rodgers' Swansea, slow, possession football. Second season we were more counter-attacking, similar to Dortmund with a shit defence. This season we've been gash. I don't really know what Rodgers is aiming for.

As for Benteke, I'm not interested in his signing, but would he really be that incompatible with our system? He's pretty quick isn't he? And going purely on a post previous, likes to run on to the ball, which lots of our players do, and he seems pretty good and sniffing out and finishing a lose ball in the box, something we've always been poor at. So I think saying he's not suited for our system is a straw man, the actual issue here is he's just not good enough for a team wanting to break the top four and go even further.

What's so wrong or unusual about that? I've come around to Rodgers just not fitting into our current set-up and therefore if there is no change upstairs or backstairs then yes, he has to go. But why not give him the full rein the vast majority of the most successful managers have and then judge him based on how he handles it?

Because he's already shown himself to be a total fucking disaster at it.

So change the way we play.

Pretty much, I already gave all my reasons in the other thread as to why I've lost faith in him & any change of structure upstairs won't change any of that.

All I can see it doing is wasting more money, & meaning we miss out on two incredibly good managers who actually fit into the structure fsg originally envisaged & that actually works for most of the football world (a DoF in place etc).

If the estimates about compensation are even remotely correct then that's a clever move.

We'd have to pay about that anyway & this stops us getting him. They may be cunts but theyre much more savvy than we are.
Why would Ings say yes to lower wages?

I'd wait a week if I was him.

Then he can just see what the offers are and choose the highest.

Spurs in for Ings
United for Benteke
Liverpool for Ancelotti
Day off...
Well this days started alright so far.

I thought we'd end up paying 11m for him anyway through compensation or some such bollocks, is that not right?

Not sure anyone really knows for sure, but £6-7 million was the figure bandied about. If this Spurs bid is accurate (and the source is Sky, so probably not) then they're not confident he'd choose them over us so are trying to gazump things.
