I cant believe people are excited about Benteke....

Is there no possibility if getting someone like Firmino?

We got Suarez when we were in an even worse situation..

This is the problem. You don't like the prospect of Benteke so you just toss in the name of some random Brazilian who incidentally has a far inferior goals per game record by comparison.

Am i alone in thinking that ings is pretty bang average? Spurs can have him. I'll take benteke but in a coherent to plan and structure with no Rogers in charge.

And is an attacking midfielder

He has played in midfield so comparing goals is not like apples and oranges....if Benteke is considered a better footballer than Firmino, im not sure what to think.

In fairness to Lefty, Firmino's name has been touted more than once on here as a possible solution to our striking problems. But yeah, he's a MF.

I don't know; after all he scored 11 goals in a struggling team.

Our transfer committee is an absolute waste of space. Seemingly the criteria is that they have played well against us or are on the cheap. I wonder how many algorithms they've ploughed through to come up with Benteke, Ings and Milner.

Bennett would be an upgrade on what we have currently. However, he's not going to be a revelation or have the likes of Barca and Madrid courting him at any point.

I didn't say Benteke was a better footballer I said he was a better goal scorer. Because he is.

I think you're probably barking up the wrong tree blaming these targets on the committee.

If FSG stick with Rodgers when Ancelloti and Klopp are available then major questions have to be asked about FSG's ambitions on the footballing side of things. I don't think they're arsed to tell you the truth. Or they're fucking thick.

Couldn't agree more

What I don't get is that it would only take the merest interest to switch the manager. That's just basic financial self-interest.

I agree on Ings. On the offensive set up I would try to gra a move around striker like Tevez and spent rest of cash on strengthen midfield.... I love a strong Mascher-Alonso midfield... not to keen on the Allen- Lucas combination....

United need a new striker, so do City and Arsenal. Not one of those three would think fucking twice about Christian Benteke.

Throw Chelsea into that mix too.

Why are we so willing to spend big money on players that none of our rivals are even remotely interested in?
Nail on head.

Unless you were suggesting Sterling & Coutinho should be playing at wingback instead, then yes, you kind of we're saying that.

Sterling could have played a lot less this season imho.
We've also had Hendo, Gerrard and Lallana playing in those postions.

Markovic hasnt been treated as he should have, thats my point. He has been dropped, subbed or played out of position. So how Rodgers can feel that he isnt suited for the PL is beyond me. Seeing as he hasnt played to much in a postion were he is comfortable.

"Manchester United are monitoring Christian Benteke’s situation as they look to rival Liverpool in a £30million transfer for the Aston Villa star.
Benteke, who scored 12 goals in the final 12 Premier League games, has had a resurgence in form since Tim Sherwood took over at Villa Park and guided them to league safety."
Not really

We should never have signed Markovic *and* Lallana, first of all. Even if you could make a case that Lallana was somehow a priority last season, he certainly wasn't if Markovic was a major target. To have Markovic in basically as backup for Coutinho would've been much better and would've given him a fair chance of adapting.

Markovic is probably THE big challenge for the transfer committee to justify, because there was nothing rash about his signing. He was a first choice, he had been watched for several years, club officials were courting him for more than a year, and everyone wanted him. So the use/misuse of him this season is a real issue: there can't be any protests from Rodgers about not knowing his strengths and weaknesses - there was a dossier dedicated to the player that was almost as big as Brendan's own manifesto - and yet he gave every impression that he was stuck with a player he neither wanted nor understood.

I like Markovic - but he hasn't justified the hype.

I agree though - signing both Lallana & Markovic seemed a bit "excessive".

That's why above all else, we should have a defined system of play so that we can be buying players that fit into it rather than hoovering up players with potential then not having a clue how or where to integrate them into the side.

We all detest Mourinho but that is precisely where his management pays dividends - he is brilliant at spotting weaknesses in his side and then improving the team by slotting in the right players to fill the gaps. He moved out Mata who was player of the year and re-signed Matic and they were miles better as a result.

Rodgers has made a lot of good players look terrible by constantly changing systems and experimenting with players in unaccustomed positions.

Spot on - although no amount of accommodation will make Markovic a decent buy I fear
