8M bid rejected according to Barrett - we've obviously fucked them off with the flirty texts to Bony. Deserves his own thread, and his own youtube.

Check out this motherfuckin ball playa.

Yeah not quite sure what I'm supposed to be getting excited about there.

I watched 2mins and after a few long balls and runs getting blocked off by the Arsenal defence I had to call it quits.

He may be a solid Finnan type (is that what he is?) but that ain't no baller.

He's a very talented fullback with a lot of the qualities we're looking for.
Would be a decent signing with potential.
Rather him than Moreno imho

I love Davies, I don't know why he wasn't our first choice option for left back from the off, he'd be perfect for us.

Admittedly it's not the best video, he is similar in some ways to Finnan, but he's a bit more direct and alot quicker, probably technically a bit better too, but the boy can defend.

That's the problem with that video .... 6+mins and it doesn't show one tackle, no defensive headers, no chasing a forward down the touchline, you have to wonder how the hell Arsenal won that match !

Looked good to me, willing runner, decent pace, always looking for the ball and making the pass to him available, seemed quite an incisive passer too. I share Froggies concern that we didn't see too much of the defensive side of his game there though.

There's 2 schools of thought for me with fullbacks. On the one hand, I remember reading an article from Jonathan Wilson a couple of years ago when he said the full back position will become perhaps the most important in the game, because the full back is the only position in the modern game that actually has space in front of them to work with. He was implying that more should be spent on buying the best possible full backs for your side, even if it meant over spending.

The other side of the coin is that the full back doesnt need to be a world beater or world class or anything like that. If they are simply solid in defense and can offer good support going forward, that's all you need from the full back.

Essentially, the question is, do you pay a reasonable fee for a Steve Finnan type so that you can invest heavier in the forward or centre back positions, or break the bank for a Roberto Carlos, Zambrotta type.

I think it largely depends on how Rodgers wants to set the team up. If it's anything like a diamond then we could do with buying the best fullbacks we can afford.

Last season was very much a case of the attackers floating about and the fullbacks bombing forward to provide width. Now that Suarez is gone we will have to see if guys like Sterling and Markovic are pushed out wide more, which will lessen the reliance on fullbacks in attack or whether it'll be more of the same. I can't help but think it'll be more of the same, particularly when our no.1 target seemed to be Moreno.

In terms of over spending on a FB, Alves at 30M seemed very expensive but you have to say he's been worth every penny to Barca. Would be great to get someone like that.

Given how shit our defence was last season, I'd take a Finnan at each fullback slot. It's not like we had much contribution from either slot in our attacks last season anyway. I'd rather we trimmed our 50 goals conceded tally to 35 or something around there, than to have full backs bombing forward contributing 3 goals and 4 assists each but then contributing to us leaking another 50 at the back.

When we've finally tightened our defence again, we can then look at loosening the strings a little when needed in some games.

Heh, pretty much. He may be a decent player, but that was a pretty mediocre video.

This is the sexy cunt we should be signing:

Call me old fashioned but given the state of our defence, getting in a full back that can defend and is built for this league, I'd take that now.

Davies has got loads of potential. Rather 10 mill for him, then 20 for Moreno or 25 for Sandro.

This is the thing with Luke Shaw. Almost everyone thinks £30m now is ludicrous.

I bet in 5 years almost nobody does.

The thing is though its the not the fee that many on here seem to question about moreno, its the fact he doesn't actually look any good. The fact he stank out the Europa cup final didn't help his case either.

This Is Anfield ‏@thisisanfield 4m The Telegraph say Spurs have agreed a £10m fee for Ben Davies.
