Benteke - BOOOOOO the puns

I was kind of hoping all those specialists he was sent to in America might have sorted that problem.

Like they did for Michael Owen and Jamie Redknapp you mean?

The 'American specialists' myth is one of the worlds great frauds.

[article=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3143955/Aston-Villa-refuse-budge-32-5m-price-Christian-Benteke-former-club-Genk-cut-fee.html#ixzz3eW5Nq1PL Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook]Aston Villa are refusing to budge on their asking price for Christian Benteke partly because a percentage of any transfer fee must be sent to his former club Genk.

The Belgian side are due 15 per cent on any profit Villa make above the £7million price they paid for the striker in 2012.

Genk could collect around £3.8m should a club trigger Benteke’s £32.5m release clause.

Liverpool maintain a strong interest but have so far insisted they will not pay that price for the player who scored 49 goals in 101 games for Villa. They are likely to offer Rickie Lambert or Fabio Borini as part-exchange options plus cash.

But Villa would look to extract the full amount of money to offset the portion allocated to Genk, and in order to reinvest in the playing squad. [/article]

[article=http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-chasing-aston-villas-christian-9552267#rlabs=2]Tottenham Hotspur are plotting to use Emmanuel Adebayor as a makeweight in their efforts to sign Aston Villa's Christian Benteke, according to a report by our sister title the Daily Mirror.

Adebayor could be reunited with Tim Sherwood as Spurs seek to use him in their battle for the signature of the Belgian striker, who is also interesting Liverpool.

But like Liverpool, Tottenham believe Villa's £32.5m buyout clause for Benteke is too high.

Spurs hope Sherwood's relationship with Adebayor from their time together at White Hart Lane will work in their favour.

Sherwood has already proved he knows what makes Adebayor tick.

After being brought in from the cold by Sherwood in 2013/14, the Ivorian scored 14 goals in just 25 games for Spurs.

One potential stumbling block could be Adebayor's huge £100,000-a-week contract, which comfortably tops Villa's current highest earners.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy may have to subsidise Adebayor's wages to get him off the books, as he was prepared to do in January to enable the Togo striker to join any interested club other than rivals West Ham.

Benteke, 24, has two years left on his contract and has no intention of signing a new deal to extend his stay at Villa Park.

Liverpool also have players who could be makeweights such as Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini.[/article]

He'll probably go there, tear it up and we'll get some fucking dud from abroad. And then everyone will be banging on about how we should have got him.
But that would more likely be down to his being a better fit for Spurs than for Liverpool bearing in mind the players each club has

Maybe, but we could be a bit more diplomatic about it, we have Coutinho, Firmino, Origi and Ibe who all have reasonable pace, if you get that around him and playing off him, it can work. He scores ALOT of goals in the box, that's exactly what we didn't have last year, we still had players with pace but maybe missed a bit of balance (and goals, obv).

Like I say, I'd rather see us go for someone who's quick over the first 10 yards and can put chances away, but to do that you're relying alot on counterattacking rather than patient build up. The latter is supposed to be Rodgers forte, yet we looked better as a quick attacking team that were more direct and could also revert to hitting teams on the break, but that came with it's own costs as we had a deep ball playing midfielder who had zero defensive nous and were overstocked with attackers who would leave us exposed. I guess it's about what we need in the longterm to move on as a side, do we employ a player who can be the spearhead of a patient, controlled approach or do we continue to fill the team with pace and hope that we just outscore all opponents with quick attacking play? It seemed that despite us losing Suarez and Sturridge, teams had also got wise to stemming the flow early in games and taking the sting out of us, so in that sense, reverting to the approach of the season before last, by trying to replicate the same players might be putting all our eggs in one basket.

I've decided I want him now, because the villa fans are going batshit mental about us not offering the 32.5mill straight up. This has massively upset them and we're getting called all the derogatory names under the sun now. So if we do sign him, for less than the 32.5 (they really don't want borini or lambert) then their heads are going to explode.
C'mon Ayre, get him signed up.

I don't get all of the hate. He's technically a lot better than a lot of you are giving him credit for.

He's not the quickest( he's no slouch though) but as Mark points out, with nippy players playing around him that shouldn't be the end of the world.

Another Andy Carroll; You work hard to convince yourself, this time it'll be different, this time, it'll be a Beardsley or Aldo style premiership proven success. But it won't. We have to do better. We need someone who'll light up the place, a definite goal scorer, not another F-ing plodder who'll have a few good days.

[article=http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-transfer-news-325m-christian-benteke-set-to-snub-spurs-even-if-deal-is-agreed-10355153.html]Christian Benteke is not keen on a move to Tottenham even if they agree a transfer with Aston Villa.

Benteke has been linked with a summer switch to White Hart Lane which would see Emmanuel Adebayor go the other way.

But Standard Sport understands the Belgium striker remains unhappy with the way Spurs acted when they tried to buy him two years ago and his preference is a move to Liverpool.

Benteke handed in a transfer request in 2013 because he thought Spurs were about to offer Villa £25million.

However, no bid was made, leaving Benteke in an awkward position and he eventually signed a new contract at Villa Park.

It is believed that chain of events has made Benteke wary of another approach from Spurs.

There is also a suspicion over whether Tottenham can afford the fee given Benteke has a £32.5m release clause.

It is believed Spurs are only looking at players with a maximum price of £15m. Their stance follows the disappointing performances of big-money buys Roberto Soladado and Erik Lamela, who cost a total of £56m in 2013.[/article]

Beecroft from Talksport is claiming a fee has been agreed and a deal could be announced today.

Talksport running with the story we've done a deal for him. If we have, I'd presume the deal for Sterling has also been done. I'd guess that any deal for Benteke is dependant upon Sterling going as it'd take us way over our 30-40mill usual net budget.

the fact the source is from Talksport, the radio station that arguably promotes fiction as fact.. means this could potentially be bullshit..

Though I fear otherwise..

I'm climbing off the fence. OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCKING NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our most expensive at GBP35million was Andy Carroll, and he was a giant forward and a failure. Now GBP32.5 million (just short of that record) for another giant? Hmmm.... I am not sure.... until I am proven wrong.

the exact quote.. confirmed by SSN

Liverpool are set to sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke "if not today then in the very near future", according to talkSPORT.

Which translated means..

They have not actually signed him yet.. but they could do.. but we made it sound like they are right now because that's what we do on Talksport..

So in a nut shell no need to panic... just yet...
