Benteke - BOOOOOO the puns

Ryan and Dreamie agreeing!!!!

Binnie posting without pictures or bolding!!!

That's 2 signs of the approaching apocalypse!!!

I'm going to live each day like it's the last from now on.

So..... coke & hookers.... Who's in?

If you have to wait for an impending apocalypse for coke & hookers you've been living life wrong.

Benteke is a decent player but doesn't fit our style of play in the slightest. Would be another waste of money signing.

Remember that feeling you used to get when watching Suarez and Torres in their swaggering fucking prime for us? Y'know, the one where you used to just laugh at how good they were.

Not gonna get that from Christian Benteke really are we?
Love this post... That's exactly how I am thinking with this...

Where turning into Everton if we shell 30 million on this fella..

Who is better Lukakau or Benteke ??

We're not going to be reviewing or signing players until the structural changes are implemented and our current targets reevaluated. It could be a long summer if that is the case and could see us missing out on identified targets.

They've had plenty of time to prepare for this situation.

Its a no from me.
I dont rate him and am 100% against signing anyone who looks good in a shit team.

Milner im more than happy with.
Ings, Benteke, Berahinho, Austin etc no fucking chance.

Its Carroll, Downing, Adam all over again.
What next Nzonzi and Joey Barton.

If we want to scratch around for 4th and 5th these are exactly the kind of players we need.

He's been great since Sherwood instilled some sort of positivity, but was shite when the chips were down. We're not going to get someone of Suarez's ability but we need someone who will keep plugging away when things aren't going well.

Yeah Benteke is a no from me too.

We were spoiled with Suarez. His contribution to the team as a whole was immeasurable. He lifted those around him and gave us belief.

Sooner or later we have to get over Suarez and we have to accept we won't be signing his like this summer.

No because that's absolutely not what i said.

I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth mate - I was basically trying to make the point that that should be the ambition of the club, but I'm not sure we've been trying to do that since we signed him.

Yep, that's what I meant by bringing up Suarez. We need to find someone of his ilk. Someone with his hunger and ability to lift those around him. Benteke is a decent player but he's not the player I want. Finding the 'new Suarez' might be difficult though.

4th or 5th?, you're in dreamland. Get a grip.

But we're gonna need at least 8 players to replace those leaving and there's no way we can afford 8 players who look good in a good team.

The problem with Carroll was that we overpaid by £22m (and his subsequent injury problems), nobody wanted Downing and Adam was just a silly punt.....we paid £65m for those players whereas most decent posters could have told you (when we signed them) that they were only worth a combined £20m.

IMO Ings is worth about £8m-£9m and we're rumoured to be getting him for £3m, Milner would be worth about £12m and we're getting him free so I love both these signings because it will keep the vast bulk of our transfer kitty free for (hopefully) 2 or 3 really "game changing" signings.

Benteke is NOT worth anything near £30m and I'd be reluctant to pay over £15m for him.

I actually think Austin's a better player than Benteke even if they were the same price so rather than waste £30m on Benteke I'd rather we (maybe) waste £15m on Austin.

I would hope that there are a number of attributes that are key to the way Rodgers wants to play - the ability to press being the obvious one - but judging by the transfers last summer I'm not sure that either a) these attributes have been identified or b) are being considered as part of the transfer strategy. To all intents and purposes the striker options available to Rodgers were Balotelli, Remy or Eto - two of whom, at least, aren't renowned for their pressing/work-rate.

When you consider the values of Costa and Lukaku, Benteke is definitely in the 20-25m bracket. You'd be dreaming to think he'd go for any less.

A good deal would be getting him for 20m.

A fair deal probably is around 25m.

A desperate deal is anything more.

I like him as a player as he's someone who bullies defenders (and would give us a focal point), and unlike Carroll/Lambert, he can run in behind (which means he's more a Drogba/Costa type).

BUT if he were our only/marquee signing, I'd rather save the money, add an extra 10-15m via sales and purchase someone genuine world class (any chance of Benzema? probably not).

Hell, I'd rather invest in a player who has a higher ceiling of potential, but hasn't been found out yet (the next Aguero/Suarez South American type wherever they may be - Dybala? Vietto? I've heard good things about them).

Benteke is very good and other than Sturridge, he is way better than any other striker on our books. He scores goals for a start.

He would bring a physical element to our game and we are probably the shortest and weakest team in the League so that would be a big plus. He is also ace in the air and that is another quality we lack massively, the number of sitters we missed from headers in front of goal last season was shocking.

He is also quick and finishes very well with either foot and he holds the ball up to bring others into play.

The one area I'm unconvinced about is his work rate and that might be where we should exercise some caution. He is not half-arsed like Balotelli or a headless chicken like Borini but is he suited to a high-pressing game? I'm not sure but he is miles better than Charlie Austin or Danny Ings and there is no comparison with Carroll, Benteke is a mobile, athletic striker not a lumbering mammoth on a tightrope.
