Borini's thinking?

I've never heard a player scream so loudly whenever he's tackled. I bet you could hear the little weasel from right at the top of the upper centenary.
I read that as tickled. It led to a completely different interpretation until I realised my error.

I'll be surprised if Borini doesn't make the Champions League squad

Club Trained (4)
Gerrard
Flanagan
Suso
Sterling

Association Trained (4)
Henderson
Sturridge
Lallana
Lambert

Others (17)
Jones
Johnson
Enrique
Toure
Lovren
Coutinho
Sakho
Moreno
Manquillo
Lucas
Mignolet
Can
Allen
Borini
Skrtel
Balotelli
Markovic

We might have to find a spot for our 3rd choice keeper though.

You lot are mental.

Free workout sessions almost everyday, free access to games at Anfield at your viewing pleasure, free access to world class sporting and club facilities (Melwood), almost stress-free job (sitting on the bench is all you'd have to strive for each week)....and many, many more perks....all that while getting paid shit loads of money every week.

Now tell me, why wouldn't ANYONE want to stay ?

It's almost like the best job ever !

Except he's some loser on the sidelines.

Nobody really enjoys that no matter what their profession.

I suspect he'd be able to a decent job if he came on for an away match in Europe. He's quite a clever player, even if his ability doesn't match his intelligence. But will he be fit? He's due his annual lay-off fairly soon.

If that's Ward, I think he should be able to fit into List B? If not, he can go under the List A Club Trained section while Suso or Sterling enters List B? If it's someone like Valdes we want to squeeze in eventually (and that will likely happen only after the Group stages), then I suppose it'll be Jones who drops out due to the list restrictions, at least for this season?

I think perhaps he fancies his chances against Lambert as the 3rd striker behind Sturridge and Balotelli - he's obviously got the age and pace/mobility advantage over Lambert, but not the track record in finishing. I can see how he might think that, at 24, he has room to improve while Lambert at 32 is more likely to decline.

Our League Cup game against Boro will show where he stands I suppose.

Pretty sure Allen and Johnson are going to make Association Trained myself. I think Jones does as well. Possibly Borini.

For the Champions League, we can only put 4 club and 4 association trained players in the list, the rest, regardless of their status will have to go into the 'others' list. Unfortunately, we only have Gerrard whom we can put into the club trained list while the other 3 can be put in this list or List B, which is for club trained players under a certain age.

None of the 17 players in the Others list falls into List B, hence there will not be any free slots. That was the scenario we faced that time when Hyypia was dropped from the Champions League squad.

Yes they all do, but as long as we've named our 4 CT and 4 AT, it doesn't matter how we categorize the rest in List A.

I find it better to look at a maximum of 17 "others" myself rather than concentrating on the homegrown ones.

The under 21 players do not take up a place.

They do for the CL unfortunately. If I'm not wrong, the CL's List B is stricter than the EPL's U-21 list, as the List B for the CL also has requirements on how long the player has been at the club (I think 2 years). The EPL U-21 list doesn't have that requirement.

Yeah I think you are right. Just had a look at the UEFA rules briefly. Sterling and Suso don't have to count but then I don't know who takes their place and it gets complicated/dull.

I recall a similar reaction (maybe not quite as widespread) when Henderson declined a move to Fulham (?), now look at him

Maybe in 2 years time we will all be delighted that Borini decided to stay & fight for his place

My main memory from that time is the despair of us going in for Dempsey at £10m. The Henderson as makeweight thing barely registered.

I quite like Borini.

Had we sold him then I'd have wanted a replacement as I think with Balotelli's suspension record, Sturridge injury record & Lambert's age, we may need our fourth choice striker more than people realise.

As it is I think he's about the right level for our 4th choice striker, & in making this decision he's indicated he's either a greedy cunt who is prepared to sit back & get his cash for simply training, or he's prepared to fight for his place.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, he looked good for Sunderland, he really adjusted to the league there, knows how to get at defenders, & he's on a relatively low wage.

I don't know why it's ok for Borini to act completely in his own self-interest to the club's significant detriment but it wasn't for Owen and Torres. Is it because they were club legends but he's shit and never contributed anything to the cause, and that's the kind of creep we like?

Fair play to the guy. He might have deliberately fucked us over, but at least he's never done anything in return.

If it was greed he probably would have made the effort to travel to QPR on the off chance.

He may not have fucked us over.

Who knows, bad luck with injuries or suspension & having an extra striker could get us qualified for the CL last 16, or into the top 4 at the end of the season simply by scoring a goal at the right time. At 30k a week either of those would play his wages many times over.

He's here now, let's support the lad. Reina got support from most of our fans even after trying to woo Utd FFS, this lad has turned down more money to stay & fight for his place.

Rodgers flat out told him he wont get much playing time and he was hoping Inter come in for him. When they didn't and we agreed fees with Sunderland and QPR, he dug his heels in and demanded huge wages to scupper the deals. He gambled and lost. Reserves calling.

Yep, not getting the Borini hate here. It doesn't seem as if his sale was dependent on another player arriving so he didn't really 'fuck' us over or anything. We need four striker and he wants to fight for his place then I'm okay with that. I presume he priced himself out of a move to Sunderland and QPR on purpose. He could have gone there to earn more so calling him greedy isn't fair.

The only thing that can be questioned is his desire to get minutes under his belt. At his age he should be playing regularly. He is obviously confident in his own ability as all players should be. Surely his plan is to knuckle down and wait for his chance and take it when it arises. One or two injuries to us up front has him playing CL football instead of a relegation battle. He probably also thinks he'll get a move back to Italy in Jan or in the summer if game time is limited here which is obviously more preferable to him.

Is it not similar to the Henderson situation? Rogers was happy to let him go to Fulham. He turned it down and worked his balls off and now he's an automatic starter for us. I'm not for a minute saying that Borini will have a similar reversal of fortunes but we can't be angry at him for wanting to stay.

It's not similar to the Henderson situation because Henderson is good and Borini is shit.

The best thing that can happen now is Borini gets a few minutes in the league cup, gets a career ending injury, and we get the insurance pay out. Fuck him.

Henderson was massively wank at that time, so that's revisionism
