This thread is about the football implications of Brexit – what does everyone think will be the effect on LFC and British football in general, if the referendum ends the way it currently seems going? Will the Premier League lose some of its attractiveness? Will there be any new issues with foreign players/coaches/agents? Any possible positives from this?

The € has risen by 6.2% against the £ in just the last 4.5 hours - a trend that could have a profound effect on Ligue 1/PL summer dealings.

From a French footballsite

We will see less foreign players in the Premier League, that's for sure. The same rules that apply to players outside the EU will also apply to players in the EU in respect of signing them.. Therefore they will be subject to Work Permit rules..

For instance.. you wont see Players like Dimintri Payet in the Premier League.. Pre-westham he would of not reached the criteria required in respect of the Work Permit rules..

So now it's already more expensive to buy players from Europe. For instance if Man City or United want to compete with Real for Pogba, they will have to pay 6.2% more as of today.

The £ was down to it's lowest vs. the $ for 30 years .... that's a lot more than 6.2%. Well over 10% drop.

Right, but we would pay in euros for players from the continent, no? And Euro dropped against the $ too based on fears that the whole European project might be about to unravel.

Might be a short term effect though

I don't see why any football club at the top level, least not one owned couldn't pay in dollars..

Moving forward, when we actually do come out properly, I presume we'd revert to the transfer system we have for non-EU players now? You can only sign the good ones? The ones that have played x% of internationals etc?

Point I made earlier...

You wont see the Like of Dimintri Payet in the premiership again.. We would of never been able sign or would have had problem signing the likes of Enrique, Riera, Luis Garcia, Xabi Alonso, Djimi Traoare..

Benteke would of never entered the premiership..

If it doesn't - English clubs could receive a fee for an out of contract player.

Fifa extended that ruling to non-EU players in 1997... however those non-eu players would have to be playing for a club within the EU..

So yes we could potentially obtain a fee.

Actually no we wont as we will most likely be still be part of the single market, The European Economic Area (EEA) and the Bosman rule applies to that area to

[article]
The European Court of Justice ruled in Bosman's favor in December 1995 sending shock waves through the continent's transfer market.
But until now the Bosman ruling has applied only to nationals of the EU and the European Economic Area (EEA). Players from outside the EU and EEA were still subject to transfer fees, even if they were moving between clubs within the EU and EEA.
[/article]

[article]
The EEA includes EU countries and also Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. It allows them to be part of the EU’s single market.
Switzerland is neither an EU nor EEA member but is part of the single market - this means Swiss nationals have the same rights to live and work in the UK as other EEA nationals.

You are assuming there will not be any changes to our current immigration laws .. but since they take into account our membership of the Single Market (free movement in trade, services, labour and goods) there would surely have to be. That said we may still end up as part of the Single Market (e.g. Norway and Switzerland) in which case the status quo will remain. Fact is nothing has been decided and it's more than likely nothing will be decided for at least 4 years if not a lot longer.

See my previous note..

like I said we may still remain a member EEA for membership of the Single Market, which in essence would also mean restrictions in signing players from the EU would be no different to what they are now..

Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant was mocked on Twitter after asking what Brexitwould mean for England’s chances at “Euros 2018”.

As David Cameron prepared to resign as Prime Minister over the vote, Pennant mused: “Now are not in Europe what’s going to happen with the next euros 2018??? #eu”.

Twitter users were quick to point out that the World Cup will take place in 2018 – and although the UK has voted out of the EU, it hasn’t decided to leave the entire continent.

Fucking hell. It's time for a weighted voted system, if you have 10 GCSE's you get 10 votes, if you have a PhD it's 100. If you're Jermaine Pennant, you get to watch people count the votes, so that you can hopefully learn to count.

None of this is accurate or true
