Can contract agreed?

I find it hard to believe a word of what he says to be honest. He's doing a Mcmanaman and stalling on revealing he's going on a Bosman to mitigate the flak he'll receive whilst he's still here. I thought it was funny that he put the emphasis on his agent sorting out his future as if he hasn't got any input into the decision.
I hope he keeps his form up for the rest of the season but I already consider him gone.

With transfer fees continuing to increase, making it harder for players to leave, buy-out clauses are going to become more common. Imagine being a super talent stuck in a bottom team and on your first contract. The team demands 80 million. Could potentially cost you a move to your favourite team because they refuse to pay that much. So you're stuck playing Allardyce type football for 3 more years, ruining your development.

Wages come into transfer fees too. I doubt there will be any player on a first time contract, in one of the lower places sides, that would command a fee in that region any time soon.

I said before City I fancied him to have a great game. Big games seem to suit him best, and I liked what I was hearing from him the week before the game where he was saying no matter his future, he thought Liverpool had a genuine chance of silverware this season and he was really excited to be part of that. The noise after the game just affirms that that wasn't just talk. If we go a little further in both cup competitions I can see Can signing his contract before the season is up.

Doubt his agent would let him do that.
Far more lucrative to become a free agent. He could probably still have the option of resigning with LFC at that point.

The thing is every player is just one game away from a potentially career ending injury, and so running down a contract is a stressful business. I'm sure we can afford to sweeten the deal and reflect where he is in his contract. I don't doubt for a moment that we can outdo what Juve will offer him, free agent or no.

1 good game and it's all lets desperately sign him up again. When he was playing bollocks for like 5 consecutive games the story was different.

On the one hand we have people telling us how we need reinforcements and on the other, Can should be allowed to leave on a free.

Sign him up and be done with it...

That's the way I read his comments as well. I've changed my mind on Can, he is capable of dominating the midfield even against top quality sides and is becoming more consistent so it would be a big boost to the squad if he signed a new contract but these comments don't give any real indication that he is staying. He's gone in the summer.

We all know you just play out of your skin, say they’re your dream team and then be set free. Contracts mean fuck all.

I think opinions on Can change from game to game

Almost as if he isn't very consistent.

I think he's done well overall so far this season, though. It's true that Henderson, Wijnaldum and Can (and Milner actually) are not exactly brilliant, they all have flaws and often struggle to maintain performance levels, but Can has shown enough quality to suggest we would miss him.

They could always buy themselves out and on their current wages it wouldn't cost them an arm and a leg. But then most players are greedy fuckers (even though they could negotiate that buyout back into their new salary+tax).

The club should insert team performance clauses.

Win the CL or league and you can go to Barca for just £80m. Anything else and you're stuck here in purgatory....

Why would want to be stuck with a bunch not capable of winning CL. Traore Biscan and Baros among others has done this.

The crowd warned the players (and Can especially) on a load of occasions on Sunday. It seemed like dozens.
They always should. It rarely gives them a heads up as the sound has to travel, but it sure as fuck helps intimidate the opposition.

The speed of sound is unlikely to be the limiting factor in this chain of causality, rather the limiting factor is probably the speed of the electrons in the vacuum of their brains.

Imagine the outcry if we win the European Cup & then sell all our best players at bargain prices over the following months

Ok ... how much is he worth in todays market ?

Right now based on having 5 months left on his contract hes worth about £15m. If we put a £35m release clause in a new contract its far more than we could get in January or the summer the way things currently stand.
