Christian Benteke.

24 years old. Has an almost 1 in 2 scoring rate over the course of his Premiership career despite some injury problems.

In his first season he hit 19 goals in 34 games (104 shots)

In his second season he only played 26 games, scoring 10 from 67 shots.

This season he's got nine goals from 65 shots over 23 games.

The running total is 38 goals in 77 games.

He doesn't have the same hype around him that he did after his first season but for me he's still an attractive proposition.

Fully fit and playing in a side like ours that can stretch the field he could be a very good option to consider this summer with two years left to run on his deal

Assuming they'd both cost about £20m.......Charlie Austin > Benteke.

I like him and have been on about us getting him for 2 years now.

He's playing in a fucking shite team and still scores goals.

He can finish, he's quick, strong and can head a ball. Had a bad injury last season but he's on his way back. I'd love us to sign him.

Seems decent enough on the counter at Villa. No idea if he would be any good for us as it requires different skills.

Hardly any of our current forwards seem to have any useful skills so why not.

3 of those goals were in 1 game, against a very poor QPR defence..

He has been meh for most of the season, missing in most games.. Granted having injuries and Lambert as your manager has not helped

That being said.. No... carries too much risk for the money Villa will expect from us...

We would be lucky to get both Studge and Benteke on the pitch at the same time..

I would consider taking Charlie Austin though...

He knows where the net is... Could be a decent bench option to have...

How on earth is he only 24? We already have the Belgian being played ahead of him, so I don't think we should be entertaining this signing.

What different skills does it require?

Our best football was played last season on the counter attack.

We just need someone other than the sideways brothers in midfield to start the attack.

It requires breaking down a defence that are sitting back rather than just legging it past them at speed. He seems alright at that bit.

And if the first pass out of our midfield is forward rather than sideways the defence doesn't get a chance to sit back.

He'd improve us, our club just doesn't realise what a handicap Lucas and Allen are yet

Is he good at holding the ball up then? I don't really know as Villa are shite to watch.

Well, defences are much more likely to be sitting back against us than Villa so it would be handy. If we are passing it forwards like.

Of course. So easy. Bound to work every time that.

We should probably do more of that now.

In fairness to Benteke, he lost his place to Origi at the World Cup only because he ruptured his achilles tendon in April last year. He's started both Belgium's last two European qualifiers, one with Origi in the starting lineup (vs Cyprus) while the other with Origi on the bench (vs Israel).

I'm under the impression that the injury he got is probably one of the worst injuries for players to have - someone with better physio knowledge / experience feel free to correct me.

Technically, he is far superior to bony.

His injury record is a concern, plus villa would want silly money for him.

Signing him instead of Balotelli would have made much more sense.
Started the season injured though and Villa were quoted 25 mill or something.

That said, Lambert + Balotelli were about 22 mill in total so in hindsight that would have been much better spent on Benteke.

He's got just about everything as a striker. Can hold it up, play on the counter and is a hassle for every defender.

He'd be another in the long line of shit players we pay ridiculously over the odds for. We almost single-handedly keep the coffers of middling teams full year after year.

If they get relegated he might be a bit cheaper.
I'm not a big fan myself, he always looks like a big lumbering berk.

After going from Suarez to Balotelli, I suppose Balotelli to Benteke won't seem like as big of a downgrade.

Never gonna happen. He's a between the penalty boxes player (meaning he never ventures wide of the imaginary lines between penalty box to penalty box) which, whether you agree with it or not, is pretty much what Brodge detests. Forwards in his system have to be able to operate across the front line, have to be great with the ball at their fete, and have to be able to pick it up wide and make things happen.

Benteke's a goalscorer for sure, but he's not even remotely the sort of forward Brodge would go for. Especially after the debacles of Lambert and Balotelli - two players who operate in a similar number 9 fashion to Benteke.

I don't understand how Rosco could be so anti-Suarez, telling us all that he's shit against any half decent opposition while the true star was Sturridge, then to go suggesting we bring in Benteke to play in a Rodgers side.

I don't see how the first half of that post is relevant to the second half?

Fair comment. ;)
