Clyne is back

Do we even want him back? That's what comes from being out for so long. You look at Trent and Gomez and surely you don't want them to go back to the ressies for a long time. Clyne's a good defender but out of the three he surely offers least going forwards. I'm glad he's getting back into contention, but I'm not sure I WANT him back.

Yep, it's been a while too and the stories away from the pitch haven't done him any favours whatsoever. Modo maintains he's our best right back, but I'm not so sure after so long out and with a back injury. Those sort of injuries tend to have a lasting impact.

One thing is certain, however promising Gomez is, Klopp has rightly taken him out of the limelight for a bit (I know he's having niggles too), but he was making costly errors far too regularly.

Modo maintains that he's our best fullback? Anyone with half a brain would say that he's our best fullback.
He's not good going forward? Jesus Christ the flipflopping that's going on here? I thought defence first was all we were supposed to care about?
Anyway, I don't know if Clyne will be back to his best, but if he is, then he's easily our best fullback.
Fuck me, we used to have Carra at fullback and y'all loved it.

Eh? Who's been flipflopping? I've never been that much of a fan of his going forwards. He was better for Southampton, and should have been better for us, the way we play, but he's regressed. Anyway, "y'all" loved Lucas, Mighty Mouse, so I'd shut up and show a bit of humility, for once.

Clyne hasnt been great going forward, I even posted a thread about it, but he's been one of our most consistent players.
Never saw Clyne make the same mistakes TAA and especially Gomez are making.

I forgot Clyne was playing for us when he was 19.

We have an attack capable of winning the CL.

We need a defence to match and Clyne is hands down our best full back in terms of defending.

Whether he can get back to his best who knows but we should be looking to get him bask into the team asap to give us the best possible chance at winning the CL

It's not hard to get the point if you bother to "think" about it. He's been out for a longtime, has had a severe back injury and doesn't have the benefit of a pre-season to get up to speed.

Anyone thinking he'll be starting games any time soon is kidding themselves. I'd understand the overreaction if it was a problem position. TAA and Robertson have been real plus points for us this season and for the first time in what feels like forever, we have a settled backline that's being breached far less than it was.

He's back, great, it adds to our depth, that's about as far as it will go for the rest of the season and rightly so.

Amazing how Carragher managed to inexplicably get brought up, it's borderline obsessive. Everyone else knows he's a legend, bar some idiot still pining for Luke from fucking Bedford.

Settled backline?

TAA and Gomez have been in and out as much as Karius, Lovren and Matip get rotated almost weekly and VVD is only here 5 mins.

The only settled player currently is Robertson

Are we still talking about defenders defending and attackers attacking etc... The team has showed how well they stick together and front Line defending first and back four supporting attack.

Clyne has done nothing wrong but surely we would do well to move him to fund signings elsewhere and continue developing Trent and Gomez.

That's if we're going to develop TAA as a FB.

With Can probably going, Milner in his twilight, Henderson constantly suffering injuries, Winnie & Ox inconsistent- even with Keita + 1 (probably) arrival, there is much to be said for giving him a go in Midfield.

Isn't a CM where we expect him to develop in to?

Every time I see this thread title I start humming the rest of that god-awful Eminen song.

I'm sure no one else did, but now you all will, so ha!

Clyne is back
Back again
Yes he's back
Tell a friend
Yes he's back, yes he's back...

I dont think either TAA or Gomez is going to be a right back long term and if hes fully fit (big if) then Clyne is still a better defender than both of them. I also dont think selling him would generate much money to strengthen other positions so Im inclined to keep him and ease him back into the squad.

I can't wait to see Clyne working down the right with Salah. In his absence he seems to have gotten worse in everyone's minds, which hasn't been helped by the fact that Gomez & TAA both have an excellent final ball on them.

Clyne’s final ball was pretty shite though. And he’d often get a little panicked when he had the ball but would be under pressure when in attack. TAA looks way more confident in that regard. He’ll have to offer a whole lot in defense if he’s to justify his place in the team now. I mean for the general games where the fullbacks are expected to bomb forward and create. I’d still trust him way more than the young ‘uns for the big games against the quality attacks.

Klopp confirmed that Gomez will be moved into the centre, so there is no point in selling Clyne.
Clyne and TAA as our right full backs, sorted.

Absence does makes the heart grow fonder. Clyne has always been solid in defence; in attack however he was often wasteful.

This is fair. I've always liked Clyne; he's quick, aggressive and a solid defender - but there's no way he's a better attacking option that TAA, who is a MILES better passer and has more attacking quality and instincts.

His final ball is poor, but I think he is a wiley operator in the box and on the wing - makes good runs and troubles the opposition.

I am in favour of Trent being full nurtured into this role full time though as he is a complete baller.

I'd have Clyne over TAA until TAA improves defensively then its a no brainer. Gomez doesn't even come into the equation as he's the worst of the three imo. Im a defense first kind of guy and TAA is nowhere near as good defensively as Clyne right now.
