[article=http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2014/Jun/ander-herrera-signs-for-manchester-united.aspx?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=ManUtd]Manchester United is delighted to announce that, after triggering the buy-out clause in his contract on Tuesday, it has signed Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Club in Bilbao, pending the receipt of the International Transfer Certificate. He joins on a four-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year.

Ander, 24, from Bilbao, joined Athletic Club from Real Zaragoza in 2011 and has since made 128 appearances, scoring 11 goals. He has been capped by Spain at Under-20, Under-21 and Under-23 level.

Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs said: "Ander is a fantastic young player, with great energy and creativity. We believe him to be one of the brightest young prospects in Spain and I am certain he will be a big hit with the United fans. I’m delighted he has made the decision to come to Manchester and play his part in the club’s future. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action on our summer tour to America.”

Ander Herrera said: "Signing for Manchester United is a dream come true. I have played at Old Trafford for Athletic Club in the UEFA Europa League and it was one of the highlights of my career so far. I have joined United to do all I can to help the team reach the club's objectives. Having arrived on Tuesday, I’m excited to now be living in Manchester and I can’t wait for my first game in United’s famous red shirt. I will never forget my time with Athletic Club and I’d like to thank the fans and staff for all their support and, above all, wish all my fantastic former team-mates all the best for the future."[/article]

[article]Málaga Club de Fútbol and Liverpool Football Club have come to an agreement for Luis Alberto (San José del Valle, Cádiz, 28/09/92) to be loaned out to the Blue and Whites for the next two seasons, until 2015/16. A versatile player on the offensive line, Luis Alberto is pacey and skilful on the pitch. The Cádiz-born footballer made his First Division debut at just 18 years of age, and has represented Spain with the under-18’s, under-19’s and under-21’s. Luis Alberto sailed through his routine medical this morning at Clínica Rincón – Málaga CF at La Rosaleda.[/article]

LFC official site reports this as a one-season loan. Which one is correct, I wonder.

So you help your hometown club into the Champions League and switch to a team not competing on the European scene....hmmm. He's going to be boss, unfortunately. Herrera, I mean.

Brighton - Sammy Lee (Assistant Manager), Antti Niemi (Goalkeeping Coach)

[article=http://www.seagulls.co.uk/news/article/hyypia-appoints-backroom-team-1695889.aspx#mmeRbObcRgM0mIfT.99]Brighton & Hove Albion manager Sami Hyypia has made his first appointments, making Sammy Lee his assistant manager, and Antti Niemi the club's first-team goalkeeping coach.

Lee and Niemi, alongside first-team coach Nathan Jones and strength and conditioning coach Thomas Barnden - who steps up from his position at the club's academy - form Hyypia's new coaching team.

They are set to begin work on Monday at the club's new training facility, the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, following two days of medical testing of the players this week.

Hyypia said, "I am delighted Sammy and Antti have accepted our offer, and I am very pleased to welcome them to the club. Together with Nathan and Tom, they will form our first-team coaching group.

"I know both Sammy and Antti well, having been at Liverpool when Sammy was assistant manager, and I played alongside Antti for the Finnish national team.

"They are two great characters and will bring a great deal to the club, to the players, and to me personally as manager. Sammy's and Antti's coaching credentials are first rate and they complement Nathan's coaching abilities and Tom’s experience and knowledge of the physical preparation necessary for players. I'm looking forward to working with all four coaches.

"Sammy has played and coached at the top level of football domestically and with England. Antti has played in the English and Scottish Premier Leagues, so he knows British football very well. Since he retired from playing, he has coached in Finland and also with the national team."

Lee joins Albion from Bolton Wanderers, where he was head of the club's academy. He was assistant manager to Gerard Houllier at Liverpool, during Hyypia's time at Anfield, a role he combined with one as coach for the England senior team under Sven Goran Eriksson and previously with the England under 21 team.

He went full-time with England in 2004, before joining Bolton in 2005 - while continuing as part of Eriksson's England coaching team.

Lee had a brief spell as manager at the (recently re-named) Macron Stadium, before returning to Liverpool as assistant to Rafael Benitez; in 2012 he joined Bolton for a third time - he also had a spell as player for the club - as head of academy coaching.

Niemi is the current goalkeeping coach with the Finnish national team, and he will continue in that role alongside his new position with Albion. He won 67 international caps between 1992 and 2007.

He played more than 400 senior club games during his career in Finland, Denmark with FC Copenhagen and the majority in the UK, with Rangers, Hearts, Charlton, Southampton, Fulham and Portsmouth.

The pair will be introduced to the first-team squad before starting work next week; Albion's first-team players have undergone two days of pre-season testing and will begin pre-season training with Hyypia and his new coaching team on Monday afternoon.[/article]

Ipswich - Alex Henshall (free transfer)

[article=http://www.itfc.co.uk/news/article/henshall-signs-1696229.aspx]Alex Henshall has become Town’s first signing of the summer after putting pen to paper on a two year contract.

The 20-year-old winger spent the final six weeks of last season on loan at Portman Road from Manchester City and was named on the bench for Blues on a number of occasions, although he has yet to make his debut for the Club.

Alex joined City in 2010 at the age of 16 after spending eight years as a junior at Swindon. He represented the Premier League champions’ Academy and U21 sides.

In his time at the Etihad Stadium he was loaned out to Chesterfield and Bristol Rovers and has also been capped at international level, playing for England at U16 and U17 level.

The wideman joins Town as a free agent. [/article]

Burnley - Michael Kightly (undisclosed fee, reportedly £1.5million)

[article=http://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/news/article/kight-flies-in-260614-1690151.aspx#1XM08cymiUe5e3SC.99]Burnley boss Sean Dyche has bolstered his midfield ranks with the signature of Michael Kightly from Stoke City for an undisclosed fee, subject to approval.

The 28-year-old winger, who played a key role in Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League during a season-long loan spell last season, has signed a three-year deal at Turf Moor and becomes the first signing ahead of the top-flight return.

And Kightly admitted the chance to return to Turf Moor on a permanent basis was simply too good to turn down.

He said: “As soon as we secured promotion to the Premier League last season, I wanted to make sure that I signed.

“Coming in on loan is usually difficult but it only took a few weeks here to get settled and it is great to be a permanent Burnley player now as opposed to a loanee.

“It took a while to get it over the line but now it is all secured I’m really pleased.”

Kightly ended the Clarets’ campaign in scintillating form and is now relishing the possibility of regular action in the Premier League.
He added: “At the tail end of last season I felt like I was getting back to my best and if I can carry that into next season then I will have a good campaign.

“It’ll be a tough start to the campaign with Chelsea at home but you can look at that in two ways and we’ll certainly start with a positive mind-set.

“People might write us off, but we’re certainly not here to make up the numbers and hopefully we can surprise a few people again.”
Basildon-born Kightly began his professional career in non-league football before making a permanent switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2007.

During the 2008-2009 season he helped the Midlands club to promotion with eight goals and after a brief loan spell with Watford, working under Dyche, he moved on to Stoke City.

The former England U21 international joined the Clarets on loan for the entirety of the 2013-14 promotion winning season and contributed five goals in 38 games, including key strikes against Blackpool and Wigan Athletic. [/article]

Norwich - Kyle Lafferty (undisclosed fee)
BrJIT82CIAQsQTq.jpg

[article=http://www.canaries.co.uk/news/article/20140627-norwich-city-kyle-lafferty-1696535.aspx]NORWICH City can confirm that Kyle Lafferty is set to move to the Canaries from Palermo for an undisclosed fee on July 1, subject to the relevant paperwork being completed.

The ex-Burnley and Rangers forward has put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract at Carrow Road, with an option for a further twelve months, and will become Neil Adams’ second signing of the summer after City’s boss moved for Bournemouth’s Lewis Grabban earlier this month.

The 26-year-old, who has 37 caps for Northern Ireland, arrives on the back of one season with Italian Serie B champions Palermo, where he was their star player, scoring 11 goals in 34 appearances.

“Norwich is a team that wants to get promoted back to the Premier League at the first opportunity, so I’m excited to come here and start playing football for a team like this,” he said.

“I’ve played in the Championship before and I’ve played against Norwich, and things I noticed about the club were the fans and the football they played.

“Speaking to the gaffer, everything he said and everything he wants me to do, it’s good to have someone like that believing in me. I can’t wait to get started.”

Lafferty progressed through Burnley’s Academy, making his full debut in 2005 before going on to play 89 times in three seasons with the Clarets.

He moved to Rangers for £3m in July 2008, and scored on his home debut – the first of 38 goals he would go on to bag for the Scottish giants across four years. He was a teammate of current City full-back Steven Whittaker at the Glasgow club.

The striker decided on a move abroad to Swiss outfit FC Sion in the summer of 2012, with an impressive campaign that included 12 goals earning him the switch to Palermo last July.

Lafferty was given his senior Northern Ireland debut by Lawrie Sanchez in 2006, and has scored nine times for his country. [/article]

Vladlen is a really curious name to have as a 20-year old. It's derived by putting together words "Vladimir" + "Lenin" and people with those kinds of combination names usually belong to a certain era... I've never met a Vladlen younger than 60.

Interesting. Learnt something new! :)

Lille - Marcos Lopes (loan)
BrEOmltCAAMaLrY.jpg

[article]Marcos Lopes is so excited about his loan move to Lille he announced it himself.

“I confirm one year contract with Lille on loan by Manchester City,” he tweeted, accompanied by a picture of him signing on the dotted line.

A quite check on the websites of both City and the French club confirmed the 18-year-old had jumped the gun.

But it’s perhaps understandable that he should be so keen to get going.

Anyone who watched him last season will know Lopes found himself in a type of football purgatory.

Not yet good enough to play regularly for the first team, but too good for the Under-21 Premier League.

It’s a difficult situation at a time that is crucial to his development.

City have attempted to solve the problem by sending him out on loan.

The idea is that he gets games and experience in France at a club that helped nurture players like Eden Hazard.

It is, however, slightly surprising in that there was genuine hope among some City fans that he might play a bigger role for the senior team next season.

He made four appearances last season, including a man-of-the-match performance against West Ham in the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg.

But it’s not the lack senior games that’s the problem.

It’s the question of what he does when he’s not in the squad.

It is debatable whether the under-21 league, supposedly a step between youth team and first team, is fit for purpose.

Shortly before departing for Barcelona B, former City youngster Denis Suarez insisted it is not.

“For me, the best thing would be if we had a second team playing in the second division in England, like the Spanish clubs do,” he said.

“This would allow us to gain experience against other league teams.”

It’s something FA chairman Greg Dyke and his commission have considered, before it was quickly dismissed by the Football League.[/article]

Swansea - Bafetimbi Gomis (free transfer)

[article=http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/gomis-signs-1669757.aspx#iX46eFKoUepSIbc7.99]Swansea City is pleased to announce the signing of French international striker Bafetimbi Gomis, subject to international clearance.

The 28-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Swans on a free transfer from French club Lyon.

The signing gives manager Garry Monk's squad a huge boost ahead of the new Barclays Premier League campaign.

Gomis, who will join the forward ranks alongside Wilfried Bony, completed a medical and agreed personal terms at the Liberty Stadium tonight.

The 12-cap international netted 22 goals last season, plus 25 the previous campaign, after signing for Lyon for 13m euros in July 2009 from St Etienne where he scored 40 goals in 142 appearances.

While at St Etienne he spent a six-month loan spell at Troyes in 2005 where scored six times in 13 games.

He has progressed every season since his move to Lyon and leaves as a free agent after turning down the offer of a new contract with 172 appearances and 62 goals.

He turned down offers from a number of Premier League and overseas clubs to sign for the Swans. [/article]

Swansea - Javier Garcia (Goalkeeping Coach)

[article=http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/javier-garcia-signs-1689962.aspx#DOBGoTG4UFvmjbSu.99]Swansea City has appointed highly regarded Spaniard Javier Garcia as the club’s new goalkeeping coach.

Garcia, 34, arrives from La Liga side Sevilla and will replace Adrian Tucker who has left the club.

Barcelona-born, he is rated as one of the top goalkeeping coaches in Spain and earned huge plaudits last season after helping to guide Sevilla to the Europa League crown after their 4-2 penalty shoot-out victory over Benfica.

A coach educator and goalkeeping scout with the national Spanish Federation, he had two spells with Espanyol Under-21s before spending the last three years with Sevilla’s first team.

“I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to work at a club that is growing at a rapid rate in the best league in the world,’’ declared Garcia. “All the information I’ve received about the city and how the club, chairman and manager work convinced me to come to Swansea.

“It was hard to leave Sevilla because it is such a good club with good people. But it’s a great opportunity for me to work in such a positive environment where I can develop and grow with the club. It’s an exciting challenge.’’

Garcia is renowned for the thoroughness of his opposition analysis and preparation work and received huge praise from Sevilla manager Unai Emery after their penalty shoot-out victory over Benfica in the Europa League final.

There was also a penalty shoot-out victory over Real Betis in the knockout stages.

“Javi has done a great job with the goalkeepers and his work with Beto (Seville goalkeeper) has been crucial,’’ declared Emery after the famous victory at Juventus Stadium.

“I’ve already studied videos of Michel Vorm, Gerhard Tremmel and Lukasz Fabianski,’’ added Garcia. “They are three top quality goalkeepers and I am looking forward to working with them.

“Each goalkeeper has his own characteristics. It’s up to me to model the training sessions and preparations to keep improving their performances on a consistent basis.’’

Swansea City would like to thank Adrian Tucker for his work and commitment over the last five years and wish him well in his next challenge.[/article]

The 24-year-old, who can play on either wing, has put pen-to-paper on a three year contract with the Cherries after turning down a new deal at Turf Moor.

The move will see Stanislas reunite with Eddie Howe, after the manager signed him during his first summer in charge of the Clarets in 2011.

Whilst Howe opted to return to the south coast just over a year later, Stanislas went on to spend three successful seasons in Lancashire, bowing out having made 32 appearances during the club’s incredible promotion-winning 2013/14 season.

The exciting attacking midfielder also arrives at the Goldsands Stadium with Premier League experience having progressed through the youth set-up with West Ham, and he also spent time on loan with Southend United at the end of 2008.[/article]

Wigan - Mike Pollitt (Goalkeeping Coach)

[article=http://www.wiganlatics.co.uk/news/article/14-06-25-pollitt-to-join-coaching-staff-1673984.aspx#P38wePTe3CxQmKWv.99]Mike Pollitt’s long association with the club is set to continue into its 10th year with the news that he has been appointed as first team goalkeeping coach at Wigan Athletic, replacing Phil Hughes.

The 42 year old, whose playing contract expires this week, was first signed from Rotherham United by Paul Jewell in 2005, and has worked under six different full-time managers at the DW, making 52 appearances during his time, and notching both an FA Cup Winners medal and a Carling Cup Runners Up medal in his time here.

But now he is looking forward to his new challenge.

“I had offers to keep playing,” he said. “But really to have an opportunity to begin my coaching career at a top Championship club, working with international goalkeepers, was too good a chance to miss and I’m delighted that the gaffer has shown such faith in me.

“It’s going to be a bit strange at first, changing in a different dressing room and having to coach former team mates, but it’s something I will have to get used to quickly, having MP on my top rather than the Number 12!

“This is the next stage of my career and I am fortunate to be given the chance. I’ve been in the game 25 years, worked under so many different coaches and I’m looking forward to being able to put that experience into use in creating my own training sessions. On top of that I’m finishing off my coaching badges and this is an amazing opportunity for me at a club I know so well and have been very happy at. I can’t wait to get started.

“Scott, Ali and Lee are fantastic keepers in their own right and we are blessed to have such quality in this department at the club. My job now is to keep them developing as players and for them to be sharp and ready to play, but it’ll be up to the gaffer who gets the nod come match day.”

On Mike’s appointment, Uwe Rosler said: “Mike has been a top goalkeeper with huge experience in the game and I think he will be a great coach.

“We talk about giving young players a chance and it should be the same for young coaches. Mike is a real student of the game and has absorbed so many ideas from the people he has worked with over the years and has some fantastic experience which he will now be able to pass on.

“He is a big character around the place, infectious, and I felt it was the perfect opportunity for him to join our coaching staff and for us to take a new direction.”

Speaking about outgoing coach Phil Hughes, Rosler said: “I would like to place on record my thanks to Phil for the job he did last season, a great professional who never gave less than his best. I’m confident he will soon be back on the touchline somewhere soon.”

For the record, Pollitt’s last appearance for Latics was against Bournemouth in the 2012-13 FA Cup Third Round. He was on the bench on eight occasions last season without making an appearance. [/article]

Bradford-born Tavernier spent the second-half of last season on loan at Rotherham United, winning promotion via the Play-Offs of Sky Bet League One for the South Yorkshire outfit and Latics manager Uwe Rosler is delighted to have made another quality addition to the squad.

“James is a player I have been tracking for a long time, dating back to my days at Brentford,” he explained.

“He proved last season what great potential he has by being part of a very successful Rotherham side throughout the season and also in the play-offs.

“He will bring great competition on that side of the field, he is still learning and, at just 22, I feel that we can provide the right sort of environment for him to grow and develop into a really important player for this club.”

Tavernier came through the ranks at Leeds United’s Academy before moving to St. James’ Park at the age of 17. He made just 11 appearances for the Magpies, including four UEFA Europa League appearances, whilst furthering his Football League experience during loan spells with Carlisle United, Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons and Shrewsbury Town, before joining Rotherham in November 2013.

He spent a very fruitful seven months in Yorkshire, helping the Millers win promotion to the Sky Bet Championship via the play-offs in the 2013-14 campaign, making 31 appearances in total, scoring five goals, including a double in a 2-1 home win over Bristol City.[/article]

"I had a wonderful time in London but now I'm looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga again. I'm not just coming back to Freiburg for nostalgic reasons. I've also come back because I've seen Freiburg develop extremely well in recent seasons. I want to do whatever I can to help the team, the coaching staff and the coach Christian Streich to ensure our Bundesliga status as quickly as possible next season."

Riether spent five years in the Freiburg first team before moving to VfL Wolfsburg in 2007, with whom he won the Bundesliga title in 2009. Brighton - Sammy Lee (Assistant Manager)[/article]

[article=http://www.seagulls.co.uk/news/article/club-statement-sammy-lee-1705624.aspx#17X6VdqxLQ5k2SBs.99]Brighton & Hove Albion are disappointed to announce that Sammy Lee - having agreed to join the club on Thursday - will not be taking up the position as assistant manager.

We understand he now intends to take a coaching position at Southampton - having been offered a job working with their new manager Ronald Koeman after it was announced that he had agreed to join Albion as assistant manager.

Chief executive Paul Barber commented, "It is extremely disappointing for the club, Sami Hyypia and those of us who worked hard to bring him here, that Sammy Lee has now reversed his decision after agreeing to become assistant manager.

"Nobody at our club or Bolton Wanderers, was aware of any interest from Southampton until several hours after we announced Sammy's appointment as our assistant manager. It's certainly not a situation any of us have come across before.

"Having already agreed his contract and terms with us to start work on Monday, we could have insisted on Sammy serving a notice period, but we all feel it would have been counterproductive to do so; and while it's incredibly frustrating for us we wish Sammy well.

"Our focus now is on working with Sami to help him recruit his assistant - while also supporting him to bring in the players he needs to improve the squad for the new season."

Sammy Lee said, "I was thrilled to be offered the job at Brighton and I was excited at the prospect of working with Sami Hyypia again - but, totally unexpectedly, I have been given an opportunity to work in the Premier League.

"I fully appreciate that this is not an ideal set of circumstances and I am very sorry for the inconvenience and any embarrassment my change of mind, after the announcement was made, has caused. However, at this stage of my coaching career, the opportunity to work again at the very top level of English football was not something I felt I could turn down.

"I hope that everyone at Brighton - including Tony Bloom, Sami Hyypia, Paul Barber and David Burke - and the club's fans can understand the difficult predicament I found myself in and why I made this decision.

"I would like to thank Tony, Sami, Paul and David for the opportunity to join Brighton and I genuinely wish them, the club and the fans the very best for the season ahead."

Barber added, "While it is very frustrating, we have a number of very good coaches who can step up and assist Sami, Nathan and Antti in the short term, while we work with Sami to bring in his number two."[/article]

Made a u-turn. Been offered a position with Southampton.

Riera is a proven marksman at La Liga level in Spain, where he began his career in the same Barcelona B squad as Jordi Gomez.

Uwe Rosler is thrilled to have netted his man, commenting on Riera’s arrival, he said: “He netted the majority of the goals for Osasuna last season and shone out in a difficult season for the club.

“I think our fans will like him; he is very direct and physical, good in the air, a real worker, but also has an eye for goal, scoring the majority of his goals inside the box – he has attracted the attention of many clubs and we are delighted he has agreed to join us.

“He is in the prime of his career and is physically and mentally ready to take the challenge of coming to England. He is definitely the type of player we have been missing in our squad.

“It was a complicated transfer and the chairman played a crucial role in getting the deal over the line. He is a proven goalscorer and we have got him at the right price and within our current wage structure in the Championship.”

Riera, who notched 13 goals in 37 league appearances last season, including a double in a 2-2 home draw with UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid, says he is delighted to make the move to the DW Stadium.

"I am really pleased to become a Wigan Athletic player," he said. "My friend Jordi Gomez spoke really highly of everyone here and that makes me excited to get started."[/article]

Snodgrass arrives from Norwich City for an undisclosed fee, with the midfielder signing a three-year contract with the Tigers.

The Club is pleased to have completed the signing of the 26-year-old, who can operate on either side of midfield, or in a more advanced attacking position, and poses a goal-scoring threat wherever he plays.

Snodgrass will join up with his new team-mates for the first time when the squad assembles for pre-season training next week and he is looking forward to taking the next step in a career that has already seen him make more than 350 senior appearances through spells with Livingston, Stirling Albion, Leeds United and Norwich.

“Having spoken to the owners and the manager here, and having seen the plans they have for this club, I was very keen to be a part of it all,” said Snodgrass.

“Once the fee was agreed between the two clubs, it all happened very quickly and everything the club has done to get the deal completed has been unbelievable.

“This is the start of an exciting new chapter for me and for my family and I just can’t wait to get started now.”[/article]
