Is it to do with financial year reports and/or FFP?

On a sidenote, a transfer trivial I just came across:

David Luiz - Chelsea (reportedly £32 million)

Paul Lopez - Tottenham (loan)
CrNSBshWAAIJHe9.jpg

[article]The 21-year-old has risen through the ranks of the Espanyol and has made 48 appearances for their first team since his full debut in 2014. Prior to that he played 35 times for Espanyol B.

Lopez has also been capped at Under-21 level by Spain and was named in the senior squad for a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina earlier this year.

He is also a familiar figure to Mauricio Pochettino from the manager’s time in Barcelona.

Lopez will wear the number 30 shirt.[/article]

Kyriakos Papadopoulos - RB Leipzig (loan)
CrLgNY6WAAAJ0y6.jpg

[article]Bayer Leverkusen defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos will spend the rest of the 2016-17 season on loan at RB Leipzig.

Papadopoulos will add Bundesliga experience to the newly promoted club having featured in the top flight 91 times since joining Schalke from Olympiacos in 2010.

The center back initially joined Leverkusen on loan for the 2014-15 season before his move was made permanent, but he has been moved on again in a season-long loan deal.

"He's a good winner of the ball, brings a good level of aggression and is also a good communicator. Both Bayer Leverkusen and Kyriakos met our terms financially so that we could make the loan happen," said RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick.[/article]

Not that RB Leipzig is any kind of football purgatory, but you wonder would could have been for Papadopulos, who was so highly rated a few years ago, if not for injuries. Rodgers almost bought him while he was injured, but we wisely decided to wait and see how he gets back.

Top 10 spending managers:
http://en.as.com/en/2016/09/01/album/1472723567_804612.html

1. José Mourinho - 1,270M euros
The Portuguese manager has been at clubs that have opened up kitties and warchests at his whim making him the number one manager for transfer outlay. Shevchenko joined Chelsea for 43.3 million euros and this was the biggest in his massive portfolio until this summer when Paul Pogba was signed for his new club United for the new world record fee of 105M euros. Interestingly, in his Champions League winning sides of Inter and Porto there were relatively little investment - especially in Portugal where Benni McCarthy (3.5m) topped the list.

2. Carlo Ancelloti - 1,030M euros
Over two decades as a manager, at seven clubs and with 74 buys that have included Bale and James at Madrid. At Chelsea he signed Torres from Liverpool for 58.5M euros, he brought Thiago Silva (42M) and Lucas (40M) to PSG and more recently Hummels and Renato to bayern for 35M each. Oh, and don't forget Nesta signing for Milan at 30.5M.

3. Manuel Pelligrini - 856.55M euros
Time at Real Madrid (when money was allowed to be spent!) and newly rich and ambitious Man City have given the Chilean a chance to enjoy the transfer market. His signings have included the 94 million euro world record for Cristiano Ronaldo and 65M for Kaká in Spain as well as De Bruyne, Sterling and Otamendi joining City for 74M, 62.5M and 44.6M respectively.

4. Arsene Wenger - 808.38M euros
Wenger has built up a reputation for not spending much money however at number 4 on the list this doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. In saying that, he has been at Arsenal since 2003. In that time his biggest signings have been Özil (47M), Xhaka (45M) and Alexis (42.5M). Balancing the books is something his shareholders have enjoyed with players like Overmars (40M to Barça) and Anelka (35M to Madrid) leaving the club while still in their prime.

5. Sir Alex Ferguson - 788.85M euros
27 years in the Old Trafford hotseat saw the Scotsman rack up several big names. His first signing for Manchester United was Viv Anderson in 1987 for 300,00 euros from Arsenal and his last Wilfried Zaha for 11.75M. Between them 94 others that included Rio Ferdinand (46M), Verón (42.6M) and Berbatov (38).

6. Pep Guardiola - 758.3M euros
One of the most admired managers in world football took over the helm at Barcelona with Messi, Xavi and Iniesta already in place (what fee they could have commanded if signed would have changed this list considerably!) Nevertheless, Pep brought Ibrahimovic (69.5M), Villa (40M), Alves (35.5M) and Cesc (34M) to the Camp Nou. He has since spent 55.6M on Stones and 50M on Sané in his brief introduction at Manchester City.

7. Claudio Ranieri - 756.88M euros
The reigning English champions' manager did the miraculous with Leicester on a relative shoe-string budget but Ranieri has not been afraid to splash the cash in his managerial career to date. Among the 87 names that he's signed James (45M) and Falcao (43M) top the money list and were both taken to Monaco. In England, his most recent expenditure happened at the end of the transfer window with Islam Slimani joining the Foxes for 30 million.

8. Rafa Benitez - 667.19M euros
At Anfield the Spaniard won many a Liverpool heart by bringing in the likes of Fernando Torres, at a fee of 38 million euros but he outdid that transfer - in terms of cost anyway - when at Napoli when he brought in Higuaín from Real Madrid at 39M. He had just sold Cavani to PSG for over 60 million!

9. Roberto Mancini - 657.94M euros
The fashionable Italian had the petro-dollars in his hand after joining Manchester City and used them to buy Agüero (40M), Dzeko (37M) and Yaya Toué (30M). While on the sidelines at Inter he also snapped up Kondogbia for 31M euros.

10. Louis Van Gaal - 643.22M euros
Currently without a club, the ex-manager of Ajax, Barcelona and Manchester United - among others - has spent his fair share in the market including a then-record 75M euros for Ángel Di Maria at Old Trafford. Proof that spending big doesn't always bring success.

ndidi-4-3280-3499860_613x460.jpg

[article]Leicester City can today confirm that an agreement has been reached with KRC Genk for the permanent transfer of Wilfred Ndidi.

The Nigerian international midfielder, 20, has agreed personal terms, undergone a medical and will sign a contract to June 2022 once a work permit has officially been granted. He will wear City’s no.25 shirt.

The Foxes beat off considerable competition to secure Ndidi’s signature – the tall, combative central midfielder having won a host of admirers across Europe for his performances both in the Belgian Pro League and in the UEFA Europa League, where he helped Genk progress to this season’s knockout stages as Group F winners.

Wilfred makes the move to the Premier League after two years in Belgian football, having joined Genk on his 18th birthday following a successful trial with the club’s academy. Originally spotted playing for Nathaniel Boys in an open trial in the Nigerian city of Lagos, he started out as a central defender, before adapting superbly to a defensive midfield role.

At international level, Ndidi represented Nigeria at Under-17 and Under-20 level, before earning his first senior call-up in October 2015. He has played twice alongside City forward Ahmed Musa for the Super Eagles this season, including an appearance against an Algeria team containing Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani.

Ndidi is expected to complete the formalities of his move to Leicester City later this week.[/article]

The Belgium league is definitely worth a look at.

A skillful and direct winger, the 19-year-old described his transfer to the Blues as a ‘dream move’.

Lookman said: “It feels great to be an Everton player.

“As soon as I heard about Everton’s interest I knew this would be the right place for me.

“Everton has a big history and I was also attracted by the manager.

“When you look at what he did at Southampton, and what he does with young players in terms of developing them, that was a big attraction.

“It was great playing in The Championship last season and for the last six months in League One but I feel like I’m ready to make the step up to the Premier League.”

Happy to welcome his latest recruit to Goodison Park, manager Ronald Koeman said: “Ademola is a big talent and, at 19 years old, he has a big future in the game. I’m really happy that we’ve been able to bring him here to the Club.

This kid could be the real deal. I mentioned him about a year ago when everyone was talking about Dembele (who signed for Celtic) and I suggested this kid has more potential.

I've no doubt about it. I think he might even get some decent game-time this season, he'd be a great foil for Lukaku.

Timothee Kolodziejczak - Monchengladbach(reportedly €7.5m)

Clement Lenglet - Seville (reportedly €5m)

[article]Sevilla have announced the signing of defender Clement Lenglet from Nancy and sale of Timothee Kolodziejczak to Borussia Monchengladbach.

A statement on Sevilla’s official website confirms Lenglet has penned a four-and-a-half year contract with the club, in a deal reportedly worth around €5m.
