Hakan Calhanoglu - AC Milan (€20 million plus add ons up to €4 million)

[article]The Rossoneri continue this summer of signings with the sixth new player to join the club. After Mateo Musacchio, Franck Kessie, Ricardo Rodriguez, André Silva and Fabio Borini, the duo Fassone-Mirabelli hand over to Vincenzo Montella's squad Hakan Calhanoglu. Here is the official statement:

Name: Hakan. Surname: Calhanoglu. This is not an average player. His technique, his shooting skills and tactical knowledge make him one of the most interesting talents in Europe. The class of 1994 former Bayer Leverkusen player - born in Mannheim, Germany, but of Turkish origin - is a modern No 10, who can play in the hole, down both flanks or as shadow striker. Hakan is a dynamic player, capable of picking up the tempo playing vertically. He surely is not the player that goes looking for the easy pass which makes him unpredictable and most importantly decisive (since 2013/14, only Max Kruse - with 282 in 121 appearances - has created more chances for his teammates than Calhanoglu, in Bundesliga - 253, in 111 matches -). But not only this, as the young Turkish talent is a great free-kick taker who looks up to Juninho Pernambucano and David Beckham... the results are on his side. He manages to give the ball unpredictable trajectories to surprise the opponents' goalkeeper. A real talent, who has arrived at AC Milan looking to become an ace.

Hakan started his youth career in Karlsruhe's academy, making his senior team debut in 2011. Over the first two seasons, he made 55 appearances scoring 11 goals, attracting the attention of several big clubs. In the end, Hamburg HSV won out and signed the young Turkish talent, who in the 2013-2014 season confirmed his club had made a great deal ending the spell with 38 appearances and 11 goals. Especially with his piece of magic from 41 metres on 22 February 2014 which gave Hamburg the win in the match against Borussia Dortmund. Not only goals, though, as Hakan has shown great vision and great skill with the ball. All this does not go unnoticed and Roger Schmidt (manager of Bayer Leverkusen) decides to hand him over the keys of Bayer's midfield. In two and a half seasons (he hasn't played the last four months because of a preliminary agreement he had signed and called off with Trabzonspor, in 2011) he recorded 87 appearances with 20 goals between the Bundes Liga and the DFB-Pokal [German Cup, ed.]. Calhanoglu has also been noticed by the coach of Turkey and was called up with his national team to take part in the 2016 European Championships in France.[/article]

Leverkusen losing quite a couple of stars. First Toprak, now Calhanoglu. Meanwhile, AC Milan's impressive transfer window dealings continues.

Michael Keane - Everton (£30 million inclusive of potential add ons)

[article]
Michael Keane revealed he has come to Everton to learn from one of the best in fellow defender and Toffees manager Ronald Koeman, having completed his move from Burnley to Goodison for a fee that could rise to a Club record-equalling £30million.

The central defender has agreed a five-year contract with the Blues to the end of June 2022.

The 24-year-old became Everton’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Jordan Pickford – in a Club record deal for a fee of £25million potentially rising to £30million – Dutch international midfield player Davy Klaassen from Ajax for €27million, former Barcelona striker and Spain Under-21 international Sandro Ramirez and Henry Onyekuru, the Belgian Pro League’s joint-top goalscorer last season who will spend the 2017/18 season on loan at Anderlecht.

With his new manager having been a European Cup winner with PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona and European championship winner with Holland, Keane believes he could not have come to a better place to continue his career development under Koeman’s watchful eye and he also paid tribute to Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright and Director of Football Steve Walsh for their respective roles in making his big move happen.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be at Everton, a fantastic football club with passionate fans and a great tradition and I can’t wait to come into training tomorrow to meet all the lads,” Keane said.

“First and foremost, the manager was a big factor in me coming to the Club. He played in my position when he was a world-class player for a great Barcelona side and a great Dutch side and the style of football he likes to play will suit me, I believe.

“I watched a lot of Everton last season and I believe I really suit how the team likes to play. I feel like this is a great place to come and continue my development as a player.

“He’s convinced me that he can still improve me in certain areas of my game. I’m only 24 which, for a centre-half in the Premier League, is relatively young. I’ve still got a long way to go and I know this and hopefully under his guidance I’ll keep improving.

“You always want to play for a manager who believes in you. I wanted to come somewhere I was wanted by the staff, players and fans as well. I feel like Everton is the perfect match.

“I’ve also got to say thanks to the Chairman Bill Kenwright - he’s been absolutely fantastic getting the deal through. I also spoke with Steve Walsh, who I knew from my time at Leicester four or five years ago, and they really convinced me that this was the place to come and that Everton is the perfect club for me.”

For Koeman, bringing Keane to Everton was one of his priorities of the summer.

“Michael was high among the players we wanted to bring to Everton this summer and I'm delighted he is here at the Club,” the Everton manager said.

"We knew there would be competition from other clubs but Michael believes in the ambition of Everton and what we want to do and this is the perfect moment for him to come.

"I believe there is much more to come from Michael and that's what makes his signing really exciting for me - we will see his development as a player along with the progression overall within the Club.

"It's another really positive sign of the direction the Club is moving in. He's 24 years old, his best years are to come, he's an England international, too, and I couldn't be more pleased that he's now a Blue."

Keane joins Everton on the back of an impressive 2016/17 season with Burnley, when he made 35 Premier League appearances, displaying form which earned him international recognition with England.

The 6ft 3in centre-back made his senior debut for the Three Lions against Germany in March and earned his second cap in the World Cup qualifying victory over Lithuania days later.

Keane spent three seasons at Turf Moor, having made the switch from his first club, Manchester United, in September 2014.

During his second season with Burnley in 2015/16, he helped the Clarets win the Championship title and his performances secured him a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

Coming through Manchester United’s academy, Keane made five first-team appearances for the Red Devils, enhancing his football experience with three separate loan spells in the Championship with Leicester City, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers respectively, before his permanent move to Burnley in 2014.

In all competitions, Keane has so far made 161 club appearances, scoring 13 goals.

Bersant Celina - Ipswich (loan)

[article]
Town have pipped a string of Championship clubs to the signing of Manchester City’s highly-rated Bersant Celina.

The 20-year-old wideman has joined the Club on a season long loan from the Premier League giants and has travelled to Ireland with the first-team squad for a week long training camp.

He becomes the fifth signing of an increasingly busy summer for Blues, with Jordan Spence, Joe Garner, Emyr Huws and Tom Adeyemi having arrived at Portman Road in recent weeks.

Bersant was at Stromsgodset in Norway as a youngster before catching the eye of the City scouts and he joined the club’s Academy at 16.

He progressed through the youth ranks at the Etihad and was handed his Premier League debut in a 3-1 defeat by Leicester in February 2016.

He spent last season on loan at FC Twente, becoming a regular in their line-up in the Dutch top flight.

Capped by Norway at youth level up to U21, Bersant switched his international allegiance to his native Kosovo. He is capped at senior level and is seen as part of their national side going forward.

He arrives at Portman Road having signed a long term contract at City that keeps him there until 2020.

Jamie Proctor - Rotherham (reportedly £75k)

Rotherham United have signed Bolton Wanderers striker Jamie Proctor for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with the Millers.

Boss Paul Warne had promised to strengthen his attacking options during the close season, with Proctor joining up with the likes of former team mate David Ball in what could be a new look frontline

The Preston-born target man started his career with his home town club where his form earned him a move to Premier League Swansea City.

After a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town, he switched to Crawley Town in search of regular first-team football and played 49 times in his first season with the club.

After notching 15 goals in his 18 month stint with Crawley, he joined Fleetwood Town in 2014.

Spells at Bradford City and Bolton Wanderers followed, and last season he enjoyed a loan spell with Carlisle United.

He now moves to the AESSEAL New York Stadium on a two-year deal.

Terence Kongolo - Monaco (reportedly €15 million)

A pity that the title winning Feyernoord team is breaking up. First Karsdorp and now Kongolo

Elia leaving too, Kuyt retiring :(

Lee Bowyer - Assistant Manager (Charlton)
Johnnie Jackson - First Team Player/Coach (Charlton)

[article]Charlton Athletic can now confirm Karl Robinson’s backroom staff, with Lee Bowyer appointed as Assistant Manager, while Johnnie Jackson will take up a role as First Team Player/Coach.

Bowyer initially joined the club in January on a temporary basis as Assistant First-Team Coach but now steps up to work alongside Robinson permanently as his assistant.

Jackson, meanwhile, will take on a coaching role for the first time, while continuing his role as club captain and a registered player.

Valley boss Robinson said: “I think it's important that there are Charlton people in the building and Lee Bowyer and Johnnie Jackson are two people who know exactly what this club is about.

"They're very good at what they do and the players love them both. I know Jacko will be a top coach and will, one day, become a great manager and I'm sure Bow will do the same. It's the first step for them and hopefully they'll flourish and we can be successful together."

Former Addicks youth product and England international Bowyer played 58 times for the club, scoring 14 goals before joining Leeds United in 1996 for a then-record fee for a teenager.

He went on to enjoy a hugely-successful career at the top level of English football, going on to represent West Ham United, Newcastle United and Birmingham City before finishing his playing career with Ipswich Town in 2012.

After spending time at Watford, coaching the Hornets’ development squad alongside his former Leeds teammate Harry Kewell, he now returns to the club where his career began.

Bowyer said: “It feels great to be asked to do this and to work alongside Karl and I’m really looking forward to it.

“It was an easy decision to make. We worked closely towards the end of last season so I know the ins and the outs and it’s felt a bit like a homecoming because there are a few faces who are still here from when I was a kid.

“I have a lot more experience now that I can pass onto the lads. I’ve worked under a lot of good people in my career and Charlton is where it all started, so it’s a bit of a fairytale for me.”

Meanwhile, Jackson announced at the end of last season that he would be moving into a coaching role with the club and that 2017/18 would be his last season as a player.

The midfielder first arrived in SE7 on loan in February, before joining permanently five months later, and quickly cemented his place as a firm fans’ favourite, captaining his side to the League One title in 2011/12.

In total, Jackson has made 261 appearances for the club, scoring 55 goals and he hopes to add to that tally as he draws his career to a close in 2017/18.

“Over a long season, there will be a time and a place when I can still be utilised and I still feel as if I have some miles left in the tank,” he explained.

“I’ll be training every day and will still be match fit to ensure I will be an asset when I’m needed.

“I’m excited to take on this new role and experience the other side of things. It’s always where I’ve seen my future lie and I’m delighted that I can begin that journey at this club.”

Other backroom changes see the departure of Head of Sports Science Carl Serrant, with Joshua Hornby and Ian Jones stepping up to become First-Team Lead Sports Scientist/ Fitness Coach and First-Team Strength & Conditioning Coach respectively.

Meanwhile, First-Team Coach Chris O’Loughlin also left the club following the end of the 2016/17 season.[/article]

Adam Ounas - Napoli (reportedly €10 million plus add ons up to €2 million)

[article]
Napoli have officially signed winger Adam Ounas from Girondins de Bordeaux. “Welcome to Napoli, Adam!”

President Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed the news via Twitter, as did Bordeaux with a statement.

The 20-year-old Algeria international put pen to paper this evening after undergoing a medical and will immediately begin pre-season training with Maurizio Sarri’s squad.

It is reported the move cost €10m plus another €2m in bonuses if the team qualifies for the Champions League.

“I am very happy, forza Napoli!” he told fans outside the hotel.

Paul-José Mpoku - Standard Liege (reportedly £2.2 million)

George Boyd - Sheff Wed (free transfer)

[article]
Sheffield Wednesday have completed their first capture of the summer by signing experienced winger George Boyd on a free transfer.

The Scotland international moves to Hillsborough after three years with Premier League side Burnley.

The 31-year-old joins up with his new team mates today as the Owls begin their pre-season programme in preparation for the 2017/18 campaign.

Boyd began his career with Stevenage and after impressing in the youth ranks, made a seamless transition into the professional game.

Making his debut at the age of 17 for Boro, the midfielder went on to become a regular at the Lamex Stadium.

In total Boyd made 126 appearances and scored 31 goals for Stevenage before moving on to Peterborough in January 2007 for a then record Football Conference transfer fee of £260,000.

Boyd’s career went from strength to strength at London Road, where he became a fans’ favourite in his six years with the club.

The winger was pivotal in Posh’s back-to-back promotions as Peterborough rose from League Two to the Championship.

His impressive form during those two promotion campaigns saw him earn a place in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 PFA Team of the Year.

During his time at Peterborough, Boyd moved to Nottingham Forest for a short loan spell which yielded one goal from six appearances in 2010.

After 297 appearances and 75 goals for Posh, the winger moved to Hull on loan midway through their 2012/13 Championship promotion charge.

The switch became permanent in May 2013 after Hull secured second spot, with Boyd scoring four goals in 13 appearances, while scooping a Championship Player of the Month award along the way.

After making a further 29 appearances for the Tigers, Boyd proved an instant hit at Turf Moor with his high work rate and endeavours endearing him to the Clarets’ faithful.

Although his efforts couldn’t prevent Burnley beating the drop, Boyd featured 35 times in the 2014/15 Premier League campaign and scored five goals, including the club’s Goal of the Season against Manchester City.

Five goals and five assists from 47 appearances in the Championship helped Burnley bounce immediately back to the top flight in 2015/16.

And last time out, Sean Dyche’s side successfully maintained their Premier League status in 2016/17 as Boyd made a further 39 appearances and scored two goals, including a crucial winner in the clash with Stoke in April 2017.

Lex Immers - ADO Den Haag (free transfer)

[article]
ADO Den Haag have confirmed the signing of Lex Immers on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old was without a club after leaving Club Brugge with the intention of moving closer to his family in the Netherlands.

On Monday evening, ADO den Haag confirmed Immers return to the club on a two-year contract. The midfielder will wear the number ten shirt in the Kyocera Stadion.

Immers came through the ADO Den Haag Academy and made his first team debut in 2007 before moving to Feyenoord five years later. After 100 league appearances in Rotterdam he left for Cardiff City before joining Club Brugge in January.

Tammy Abraham - Swansea (loan)

[article]Abraham becomes the Swans’ second signing of the summer, following Dutch keeper Erwin Mulder to the club.

Abraham, who signed a five-year deal with his parent club today, will link up with his new team-mates during the club’s tour of America.

The 19-year-old has just returned from international duty with England Under-21s at the European Championships in Poland, helping them reach the semi-final along with current Swan Alfie Mawson.

He has made two Premier League appearances for Chelsea, for whom he joined 12 years ago.

Full of potential, his loan spell at Championship side Bristol City last season paid dividends as he scored 26 goals in 48 appearances.

But now he looks to get considerable Premier League game-time under his belt with Paul Clement’s side, who are preparing for a seventh consecutive campaign in the top flight.[/article]

Connor Mahoney - Bournemouth (compensation fee)

[article]
AFC Bournemouth have signed winger Connor Mahoney from Blackburn Rovers.

The 20-year-old, who has represented England at under-17 and under-18 level, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Vitality Stadium and will join the club’s under-23 squad.

Mahoney’s contract at Ewood Park expired at the end of June, and the club are continuing to discuss satisfactory compensation with Blackburn.

Starting his career at Accrington Stanley, Mahoney made his debut in August 2013, aged just 16.

Four months later he earned a move to Blackburn and made 21 appearances, the majority of which came from the substitutes’ bench.

“I think I’m ready to step up and challenge myself,” said Mahoney.

“I’m a young, hungry player, who wants to attack and get past my man.

“I like to get fans off their seat and I’m trying to make my way in the game.

“Working with Eddie Howe and his coaching staff will be a dream come true, so to be able to do that day in, day out will get the best out of me.”

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Connor to the football club.

“He is a player we have very high hopes for. He has a lot of potential and hopefully it will be a really good deal for both him and us.

“He put in a number of eye-catching appearances for Blackburn in a short space of time at the end of last season, so we quickly evaluated the situation and made a move for him.

“There’s a lot more to come from him and we will look to develop his talent.”

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said: “The club has a good track record of developing young players and we believe this is the right place for Connor to continue to progress.

“We see a lot of potential in him. Connor is a very good player, with great enthusiasm and a first-class attitude, and has all the attributes to have a bright future at the club.”

Kevin Diks - Feyenoord (loan)

[article]
Kevin Diks will wear the Feyenoord jersey next season. The 20-year-old, who plays on the right side of defence, joins the club with immediate effect on a loan deal from Italian outfit Fiorentina. Diks came through his medical on Monday and will put his signature to a contract on Tuesday.

The Dutch Under 21s international adds to Feyenoord’s defensive options after the loss of Rick Karsdorp to AS Roma last week. ‘I’m happy we have quickly been able to compensate for Rick’s departure with Kevin’s arrival. We’ve been following him since he broke through at Vitesse. With his defensive and attacking qualities and his passion he can add value to our squad,’ said technical director Martin van Geel.

Dika’s arrival means that Feyenoord again has two options at right back. ‘That’s nice, because our aim is to have two players for every position,’ said Van Geel. ‘Kevin will have to compete with Bart Nieuwkoop for the right-back position.’

Diks spent a large part of his youth at the Vitesse academy before making his Eredivisie debut in August 2014. His made the switch to Fiorentina in the summer of 2016, but was loaned back to Vitesse in the second half of the season. Diks won the KNVB Cup with the Arnhem club at the end of April.

Matthias Ginter - Borussia Mönchengladbach (reportedly €17 million)

[article]
Gladbach are set to sign Germany international Matthias Ginter from Borussia Dortmund.

Matthias Ginter is set to join Borussia Mönchengladbach from Borussia Dortmund later today, subject to a medical. The World Cup winner should be introduced in a press conference later today.

Ginter began his career as a youth player as SC Freiburg. He made his Bundesliga debut for the club aged 18 and went on to make 81 appearances for SC Freiburg, scoring five goals. Two years later, Matthias Ginter joined Borussia Dortmund. He has made 102 appearances for Dortmund in three seasons, scoring four goals and winning the DFB Cup and the German Super Cup. Ginter became a World Champion with Germany at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The 23-year old has 14 international caps. He also won a silver medal with Germany at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro last summer.
[/article]

Luiz Gustavo - Marseille (reportedly €10 million)

[article]
This second Marseille signing should please the fans. Experience, versatility and strength of character are his main assets.

Though not well-known in France, Luiz Gustavo Dias, 29 years old (born in Pindamonhangaba on 23 July 1987) is a Brazilian international player (42 caps). This lean midfielder (1.87m, 78 kg) has, amongst other things, won the Confederations Cup (2013) and played in one World Cup (2014). In terms of clubs it was essentially at Bayern Munich between January 2011 and June 2013 that his trophy cabinet was filled up with one Champions League victory (2013), the German Super Cup (2012) and the Bundesliga championship title (2013). He was also a finalist in the Champions League in 2012 as well as in the German Cup in 2012 which he also won with Wolfsburg (2013-2017) in 2015.

Passing through Hoffenheim (2007-2011) where he quietly arrived from Club de Regatas (Brazil) in 2007, the former Bayern teammate of Franck Ribéry and Daniel Van Buyten, after spending 10 years in the Bundesliga with over 250 matches and almost 30 Champions League games, has built a solid reputation as an aggressive and technical defensive midfielder. A player of many positions, for example a centre back at Wolfsburg, he should certainly win over the fans at the Orange Vélodrome. Like a Swiss knife, Gustavo can and does do everything. He is a measure of experience and an insurance against any risks for his new coach, Rudi Garcia.b

The Orange Vélodrome will not be totally new for Luiz Gustavo who beat OM with Bayern (0-2) in the old stadium on 28 March 2012 in the first leg of the quarter final of the Champions League (2012).

Florian Lejeune - Newcastle (£8.7 million)

[article]
Defender Florian Lejeune has become Newcastle United’s second signing of the summer transfer window, after joining from SD Eibar.

Twenty-six-year-old Lejeune has put pen to paper on a five-year-deal with the Magpies, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2022.

The Paris-born centre half is the second player to check in at St. James’ Park this summer, following the permanent arrival of winger Christian Atsu in May.

Lejeune began his career in his homeland with the Centre de Formation de Paris, before spending his formative years with Racing Club de France, Beziers, Sete and Adge.

He made the move to then-Ligue 2 club Istres in 2009, before moving on to Spanish side Villarreal two years later, where he progressed from the Yellow Submarine’s B team into their first team squad.

After a loan spell back in his homeland with Stade Brestois, Lejeune joined Girona, where he impressed, sealing a move to Manchester City in the summer of 2015.

A further loan at former club Girona followed, before the former France Under-20 international joined Eibar permanently in July 2016.

“I’m very happy to have signed. Newcastle United is a big club, and I’m very happy to be here,” said Lejeune.

“When you have a manager like Rafa Benitez who wants you, you are very happy to come. Since I’ve been in touch with the manager, it was an easy decision for me to come here.”

Manager Rafa Benitez added: “I would like to welcome Florian to Newcastle United. He is a player that has done very well this year in Spain. I have known about him for a while, since he began playing for Villarreal.

"He has progressed a lot as a player in the last few years and I know he will give us something different at the back - he is good with both feet, he's big and he's good in the air also.

"If he settles well into English football then I am sure he will be a success and will give us a lot of competition in this area.”

Michael Duff - Burnley (U23s Professional Development Phase Coach)

[article]
Michael Duff has been appointed as the new Senior Professional Development Phase Coach for the club’s U23s.

The former Clarets’ defender, who managed the U18s last season following his retirement as a player, steps up into his new role following the recent departure of Michael Jolley.

And Duff, 39, admitted the opportunity to coach the Development Squad came earlier than he expected.

He said: “It was a bit of a shock with Mike leaving to go and take a job in Sweden, so there was an opportunity to step up which the club have asked me to do and I’m happy to do.

“It’s a nice progression into a new career and it probably happened a little bit quicker than I expected, but it’s a career path I want to take and I eventually want to end up managing, but I’m in a good place at the minute.

“I’m learning from a good manager, with the new category status at the Academy and going into the better games programme, playing against better players rather than just friendlies all the time.

“And there’s obviously some of the lads who I worked with last year moving up, so the continuity is good.”

Duff, who began his new role on the Academy’s return to training yesterday (Monday), added: “I learned a lot last year about how to deal with other people and which (training) sessions work and which don’t.

“I really enjoyed it and it just seems to sit that the club have asked me to move up and I’m more than happy to do it, working with professional players and the different demands.”

The Development Squad will this season compete in the Professional Development League for the first time, following the Academy being granted Category Two status.

That will pit the players against rival teams in a regional division, rather than the ad-hoc friendlies organised for the Development Squad last season.

And Duff feels that will provide another stepping stone towards the ultimate goal of progressing towards first team football.

He added: “I think it’s good and I think it’s important because friendlies are friendlies and however much you can try and dress it up, the players see them as that.

“Now, there are three points at stake so it’s a different pressure on the players and different expectations.

“Ultimately, it’s still about development, but part of the development now is about learning how to win a game of football so they’ll get asked different questions.”

Michael will be assisted by Andy Farrell, who also steps up from the U18s.

Thomas Ince - Huddersfield (reportedly £8.5 million with add ons up to £2.5 million)

[article]Huddersfield Town has today completed the signing of Tom Ince from Sky Bet Championship club Derby County.

The 25 year-old attacker moves for a fee that will remain undisclosed at the request of Derby, putting pen to paper on a contract that runs until the summer of 2020. At that point, Huddersfield Town has the option of extending his contract for a further season.

With 75 goals in 260 career appearances, mainly from the right wing, Tom has had either scored or assisted 55 goals in his 115 appearances for the Rams ahead of his move to West Yorkshire.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“Everybody in England knows that Tom has high-quality; he has been one of the best players in the Sky Bet Championship for many years now. He scores goals, creates them for others and is always a threat when he’s on the pitch, so I’m very happy to welcome him to the Club today.

“To have played over 250 games at just 25 years old is not normal; it’s great experience for a player who still has lots of space to improve.

“I have spoken to Tom and he has a massive desire to come to Huddersfield Town and play in the Premier League. He has had a taste of the division for two short spells and he is desperate to show everyone that he belongs in the top division. I think he can be a big player for us.”[/article]

Alex Neil - Preston North End (Manager)

[article]Preston North End are delighted to confirm the appointment of Alex Neil as manager on a rolling 12-month contract.

The 36-year-old will be officially unveiled at a press conference at Deepdale late on Wednesday afternoon.

The Scot will officially take up the role on Thursday, taking a watching brief at Friday’s friendly against Bamber Bridge, before taking charge of training once the team head on their training camp in Ireland.

The club’s current first team staff of first team coach Steve Thompson, goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly, fitness coach Tom Little and physio Matt Jackson will all remain at the club as part of the new management team.

Speaking about becoming the new Lilywhites boss Alex said: “I’ve looked at this opportunity and seen that the club has made progress for four years running and I am looking forward to trying to continue that progress.

“It is a really good challenge for me. I have been involved in a lot of big games in a short space of time and hopefully we can be involved in a lot more big games here at Preston North End.

“The ultimate aim for any club in the Championship is to try and get promoted at some stage. The club has been stable in the Championship for the last two years and you never know what is going to happen in the next year or two, but we want to try and build a side and a squad that is capable of competing at the top end of the Championship and if we can get a bit of momentum, you never know where you can end up.

“There will be players who are quite pleased that everyone is on a level field and there will be players who feel they have already shown their worth to the previous manager, but the good thing for every one of them is the fact that I am coming in fresh. I will judge every one fairly and they will all have to try and impress me to make sure they are getting themselves into the team for the first game of the season. I think that is refreshing. I think it is something for me and them to look forward to.”[/article]

Matt Gill - Norwich (U23s Manager)

[article]
Norwich City are delighted to confirm the appointment of Matt Gill as the Club’s Under-23s manager.

Gill takes on the role having served as interim boss of the Canaries’ Development Squad for the second half of last season following the departure of Dmitri Halajko.

Taking over from Halajko in February, he played a prominent role in guiding City’s youngsters to the semi-finals of both the Premier League International Cup and Premier League Cup.

A former Canaries player who made 16 appearances between 2009 and 2011, Gill exclusively told Norwich City TV: "I really enjoyed the experience of last season so I’m really chuffed.

"I worked with various age groups last year which gives me a really good knowledge of all the boys. It’s a great job for myself, being my hometown club, so I’m looking forward to getting stuck in."

Academy Manager Richard Money added: "Matt has a good way with the players and he’s proven to be a very adept coach.

"Wherever you can, whenever possible, you need to try to promote from within. He did a really good job in the interim period last year and we’re looking forward to what he can do in the coming season."

Arouna Koné - Sivasspor (free transfer)

[article]
Arouna Kone has signed for Turkish side Sivasspor, the club have announced.

Kone was released by Everton after his contract expired at the end of last month.

The 33-year-old had been keen to stay in the Premier League, but has today agreed a two-year deal with Sivasspor who have been promoted to Turkey’s top flight.

Kone was a £6m signing for Roberto Martinez in the summer of 2013 and signed a three year deal.

Mid-way through the 2015-16 campaign, Kone triggered a 12 month extension.

However, Martinez’s sacking placed his Everton future in doubt as Ronald Koeman went about making sweeping changes.

Kone came close to joining Crystal Palace on deadline day in January but the move collapsed late on.

The Ivorian only made nine appearances under Koeman and was not offered fresh terms at the end of the season.

I hate this thread.
It fucking flicks about all over the place when I open it. I can never tell where it starts from.

Love this thread. Excellent work Binny!

As for Celina, there was a lot of controversy over here when he was playing for the Norwegian U-21s, and claimed he should have been a regular for the first team. Ended up playing for Kosovo after loads of moaning.

Kasey Palmer - Huddersfield (loan)

[article]
Kasey Palmer, one of Town’s promotion-winning team of 2017, is back at the Club!

The 20 year-old attacking midfielder has put pen to paper on a loan deal that will see him officially join from fellow Premier League side Chelsea until 30 June 2018.

Londoner Kasey will be a popular sight back at the John Smith’s Stadium after becoming a genuine fans’ favourite during his season-long loan in Town’s promotion campaign.

After scoring with his second ever touch in a Town shirt as a substitute in the 2-1 opening day home win over Brentford in August 2016, Kasey went on to grab a total of five goals and three assists in 17 starts and nine substitute appearances before suffering an apparently season-ending hamstring injury in the home win over Leeds United in February 2017.

However, he made a surprise return to the squad for the Wembley Play-Off Final against Reading, playing the final 22 minutes as a substitute in the successful quest for promotion to the Premier League. Had Christopher Schindler not netted the winning spot-kick, Kasey was next up for the Terriers!

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“I’m very happy to have Kasey back at the Club. As we know from last season, he’s a very talented English player with high potential.

“Just as importantly, he is a fantastic personality too. He has real desire and hunger to be as good as he can be, but he’s also very humble. This is the best and most exciting mix that a player can have as he strives to become an excellent Premier League player.

“I know he feels he has unfinished business after his injury last season and I think that determination will be a big plus for him and the team this season.”

That's a 2nd Chelsea player out on loan to a PL club so far. How frustrating is it (as a fan) to see the club producing capable youngsters only to deny them the chance of breaking through into the first team squad (esp. when it is strong enough position to integrate youth players into the team)?

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“As our fans will have seen during the Play-Off Final, Danny brings a lot of quality to any team he plays for. His way of playing – his aggressiveness, tenacity and athleticism – fits our ‘Terriers Identity’ perfectly.

“It is not usual that a player of Danny’s ability is available on a free transfer, so there was understandably a lot of interest from clubs.

“When we spoke, it was clear that he wants to prove himself at the highest level in England and that he had a real desire to come and play for Huddersfield Town. He is a terrific character and will totally fit in with our group.

“Together with our existing players and the arrival of Aaron Mooy, Danny offers us really good competition for places in central midfield.”[/article]

This one could be an interesting acquisition. His stats looked decent when I was looking at some whoscored screens last time. One of the top 3 to 4 strikers under 25 in the top 5 European leagues in shot attempts in the 18-yard box (excluding penalties).

Hmm, no idea who that guy is and had to look it up. Damn, he's big. Weird that Porto would take a big unit like him, seems unlike their style - I suppose his lack of games there showed that? Huddersfield are so murdering us on corners next season.

Brendan Galloway - Sunderland (loan)

[article]Sunderland have completed the signing of Brendan Galloway from Everton on a season-long loan.

The versatile defender, who can play centre-half and left-back, has become Simon Grayson’s first signing at the Stadium of Light this summer.

Formerly at MK Dons, Galloway made a name for himself aged just 15, when he became League One’s youngster first-team player ever in November 2011, making his debut against Nantwich Town.

Impressive displays for MK saw him earn himself a move to Goodison Park, where he has since made 20 Premier League appearances after being handed his inaugural senior bow away at West Ham United during the 2014-15 campaign.

A former England under-17s, under-18s and under-19s international, the 21-year-old furthered his development last term when he joined up with West Bromwich Albion.

Galloway made five appearances in all competitions for Tony Pulis’ side, and now the Zimbabwe-born starlet has linked up with Grayson’s side ahead of the 2017-18 Sky Bet Championship season. [/article]

[article]Huddersfield Town has today completed the permanent signing of defender Scott Malone from Fulham.

The 26 year-old left back joins the Terriers from Sky Bet Championship side Fulham for a fee that will remain undisclosed at the request of the Cottagers.

Malone has put pen to paper on a three year contract, with Huddersfield Town having the option to extend the deal by a further season in 2020.

Scott will be a familiar name to most Town fans after a standout year for the London club, which resulted in him being named in both the EFL and PFA’s Championship Teams of the Year as Fulham reached the Play-Off semi-finals.

An attack-minded full back, Scott also got on the scoresheet at the John Smith’s Stadium for his club last season.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“I’m excited to welcome Scott to Huddersfield Town. Our fans will have seen in our games against Fulham last season what a good player he is and I know his abilities will suit our style of play very well.

“Scott is a good physical presence and is a very capable defender, plus he adds a lot going forward. He shows good football intelligence to time his forward runs and can setup goals for teammates and scoring them himself.

“We already have a very good left back in Chris Löwe and a real young talent in Tareiq Holmes-Dennis, but as we enter our first Premier League season it is so important to have competition and the ability to rotate our side, as we did so successfully last season.”[/article]

Boris Mathis - Everton (free transfer)

A product of Lyon’s academy, Mathis joined Metz in 2015 and made his professional debut for the Ligue 1 outfit in April 2017.

“I am very happy and honoured to sign for Everton,” he told evertonfc.com. “It is a great club and I have always liked English football and the Premier League.

“I have followed Everton from France. The Club has some great players and I’m very excited to become part of it.

“My first impressions have been very good. I like the movement and the intensity of the players. Everyone has also been very welcoming to me as well, which has been nice.

“David Unsworth is a very good coach. Of course, he played in the Premier League and I can already see how good he is.”

Known for his pace and technical ability, Mathis revealed his ultimate goal is to one day play under Ronald Koeman in the first team.

“My dream is to play for the first team here,” he added. “Ronald Koeman is a huge figure, not only as a coach now but his reputation as a player speaks for itself as well.

“I want to play in the Premier League for Everton.”[/article]

Jean-Kévin Augustin - RB Leipzig (reportedly €13 million)

Charlie Taylor - Burnley (compensation fee)

[article]Left-back Charlie Taylor has joined the Clarets on a four-year deal after reaching the end of his existing contract at Leeds United.

Having turned down the offer of a new deal at Elland Road, a fee to bring the 23-year-old defender to Turf Moor is yet to be determined.

Taylor started his career at Leeds, where he spent 14 years. A youth graduate, he was awarded a professional contract in the summer of 2011, signing an initial three-year deal.

His senior debut followed early in the 2011/12 season and the York-born defender made two Championship appearances for Leeds during a campaign which also saw him spend a month on loan at Bradford City.

Loan spells at York City and Inverness Caledonian Thistle followed during the 2012/13 season and Taylor was on the move again in 2013/14.

Signed for Fleetwood Town by former Burnley midfielder Graham Alexander in October, 2013, Taylor stayed for the remainder of the season and played a key role as the Cod Army were promoted via the League Two play-offs.

He was rewarded back at Leeds with a new three-year contract and the former England U19 international began to establish himself in the first team during a turbulent spell for the former Football League champions.

Despite several changes of management at Elland Road, Taylor clocked up the appearances - playing 52 consecutive Championship games before sustaining an injury in December, 2016 - and enhancing a reputation as one of the best young left-backs outside the Premier League.

After being crowned Player of the Year in the 2015/16 season, he was offered a new deal at Leeds but opted not to sign, paving the way for a move away from the club after they just missed out on the Championship play-offs under Garry Monk in 2017.

Taylor left Leeds after making 104 appearances for the club to make the jump to the Premier League and take on a new challenge with the Clarets as manager Sean Dyche’s first summer signing ahead of the 2017/18 campaign[/article]

Vicente Iborra - Leicester (reportedly £12.3 million)

[article]Leicester City Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Vicente Iborra from Spanish side Sevilla for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal at King Power Stadium, having been with the La Liga side since 2013 – including two appearances against the Foxes in last season’s UEFA Champions League.

As a consistent and influential performer, Iborra’s four seasons in Sevilla saw him lift the UEFA Europa League trophy on no less than three occasions, while clocking up more than 170 appearances across all competitions.

Iborra becomes Leicester City’s second signing of the summer, following the addition of Harry Maguire from Hull City last month and will link up with his new team-mates ahead of a pre-season training camp in Austria next week.

Speaking exclusively to LCFC, Iborra said: “I’m very happy to be here with Leicester City and I’m looking forward to experiencing the Premier League with my new team-mates next season. Everything about this Club seems good and it’s been great to meet my new team-mates. I’ve already spoken with them about the city and the Club so I can’t wait to get started.”

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare added: “I’m absolutely delighted that Vicente has joined us. He’s player with such a good pedigree from his time in Spain with Sevilla and he adds some really strong competition to our squad.”

Valencia-born Iborra began his career with Spanish side Levante after progressing through the youth system, where he quickly established himself as a key member of the squad in a defensive midfield role.

At 6ft 3ins, Iborra is an imposing presence in the centre of the park, and when he added goals to his already impressive performances, with seven strikes in 2012/13, Sevilla were persuaded to make a move for him that summer.

Iborra featured heavily in each of his four campaigns with Sevilla and continued to find the net from his deep-lying midfield position. He scored 30 times in total – including a hat-trick against Celta Vigo last term.

With Sevilla, Iborra captained the team for the last two seasons and lifted the Europa League in 2014, 2015 and 2016.[/article]

Roque Mesa - Swansea (£11 million)

[article]SWANSEA CITY ARE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THE SIGNING OF MIDFIELDER ROQUE MESA FROM LAS PALMAS FOR £11MILLION.

The midfielder has penned a four-year contract with the Swans after completing his medical this morning.

The 28-year-old adds further options in midfield along with captain Leon Britton, Jack Cork, Tom Carroll, Ki Sung-Yueng, Leroy Fer, Jay Fulton and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Mesa ends a seven-year association with Las Palmas, who he helped earn promotion back to Spain’s top flight in 2015.

He made 35 appearances last season – scoring once – as Las Palmas finished 14th in La Liga.

His stock has risen considerably during his time in Spanish football’s top tier, with Roque Mesa building a reputation for his passing style and ability on the ball.[/article]
