Olufela Olomola - Scunthorpe (free transfer)

[article]Scunthorpe United are delighted to announce Southampton striker Olufela Olomola as our first signing of the summer, joining on a free transfer.

The 20-year-old forward pens a three-year deal and will link up with the Iron squad when they return for pre-season training ahead of the new season.

Olomola is an Arsenal graduate and joined Southampton in 2014. He enjoyed a loan spell with Yeovil Town in League Two last season, where he scored seven goals in 18 league starts between August and January.

Olomola has represented England at Under-19 level, has captained the Arsenal Under-18s and most recently was a part of the Saints Under-23s side that got to the Southampton FA Senior Cup Final.[/article]

Manuel Pellegrini - West Ham (First Team Manager)

[article]West Ham United are delighted to confirm the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as the Club’s new First Team Manager.

The former Villarreal, Real Madrid, Malaga and Manchester City boss – a Premier League title winner and Champions League semi-finalist – has signed a three-year contract at London Stadium after leaving Chinese Super League club Hebei China Fortune.

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan said: “I am delighted to welcome Manuel Pellegrini to West Ham United. He is one of the world’s most respected football coaches and we look forward to working with him.

“It was important that we appointed someone with knowledge and experience of the Premier League, who already has an understanding – not only of the teams and players we face – but of West Ham United and our ambitions.

“Manuel brings a reputation for attacking football and getting the best out of his players. We believe he will attract new talent to the London Stadium as well as improving the current squad.

“Above all, he is a winner, who knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level and is driven to continue that success. Manuel is the first West Ham United manager to have a Premier League title on his CV, and we believe that his experience, quality and proven record of taking teams forward quickly will ensure that he is successful here.

“We have listened to fans who asked us to be ambitious. We hope they agree it is an exciting appointment.

“Manuel will shortly announce the names of the new staff he will bring in and he will then get down to shaping the squad he wants. We all wish him the very best of luck.”

Chilean Pellegrini returns to England just two years after leaving Manchester City, where he enjoyed the fifth highest win percentage in Premier League history during his three years in charge, and arguably helped lay the foundations for the stunning success subsequently enjoyed under Pep Guardiola, having signed the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Otamendi in 2015

In a magnificent debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium in 2013/14, Pellegrini led City to Premier League glory, becoming the first coach from outside of Europe to win the title, and also lifted the League Cup in the same season. City finished that campaign having scored 151 goals in all competitions – still an English record.

Pellegrini won another League Cup in his final season in Manchester, before making way for Guardiola in the summer of 2016. For the past two years, Pellegrini has been in charge of Chinese Super League club Hebei China Fortune, but recently stated his strong motivation to return to the Premier League if the right opportunity came along.

The 64-year-old’s managerial career stretches back 30 years to his early days coaching in his native Chile and then Argentina, where he managed the mighty River Plate in 2002/03, before heading to Europe a year later. In his first season in Spain with Villarreal, he led the club to Champions League qualification after finishing third in La Liga, and repeated the feat in his first full year with Malaga in 2012 – reaching the competition for the first time in their history.

Ronan Curtis - Portsmouth (reportedly £100k)

[article]Pompey have reached an agreement with Derry City to sign Ronan Curtis.

The 22-year-old winger has penned a pre-contract two-year deal and is set to officially become a Blues player on June 9 when the international transfer window reopens.

Curtis – who has represented Republic of Ireland up to under-21 level – will join for an undisclosed fee.

Assistant manager Joe Gallen said: “He’s someone we’ve tracked for the past few months. He’s got a lot of pace and power, and is good in the air as well, so we’re really pleased to bring him here.”[/article]

Lucien Favre - Dortmund

[article]Champions League participants Borussia Dortmund have appointed Lucien Favre as their head coach. The 60-year-old Swiss tactician has signed a contract until 30 June 2020.

Favre joins from French club OGC Nice, with whom he was competing for the Ligue 1 title for much of the 2016/17 season before ultimately securing a sensational third-place finish. This term, he just missed out on a UEFA Europa League berth with the outsiders.

Favre has become a familiar face in the Bundesliga over the last decade. He guided Hertha BSC to a fourth-place finish in the 2008/09 season, before joining Borussia Mönchengladbach midway through 2011/12. Despite taking over in a precarious position, with the Foals languishing down in 18th, he helped them secure safety via the play-off.

Favre is seen as a fastidious coach, whose major strengths include developing both individual players and whole teams.

BVB Sporting Director Michael Zorc said: “The appointment of Lucien Favre as coach is an important aspect of our fresh sporting start this summer. He’s highly regarded by us for the technical qualities that he demonstrated in impressive style many times throughout his spells with Hertha BSC and Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga, and more recently with Nice.”

Of his new challenge, Lucien Favre said: “Coaching Borussia Dortmund is an exciting task that I’m delighted to take on. I’d like to thank the directors for the faith they’ve shown in me. We’ll now work together on the new team. BVB is one of the most interesting clubs in Europe and I’m looking forward to returning to the Bundesliga, which I know extremely well and always kept an eye on during my two years in Nice.”

During a playing career that saw him capped 24 times by his country, Lucien Favre was voted Swiss Footballer of the Year in 1983 and became a Swiss champion with Servette in 1985. He later became coach at the Geneva-based club, where he won the 2001 Swiss cup, before taking over at FC Zürich, whom he led to two Swiss titles (2006 and 2007) and the 2005 Swiss cup.

Lucien Favre will be unveiled at the beginning of July and will then start to prepare for the 2018/19 season with his new team.[/article]

Leon Balogun - Brighton (free transfer)

[article]Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Nigeria international defender Leon Balogun.

The 29-year-old centre-back joins on a free transfer after leaving Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05, and has signed a two-year deal with the club.

Albion manager Chris Hughton said, “I am delighted to welcome Leon to the club. He will add more depth to our defensive options, and I am pleased to get our first piece of business done so early in the summer.

“He is in the peak years of his career and I am sure he will integrate well into the squad.

“He also has valuable experience, having played in the Bundesliga, the Europa League and at international level.”

The 6ft 3in defender began his club career at Turkiyemspor Berlin in July 2007, before further moves to Hannover and Werder Bremen.

Brief spells at Fortuna Dusseldorf and SV Darmstadt 98 followed before he joined Mainz in July 2015, where he has made a total of 58 appearances, scoring once.

Berlin-born Balogun is eligible to play for Nigeria through his father, and has 14 caps to his name.

He missed out on the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after breaking his foot shortly before the tournament, but has been named in the preliminary 30-man squad for Russia 2018 after helping the Super Eagles to qualify.[/article]

Another good one off the Derry City production line.

Gary Rowett - Stoke City (Manager)

[article]STOKE CITY are delighted to confirm the appointment of Gary Rowett as the Club’s new manager.

The 44-year-old has signed a three-year contract after the Potters agreed a compensation package with Derby County.

Peter and John Coates said: “We are delighted to be able to move so quickly to secure Gary’s services and we are now looking forward to working with him towards our objective of returning to the Premier League as soon as possible.”

Rowett launched his managerial career with Burton Albion, guiding them to a fourth place finish in League Two in his first season in charge. He took them to sixth the following season before joining Championship side Birmingham in October 2014.

They were 21st in the table when he arrived and went on to finish 10th but in December 2016 he was removed from his role at St Andrews following a change in ownership, despite the fact the side were seventh in the table at the time.

He was appointed manager of Derby in March of last year and in his first full season – the 2017/18 campaign – they finished sixth, losing to Fulham in the Play-Off semi-finals.

As a player, Rowett made more than 400 league and cup appearances for Cambridge, Everton, Blackpool (on loan), Derby, Birmingham, Leicester, Charlton and Burton.[/article]

Unai Emery - Arsenal (Head Coach)

[article]Unai Emery is to become our new head coach. He joins the club after completing a two-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain, where he recently landed the treble of Ligue 1, Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue.

Unai, 46, previously spent three seasons with Sevilla, leading them to an unprecedented three consecutive Europa League titles, establishing the club as a major force in the Spanish league.

Announcing the appointment, chief executive Ivan Gazidis said: “Unai has an outstanding track record of success throughout his career, has developed some of the best young talent in Europe and plays an exciting, progressive style of football that fits Arsenal perfectly. His hard-working and passionate approach and his sense of values on and off the pitch make him the ideal person to take us forward.

All were interested in the position and we were unanimous in our choice of Unai to drive the next chapter of our history.”

Majority owner Stan Kroenke said: “We’re delighted to welcome Unai to Arsenal. He’s a proven winner. We’re confident that he is the right person for the job and that he will work to deliver the triumphs our fans, staff and everyone who cares about Arsenal want.

“Several things stood out during his interview and the entire process; his football knowledge, energy, determination and love of the game. His familiarity with our club and our players, the Premier League and the game in Europe were all very impressive. He shares our vision to move forward, to build on the platform created by Arsène Wenger and help this club enjoy greater success.”

I’m excited about what we can do together and I look forward to giving everyone who loves Arsenal some special moments and memories.”

Yan Dhanda - Swansea (free transfer)

[article]
SWANSEA CITY HAVE COMPLETED THE SIGNING OF LIVERPOOL YOUNGSTER YAN DHANDA ON A FREE TRANSFER.

Dhanda has penned a two-year deal at the Liberty Stadium after opting to leave the Reds because he is hungry to play first-team football.

And the 19-year-old attacking midfielder cannot wait to get started in Swans colours.

“I am really happy to be here,” Dhanda said.

“I was excited from the minute I knew Swansea were interested in signing me. I just wanted to get the deal done.

“I wasn’t really getting a chance at Liverpool and I wanted to come somewhere where I hope I will have a better chance to play in the first team. I want to show what I can do.

“Once I knew Swansea were interested, I felt the club would suit me. I have watched the football they have played over the years and I hope coming here will bring out the best in me.”

Dhanda, who hails from Dudley, was on West Bromwich Albion’s books from the age of six but moved to Liverpool back in 2013.

He went on to sign a two-and-a-half-year professional deal with the Reds midway through the 2015-16 season.

But Dhanda, a former England Under-17 international, feels the time is right to move on.

He hopes the move to Wales will see him push for a senior debut in the not too distant future.

“I could have stayed at Liverpool but I think coming to Swansea is the best thing for me,” added Dhanda, who scored for Liverpool’s under-23s against the Swans last August.

“I am coming here to see how I get on in the first few weeks and then we will see where I’m at.

“Hopefully I will get a chance to train with the first team and show what I can do. As long as I am playing weekly, I don’t mind if it’s for the first team or the under-23s.

“If I get that chance to train with the first team, it’s down to me to show what I am capable of.”

Lukas Hradecky - Leverkusen (free transfer)

[article]Bayer 04 Leverkusen have signed Finland goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky for next season. The 28-year-old joins the Werkself from DFB Cup winners Eintracht Frankfurt. Hradecky has penned a five-year deal to 30 June 2023.

“We are very happy to have brought in an outstanding goalkeeper. Lukas Hradecky is a brilliant Bundesliga keeper, has great experience as an international and he was one of the absolute top players at Frankfurt. He certainly demonstrated his qualities in the Cup final win,” declared Bayer 04 sporting director Rudi Völler.

For the 36-time international, the move to Bayer 04 is “an important step in my career. Bayer 04 are a top club in the Bundesliga and the team plays attractive, attacking football and regularly feature in Europe,” said Hradecky. “I’d like to continue to develop at this level and I’m sure we can achieve a lot at Leverkusen in the coming years.”

In the eyes of sporting manager Jonas Boldt, Hradecky is, “one of the best keepers in the Bundesliga. On the one hand, he has impressive reflexes and is particularly strong in one-on-ones,” declared Boldt who not only sees the qualities of the Finn with Slovakian roots in his ability to play in goal. “Lukas is a very positive and open person who can take the lead but is also very much a team player. As an experienced and open-minded pro, who speaks several languages including German, he will bring stability to our young team on and off the pitch. We very much looking forward to the next few years with him.”

Hradecky, the third Finnish player at Bayer 04 after Sami Hyypiä and Joel Pohjanpalo, was born in Bratislava on 24 November 1989. Shortly after that, his family moved to the city of Turku in southern Finland. There he spent his early career with the local club Turun Palloseura. After making his professional debut he moved to Denmark. The 1.90 m tall goalkeeper played for Esbjerg fB for three and a half years before moving on to top Danish club Brondby IF the two seasons. There he was spotted by Eintracht Frankfurt and in 2015 he signed for the Hesen club.

In his first season, Hradecky helped keep Frankfurt in the Bundesliga and in the following two campaigns they finished eleventh and eighth. The team coached by Niko Kovac reached the DFB Cup final in 2017 and 2018 – with the 3-1 win against Bayern Munich at the weekend being the high point. In his three years at Frankfurt, Lukas Hradecky only missed one Bundesliga game due to suspension.
