Could the Indian League become a major league?

I think it will be wildly popular over there. A complete non starter for me in terms of watching it here though. I never watch LFC masters either. Why the fuck would you?!

I'm going to a game on Tuesday. It's being promoted in a huge way here, but whether it's going to do anything for investing in good football infrastructure at all levels of the game is another thing.

Btw, it's not a 5-a-side league. It's a regular 11-a-side competition being played over 2 months, IPL style.

It could be the dominant league for 5 a side football, that's the niche its going for.

Cancel that statement. It will rival the middle east, USA and Australia for players to go when they're too old for any league in Europe.

It will probably increase interest in football, which will be good for teams in the top leagues but whether it'll do that much for the game in India... who knows.

Awwww fuck it. I'm nailing my ISL colours to the wall - Go Althetico De Kolkata!!!

How long has the Oz league been going for?

Players there are basically pub standard and that's being going for a few more years it seems......

Ha ha Brilliiant. Let's keep following them @dmishra. Are they your team too?

Ha, no I'm not really supporting anyone. Just watching it out of interest. The standard was a little higher than I expected tbh. But maybe that's because of the number of foreign players they've got in.

Not sure if this is going to do any good for Indian football at all.

If a sport in a country with 1.2 billion people living in it isn't popular now, now amount of money or razamatazz bullshit can make it so.

It's all very well giving a final pay day to retired top players, but no one in India has heard of these people as no one there gives a toss about football.

That's not entirely true. The EPL is extremely popular here, and has been so for about a decade. At least amongst the younger crowd in larger cities. Might not have much penetration in smaller cities or the hinterland, but even so, there's a decent following and passion for the game in certain states - Bengal, Goa, Kerala and the North East are pretty football crazy. Calcutta regularly sells out a 135,000 crowd for the Mohun Bagan-East Bengal derby.

Peter 'F*^%&%$£^ hell' Reid has a manager job there. Wow.

I won't hear you say a word against Athletico De Kolkata! Fucking boss club!

Besides I see nothing wrong in people (ex players, managers etc) wanting to earn a bit more in the twilight of their careers. I'd deffo do the same if it was me.

What a strange, yet somehow apt, combination. F'quenelle.

Ha ha! I find it all pretty brilliant actually. Watching 100,000 Indians go bonkers for Josemi has to be up there with some of the most surreal things on the planet. One that I'm sure is not lost on the fans either. It's sort of irony squared. I'm in! Come on @gkmacca I know you are a secret Athletico De Kolkata fan! Fess up!
