Could the Indian League become a major league?

I won't hear you say a word against Athletico De Kolkata! Fucking boss club!

Besides I see nothing wrong in people (ex players, managers etc) wanting to earn a bit more in the twilight of their careers. I'd deffo do the same if it was me.

It was more an exclamation of surprise that he can still get a managerial job.

It's all very well giving a final pay day to retired top players, but no one in India has heard of these people as no one there gives a toss about football.

Absolute Bullshit mate. If you dont know anything about a country or the fan following there, dont make stupid statements like these.

India has a significant football fan following. The EPL is wildly popular. In major parts of India, football players have a cult like following.

India is shit at football though. We were somewhat decent once ( in the 1950s). But lack of investment in infrastructure, crappy politics lead to the decline of the national team. But in terms of the craze and knowledge of football, it is up there.

Go to the East Bengal - Mohun Bagan Derby ( more than 120000 people in the stadium), watch some of the local league football in Kerala, Goa and listen to the pasion from the stands.

and Oh..If LFC ever visits Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, or Kochi for a summer game- you are going to be stunned by the "knowledge" of the fans.

My relatives and extended family dont follow premier league or La liga but they are big fans of international football. I am fairly confident they can take you or anyone you nominate on a quiz on world cup and international football. Let alone not heard of "Alessando Del Piero".

^^^^^ BOOM! I'm on holidays fella but thanks for the update. Go Kolkata!

All 3 of those goals were pretty classy I have to say. Kolkata bossing it!

This is good. If they pay well maybe we can sell Mario to them - I mean we could not sell him to anyone now.

I haven't read beyond the first 10 posts but I can see it being huge - money talks.

The top cricket players can go there, play for 10 weeks and walk off with 1.4m USD.

No reason football can't do even better and that sort of money will attract good players.

India's population gives them a market potential & therefore revenue that no other country can compete with.

India has a ver large number of 20 to 30 people with reasonable earning power....anyone who is selling anything will consider selling it in India.

The demography is very different from China.

Getting crowds of 20-30k for pretty much every game. It's done quite well so far.

But not very many decent Indian footballers on show. Unless you mandate youth teams and academies for all these clubs, the league will eventually be pretty pointless.

Yeah, but there was noise about how this would help India to qualify for the World Cup some time down the line.

It will eventually, it will get people interested. If they keep it up for 10 years plus, it should pay off. So the kids that are 10 years old now get involved.

The trouble is keeping the money in it for that long.
