Cup talk - Spurs at home

Spurs will most likely field a reserve team or some sort of mix, going by Pochettino's comments.

"For me, they are not kids or boys - they are players," Pochettino said. "They can show and prove that they can compete and have the quality to stay in the first team.

"It is the same to play against Gillingham at White Hart Lane and against Liverpool at Anfield.

"They need to show. We believe in them and if my team is the same as against Gillingham or some changes, they need to prove they have quality.

"You know, always the big, big players start their career and they need to make their debut sometimes in a difficult place like Anfield.

"We are involved in Champions League and they [the younger players] are not involved in European competition so it is a good opportunity for our players who do not play too much or the younger players to build their reputation and build their career and confidence for the future."

Too early to talk team news, but there's rumours about Alexander-Arnold taking part, due to him not being involved in the last reserve game, same goes with Ings and Ejaria.

We could possibly see this line up:

----------------------Mignolet
A-A----------Matip--------Klavan-------Moreno

-----Wijnaldum----Lucas------Can

Mané-------------Sturridge--------Coutinho

A good mix, imo.

Ings has been scoring and playing plenty in the youth team or reserves or whatever the fuck it's called these days. His fitness should be at a good level

He deserves a chance. It's not like he's young or doesn't know the Premiership.

It would be ridiculous not to give him a game

It would, but we've said this about previous cup games and he's ended up on the bench. It's pretty obvious Klopp doesn't want him, but to not even give him any sort of reasonable chance seems criminal. I know there was a point made about him building his fitness in the reserves and it being the same as Klopp has treated other players in similar situations, but it seems like his Liverpool career is dead in the water.

He came on in one of the previous cup games and was shoved in midfield to make up the numbers, having little impact on a game that we'd already lost momentum in. He deserves a go and in his natural role.

Yeah, I want to see Ings too. So maybe:

----------------------Mignolet-----------------------
Trent----------Matip--------Klavan-------Moreno
-----------------------Can-----------------------------
---------Wijnaldum----------Grujic-----------------
Ings--------------Sturridge-----------Coutinho---

Ings has to start. He's shown klopp he's a lethal finisher and working hard.

His attitude deserves the opportunity to progress up the ladder

Was Grujic injured yesterday? Seems odd that he didn't make the bench.

Klopp addressed it in the pre-match conference, said that it's unfair that players like Grujic and Ings don't make the bench when they train so well. That's why I think both will start in the cup.

So Lucas made the bench ahead of him, a player that was apparently offered around in the Summer. Strange one..
Strange that Klopp decided to keep a player he didn't want and was offering to other clubs.

Yeah, very odd. Still I'm sure Lucas is glad he is still at anfield, not within a million miles of getting a start, and playing about 20 minutes of football in three months

I should point out that I am very happy with this situation, it could be improved only when he actually does leave the club

I don't really understand that Rurik, he said it's unfair that they don't make the bench after training so well, to explain why they didn't make the bench? I get it with Ings, because we have three strikers in reserve, but with Grujic?

Grujic has Can and Wijnaldum ahead of him. And I guess Klopp prefers to have someone experienced like Lucas on the bench to bring on when we're defending a 1-goal lead (which is exactly what happened). Grujic is a big talent, but he can't fill that role.

BTW, did anybody else enjoy Wijnaldum's performance when he came on? I thought he was super efficient with his passing, simple but always right, which is exactly what we needed at the moment.

He was really unlucky with that shot. He needs a goal I think and he'll probably go on to get a few.

It was widely reported that he was kept because there were concerns about how many fit/ready centre halves we had towards the close of the transfer window.
Though I suspect you already know that.

Studge should start ahead of Ings and I'm a big Ings fan.
Klopp has already said he wants to win this cup so I except a strong team with only a handful of changes not sweeping ones.
Would be wonderful to continue our run at Anfield

Yeah surely Sturridge will start.
Mignolet
Moreno
Klavan
Lovren
Clyne

Lucas
Henderson
Wijnaldum

Firmino
Sturridge
Mane

I wouldnt' start sturridge. at all

He doesn't have the drive recently to perform. He needs a spell of getting splinters on the bench. He needs to learn its the managers way or the highway. I hope to god he learns

Ings however will be chomping at the bit and want to impress.

Or he starts and scores a couple and starts lighting up the league?

We thought that'd happen when he has played this season. It hasn't.

If you can't gee yourself for a game against united then you don't deserve to start for liverpool.

Ings will smash the living shit out of spurs. It'll be like a goal volcano

A Goalcano if you will

HAHAHA I like the goalcano idea and I'm a big big Ings fan but I think you are being a little harsh on Studge.

Don't forget I want him sold, but it doesn't mean I don't think he should play this game.

Against Utd he was starved of the ball and didn't play Saturday.

He's still he best finisher at the club and against a weakened Spurs side should get his confidence back.

If I could I'd start both but if it's one or the other I'd go with Studge.

Kevin Stewart's just been given a new contract, and his old club is Spurs, so he'll probably get a start. I agree about Ings. Otherwise I want a really strong squad - we need to win things to build some momentum.
