Jesus that again? Do you want me to post that Carragher gif that no one talked about?

How come you don't mention that dreadful tackle on Dzeko? Would Agger have done the same?

I really don't see the difference Sakho makes. What I've been reading here about his passing, possession etc is the same type of romanticising people did about Downing, Adam and Carroll. Sakho has done well, but I don't see how he's made that much of difference compared to Agger.
We're still conceding goals no?

His passing actually is better than Aggers though. I'm not entirely convinced the CBs are the real issue anyway it's more like our full backs. You make it sound like Aggers never given away a penalty as well.

Anyhow, according to stats Sakho is better at tackling and passing than Agger but Agger has better stats elsewhere.

All I'm saying is people here want Sakho to be so much better than Agger that they're starting to imagine stuff.

We want Sakho to be good for the benefit of the team. Not everything is about Agger. What a weird comment Modo. I genuinely think you value your little set of players in the Modo club higher than Liverpool Football Club.

Just saw your above comment about fully supporting him. I retract my accusation, RE: Modo Club.

What has this thread got to do with carragher may i ask?

Someone slagged Agger so like any real fan, Modo turns on one of our all time legends.

CONFUSED SMILEY

We were, but he's still got the best clean sheet record in the team.

Keep Sakho in the team, I mean we're still winning.

Whereas you can't help but mention Carragher, even though he's completely irrelevant to the point made. Congratulations on turning another discussion into another scathing act of over defensiveness about one of your favs. I thought you'd be in a happier mood anyway, Hendo is suspended, your prophecy from weeks ago about Lucas playing most of the rest of our games, may finally come to pass. Go Modo.

I don't think I made that prophecy, I said that he must play because our midfield was wank at the time.
Also, congratulation on turning this thread into a Lucas discussion.

Sahko is the best cb we've bought in an age.

I love Skrtel to bits but this lad is going to be a legend.

He's quick, strong, good in the air, got great. Positional sense and always always looks for a forward pass to a midfielder in space first, if that's not on he then looks too carry the ball forward to attract an opposition player to hopefully create space for a pass. His last resorts are always a sideways or hoof pass.

I'm shocked some don't see an immediate improvement on Agger. First off he doesn't nod off and lose his man like Agger does in almost every game.
As for the tackle, Agger wouldn't even have gotten there to make it.

Skrtel Sakho for this season and next

I thought that he was pretty shit at the start. But looking at him carefully he's grown on me.

He's solid, strong and passes the ball well.

Each the I see him play I just got this feeling that he's gonna give the ball away but its getting used to the fact he plays that way!

Definite improvement on agger. I do like agger and want him to stay, but sakho and skrtel would be my first choice partnership easily.

Sakho had one game early on (I can't remember which one it was) when he made a couple of blunders, and that put some people off him. Since then, I think he's been immaculate. To me he is more of a natural CB than Agger, who tends to get out of position and lose the man he is supposed to be marking.

I think a whole bunch of you are acting like morons in this thread. It is possible to praise a player without being unfairly critical of another player.

Agger wouldn't have got there....get a grip. This is the VC we are talking about. Someone who has started whenever he was fit in the last seven years when we have had some terrific defensive displays. May be he knows a thing or two about defending than the bunch of cunts in this thread?

If fitness wasn't an issue it would have been Dager + Skrtel for much of the season and rightly so. All three of them are good strong CBs with uniquely different attributes.

Its funny how everyone is so keen to jump on Modo...just have a look at yourselves.

Immaculate??? You must have been distracted then Ports when he attempted that lesbian scissor move on one of their players in our penalty area. I thought he was off his chump.

I think there's some truth in the idea that Agger gives us a bit more composure, but we lose something in terms of power, aerial domination and positioning at times when he plays.

People used to lay into Skrtel for the amount of mistakes he makes, watch how much covering he does across the backline for his team mates, I'd wager he makes more clearances than most per game and covers more ground at the back. He always seems to be covering for Johnson and more often than not, for the left sided centre back. You can't cover than much ground without making the occasional gaff.

Despite the fee though, I'm not sold on Sakho yet, I think he's industrious and good in the air, he gives us alot more strength too, but he's erratic and we're still conceding goals regardless of who plays.

I think Sahho is erratic too, and has been from his first start. He has vacillated from occasionally selling himself stupidly and diving in, to making absolutely world class last ditch tackles. However, I believe good coaching will help bring the best out in him. Nobody is going to knock him about and give him a hard time, he's athletic, a good passer (despite his awkward style), and he's a great aerial presence for both defensive and attacking situations. He has all the attributes to be a terrific premier league player. He also is a scary looking fucker, which does no harm at all. Sakho has cult hero potential.

People forget that it was his second match after 3 months out injured.
If he looks a bit off in certain situations thats perfectly normal. I've seen enough from him at PSG and in the 15 games he's played for us so far to know that he'll be a legend.

Love him.

Edit:Read his Opta stats from the City game. 100 % duels won and air duels won.
Thats the kind of defender you need.

Ya that's a stat that backs up the erratic comment.

The guy is a beast and a huge step up on what we've got currently.
2nd start in almost 4 months against the supposed best side in the league. Unreal

A few people have described him as pacey, which is ignoring the fact that he looks like he's been running in lead boots in the last couple games.

Is it just something to do with coming back from injury and the pace will come back when he is fully fit / match fit or is the pace thing assumed because of, errr, how can I put this, the fact that he has "grit and steel"?

Sakho has the potential to be the best defender in this league, as mentioned already in this thread he has all the attributes you want and need to be a top centre back, any flaws he does have like rashness in the tackle can be eradicated in time.

I think it more down to him looking a bit slower than usual as he's been out for 3-4 months.
He's not the quickest though but his pace is decent.

He was a sensible buy, I think we can all agree about that, and he's going to improve with good coaching into a truly formidable player. I'm just not going to relax when I watch him for a while yet.

He doesn't make errors that directly lead to goals. The only other defender we have that I can say that for is Jose Enrique.

As long as that holds true, he's as good as any CB around.

I'm still not convinced and my opinion all season has been Skrtel + 1 and I don't have a preference who that 1 is Toure/Agger/sakho because none of them have been overly impressive, Skrtel on the other hand has been imperious.
