Well, there we go. No punishment for Man u for the chants, or for Fellani for his elbows.

UEFA have announced that no action will be taken against either Marouane Fellaini or Manchester United supporters following last week's Europa League clash with Liverpool at Anfield.
Fellaini looked to be facing retrospective punishment after clearly elbowing Emre Can late on in the Reds' 2-0 win in the first leg.
The off-the-ball incident wasn't spotted by Spanish referee Carlos Velasco Carballo and Fellaini could have been hit with a three-match ban.
United fans also blighted the contest by singing vile chants about the Heysel and Hillsborough tragedies and as a club they could have been threatened with sanctions.
However, having now received the referee's report, UEFA have ruled that there is no disciplinary case to be answered.

I don't understand that at all. Can made a meal of it, but he was still clearly hit by Fellaini's raised arm.

Can came out and said it was a nothing incident post - match . That probably helped fellani's cause

It wasnt in the referees report so thats probably why, but not getting fined or charged for the singing is disgusting.
UEFA charged City because their fans booed the CL hymn. Thats obviously more important.

I'm curious - Was the singing audible on the TV? At what point in the game did it happen? I have it on record and want to verify it did happen. If I was at an LFC game and someone started singing the Munich song I'd want to fucking chin the twat - Does anyone remember that wanker who got caught doing monkey chants at Anfield? He was slap in the middle of the Main Stand and no-one did anything! The camera caught him though and he was summarily banned.

This leads me to another question - Has any regular match go-ers ever heard racist chants etc and did anyone actually step up and tell them to shut the fuck up?

Start a new thread mate ...

Close this thread and start a pre match thread instead.
Only 3 days before we go to the "old toilet" and let loose.

Still miffed at the lack of uproar in the media on the constant vile singing/chanting from the United end last night. Shameful.

A few mentions on BBC and that doesn't really cut it. It was full on and pretty constant from the filthy, inbred manc bastards.
To be fair the BBC made a bit of fuss about it, as did lots of journos / sports personalities online, unfortunately none of the tabloids did, probably because most of them are run by or friendly with Murdoch, and they don't want to draw his perfect image into disrepute.

I have been going to Anfield since 1964 and have never heard a racist chant.

Nor have I heard a racist chant at any other ground, to be fair.

It suits the media and the people who make money out of the race relations industry to believe that racist chants are commonplace.

Racist chants are increasingly on the rise over here unfortunately. ADO Den Haag are the worst for it at the moment.

When I used to go regularly it was commonplace, although not amongst our fans. The abuse John Barnes for example used to get was absolutely shameful in away games. It felt like the whole ground was monkey chanting at times.

It happened at a few points during the game. Every time we sang "Fergie's right, your fans are shite", their response was "The Sun was right, you murderers"

I'm just glad that no-one reacted, just a few boo's and that.

And your second question, Ive never heard any racism, but I sit in the lower centenary so it's all a bit posh anyway.

Why did they boo that?

Cheers fella - I read on redcafe that most of them were horrified at The Sun chants. Oh well. I hope there is not a repeat on Thursday.

Anyone on here going?

Why did they boo that?

City went on to win the game 3-1 to qualify for the last 16 with two games to spare.

Much of the City supporters' frustration stems from a decision to play a Champions League match against CSKA Moscow behind closed doors last year because of a series of offences, including racial abuse, from the Russian club's fans.

Fans who had paid to travel to Moscow for the game were not compensated by UEFA, while some CSKA fans were reported to have attended the fixture.

Everton played him as a support striker or striker so he could use his physical playing style in the attacking box and free up space for the other attacking players. Now he is played in central midfield. Would be like us playing Lucas as a striker.

It won't work even if you use a fucking big hammer trying to get the square into the round hole.

Everton played him in a wide variety of positions including central midfield, defensive midfield and second striker.

But unlike Lucas he actually is capable of scoring goals

I'm not sure we need a UEFA investigation and meaningless fine to tell us what we already know; the fans who follow them who go to Anfield are usually a bunch of cunts and have been for some years.

Case closed.

If one player deserves to be sent off due to an opponent simulating an injury it's Fellaini. The man is a thug, pure and simple. I never cease to be amazed at how he gets away with it.

Good Everton player, not good enough for a top team. Bit similar to a lot of signings we seem to make.
Let's hope he plays now.

I swear I think they just make up the rules for this kind of thing to suit them as the go along.

I thought last year if the referee saw the incident, they couldn't take further action because they did not want to be seen to undermine the referee.

Now apparently this year the referee didn't see (or mention) either incident so they can't act.

Total opposites isn't it?

Uefa don't want to generate any headlines that associate them even remotely with chants and singing about tragedies. They would much rather ignore it than add fuel to the fire and have newspapers and television talking about it and media wise this stops the story quicker.
It's far more to do with not upsetting sponsors or not tarnishing the reputation of the Europa League (Ha!) than punishing despicable behaviour which is why they very rarely punish teams for fans being racist or when they do it's with a ridiculously small fine.
It's a complete head in the sand stance from them but not in the least surprising.

I'd rather people focussed on our performance in the game rather than give 3000 idiots a platform for the cuntery.

Yeah they shouldn't do it, but they do. A fine won't stop them, it would be a meaningless gesture to keep the sponsors onside.

Move on, finish the job and be happy we beat them on the pitch and didn't rise to their bait. The moral high ground is a precarious place at the best of times. I'd rather just beat them, and concentrate on the next round.
