On Friday afternoon, the Madrid club announced the appointment of the former Real Madrid striker as their trainer for the next two seasons. It will be the first time Morientes takes charge of a first-team squad after spending the past two campaigns coaching Real Madrid’s B teams.

Along with Beñat Labaien, Morientes will lead an ambitious project in attempt to inject quality into both the third tier of Spanish football and the club from Madrid, who had a difficult season fighting against relegation.

[article]Fernando Morientes has been unveiled as the new coach of Fuenlabrada and will take his first steps in the third tier after his spell in charge of Real Madrid's under-17s (Juvenil B).

The former 'Los Blancos' striker denied that he was offered the chance to be Rafa Benítez's assistant: "It was just a rumour. If it had happened, I don't know what I would have said".

Benítez: "He knows the club inside out. He's won a lot of trophies and forged a distinctive style of play. I wish him the best of luck because I'm very fond of him".

Why he chose Fuenlabrada: "Since I stopped coaching the youth team, my aim has been to return to the dugout. I had opportunities in top flights abroad but this is the right place for me to take a step forward. I'm really excited. I consider Madrid my home".

His philosophy: "I've always sought to take away the best from every coach I've worked with. I don't have a lot of coaching experience, but you could say the experience I gained during my playing career is more important".[/article]
