He's not our biggest problem - not even close - but I hope he moves to Italy or the MLS next year as I doubt his position will shift and he is not a good enough DM, despite what he can create ...

One of the greatest players in our illustrious history, who's one missing medal will go down to a cruel cruel twist of fate, and it's time for us to try and move on ... Or we'll end up like Kobe and the Lakers are this year ... Wait, we're already that.
 
I hope we find a manager that can make painfully obvious decisions like not playing Gerrard every fucking match. I want him to finish his career here though.
 
He doesn't have to go anywhere, he just needs to understand that he isn't the man anymore.
He shouldn't be starting.

We have a joke keeper between the sticks and none of our back 4 can defend.
The problem starts there.
 
Where is he actually playing now? He seems in a non position - no longer DM, but not really anything else. When we attack he's usually just behind the move. When we defend he arrives just too late as a third CB.
 
No player is ever going to tell the manager to drop him.....


It should be BRs job to make a decision on this...

We can't fix that now mate - and unfortunately, Gerrard is a very average DM (did he even make a tackle today?) ... We managed to hold Madrid to a goal with lucas protecting the back 4. He needs to start going forward until we can get better.
Lovren needs to be dropped
Mignolet is done at Liverpool too.

We also need a player to fill in the void Suarez left as a leader ...

It isn't that simple - adequate protection for a defence makes their job a hell of a lot easier.

Yes, our CBs are playing like shit, and our GK is scared of the ball but Gerrard as DM is so sub par it is ridiculous. He is DREADFUL at this position. It is starting to ruin my memories of him at his peak watching him try to play an incredibly important role that he is time and time again exposed for not being able to perform.

But is there any point of playing a defensive midfielder to protect a back four that's going to fuck it up regardless.
It's robbing Peter to pay Paul.
We need a massive clearout at the club but I wouldn't be starting with Gerrard.

You need to remove sentiment from your argument. We should be playing the best players we have for each position, not shoe horning them in.

Gerrard isn't a DM, and he can't do the whole "QB" role when there are no runners ahead of him. He got so many goals last season as they were penos but his shortcomings at DM were clear but overlooked because we'd manage to scrape a victory.

If we play him, it should be in short bursts and up in an attacking position, not for 90 mins twice a week in a DM role that he can't (and largely doesn't) do.
 
Our midfield is a fucking joke.

The pressing game of last year has gone, the mobility of last year has gone, and the creativity has gone.

Why?

Even Henderson and Allen aren't performing like the terriers that they can be.

It's down to a change in coaching by the looks of it.

We need to start from scratch and keep in simple.

A DM who can track runners and tackle (lucas/can)

Slightly further forward is a passing cm who can move about, but isn't expected to burst a blood vessel doing it. Key attributes is ball retention and intelligence (gerrard/allen)

Finally, the 3rd cm is the worker. Continuous movement, gets back to defend and gets up to attack. Runs from deep. Here, hendo/allen/can

Ahead of them I don't care. Coutinho /sterling/lallana in the hole being mario/lambert/Borini. Or 2 wide players of sterling/markovic/lallana/Coutinho behind a front man.

The defence is shite but it needs a DM who doesn't drop so deep and disrupt them. They also need to fucking communicate. I'm praying Sakho is back soon and I'd pair him with Toure.

Johnson is not good enough for a quarter of his wage, let alone the half we're meant to be offering him. Full backs should be Moreno and manquillo.

Why we're not signing Valdes I have no fucking idea
 
We need to get Lucas starting each game for a bit - for me he is relatively calm and assured in that role compared to other options.

My point was there is far bigger problems in that team.
Gerrard at dm is not the answer and probably never will be but I'm far more concerned about the 70 million defence that we have and not one of the cunts can defend.

If Rodgers insists on not learning how to coach defenders, then what can you do.

Ideally both cbs get dropped and put lucas in front of them.

If a manager hasn't the bollocks to drop an out of form player, then the manager deserves to be sacked.

When ego comes before success then times up.

I agree there are other big problems, but they are all interlinked. Our whole defensive unit is made up of GK, DFs and DM. They are all required for it to operate successfully.

Apparently Gerrard is pissed off that he's been offered a pay cut to sign a new deal. He ought to be relieved he's being offered a new deal, full stop. For all of the great ways that he serves the club off the field he's a shambolic mess on the field in recent weeks, if not months.

Yep, spot on.

Keep his image rights the same, maybe even increase them a bit in suarez absence as his global image is more important to us.

Then slash his playing wage. He's gonna be playing less games, & he's less effective now.
