Henderson offers us jack shit most of the time so I personally don't care if he's sold. English premium please.

This is absolute fucking shit.

I was gonna start a thread on Hendo because he seems to have become either the forgotten, or dismissed man around here. Not sure why. Actually, it's probably cos he had an indifferent year due to injuries, which affected his form.

If fit, and I'll be honest and profess no fucking clue as to whether he is close to getting back to fit, he's a great asset for us. He didn't get made captain for no reason. He walks into our side if he's firing and ready to go, and we're a better side for it.

This questioning of him and his suitability is bizarre.

Please do. The Hendo hate is getting out of hand.

That is exactly why. He is really struggling to get fit, his foot may be a real and continuing issue and we've seen more than a few players' careers swirled down the pan due to an inability to recover form and fitness. There has to be a question mark over him. I'm not sure Euro 2016 will have helped or hindered his recovery though I assume they wouldn't have taken him if there were doubts about his fitness. The USA tour should tell us a lot.

Aye. Remember everyone knowing our title chances took a major blow when ge got sent off against City.

I don't expect anything from Lucas, he does his part well imo but if we find a better back up he can go. Allen can be sold as well. Welsh premium there.
Hendo has from what I've seen had one real good season and that was when we almost won the league.
The seasons that preceded and followed that super season were quite meh.
Hope Sunderland gives us at least £20 million.

The seasons previous? You mean his first season when he was a kid learning the ropes? He started to come into his own in his second season after fighting to improve and to get used to the team. He was impressive the season after the title challenge too, despite us having a poor season overall.

He was actually better in 2014/15 than in 2013/14. 6 goals and 10 assists in the league compared to 4 and 7 in the season of the title challenge. Last season was a waste.

How's Hendo's development curve looking? Is he getting better, has he already peaked? I'm not sure.
Is he going to go to a better team if he's sold?
I really don't see the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U, Man C, etc going for him.

I've given up making the argument, people just don't want to see it, their minds are already made up. He's our best midfielder when fit, he's absolutely superb at passing the ball in the final third, probably our best passer of the ball and second only to Milner in the crossing department. Unfortunately for him he's the wrong combination of unexciting and recovering from an injury, and for some people that means he'll never be good enough, oh and Modo just hates English footballers as a rule.

He is a headless chicken. He don't have enough game intelligence. He work his socks off but much of the work is comes to nothing because he make so many wrong runs. I would say that Can is our best midfielder and no one comes even close.

Klopp may of course change that because he i good learning players to make the right runs.

He had a very good season indeed when we came second; his energy, work rate and use of the ball was all very impressive, plus he won back so much possession

He's not the most amazingly gifted or exciting player, and he is a nervous finisher, but at his best he gives you a solid 7/10, sometimes even 8/10.

Following Gerrard as Captain and 'main man' was never going to be a flattering comparison, but did anyone ever think he was going to be as good as him? As if. He's not anywhere that level of quality.

Last season was wrecked by that worrying injury, which seemed to reduce his mobility, speed and power. He was tentative and largely poor. Clearly he needs to get back to his level of the 'nearly season' to merit a place in the side, but if he does then he's an asset.

We don't know yet how good Grujic is, or if Wijnaldum will join, but even so he's still good enough to compete at his best.

He's certainly a far better player than gimps like the dreadful Lucas, the astoundingly mediocre Stewart and Joe Allen. Plus he's far more agile and creative than Emre Can

I've been told by a mate who is a sports journo that Henderson's foot is still a huge problem, and he has not been fully fit since it and they don't know what to do to correct it properly.

Where does Henderson, the 'captain', fit into the team every week if fit, as you have to play your captain every week if fit really.
He's not going to take any of the front 4 spots, for example:
............Sturridge
Coutinho..Firmino..Mane

So does he take one of the two 'DM' roles? Is that getting the best out of him? Partnering Can for example? I'd personally like those two positions to contain a very good DM and a playmaker, neither of which are Henderson. I can't see a regular spot in the team for him, he's defo not one of the front 4, and I'm not sure he's that good in the other 2 spots, so just having him on the bench or in the squad, as a captain? Doesn't make sense. Maybe keep him as a bench player and take the captaincy off him.

Yep, pretty much bang on, the only doubt is whether or not he'll regain that form, which I'm pretty confident he will if he avoids further injury, but he's got to prove it this season. Those claiming he's never been good enough are just laughably wrong.

Well, he's never been exactly great, either. But he's certainly good enough for this Liverpool team, but I worry about that injury. Take away that physicality and mobility and he isn't worth a carrot.

Yep. He was one of the few bright lights of the 2014/2015 season.

You do his passing ability a disservice, he's very effective at picking out passes in the final third, and has a fantastic cross on him, but it would be a big concern if that work rate was hindered though, clearly a massive part of his game.

His fantastic cross is very irregular though. He can bend and dip it in like Gerrard (no surprise there since he probably coached him) but more often than not his crossing / corners / FKs drive me mad with frustration (FFS Hendo ! The oft heard rendition). His passing can also be one of his better assets, but that's often been inconsistent too. He is going to have to step up a rung or two at least to get a chance once all the buying/selling is done with.

Separated from original Thread..

worthy of a discussion.. clearly under appreciated

I think the problem with Hendo apart from his injuries, was the signing of Milner.. I don't think you can look to play them both in the same team, they are both very similar players..

Miner offered more towards the end of last season, and Can was never going to be dropped..

I am hoping he can push on this season, injury free.. its clear he is talented footballer, their is certainly more to come from him

Let's remember this player, Jordan Henderson of 2014-15. Let's hope we will see him playing like this again.

Imagine the stick Ronnie Whelan would have received if the internet was around in the 80s

A fair comment... Solid steady eddy was Whelan... though he so would of been slated for that Own Goal against Man Utd on here... A marvellous own goal it was too..

I mean to this day, I have no idea what he was trying to do...

This is absolute fucking shit.

I don't often disagree with you, but Henderson is fucking woeful, he wouldn't get near the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, City, United or Spurs team. Why? Because 98% of his passes are sideways, 1% backwards and 1% over hit crosses. He runs is like a fucking gibbon, and his shot accuracy is awful.

I could go on all day about why he shouldn't be in our first XI and for once I agree with Modo, I wouldn't mind seeing him sold.

Ming
Moreno
Balotelli
Henderson

In that order are the top 4 I want rid of from our current crop - And yes that's ahead of Benteke.

When he's on from they're a lot more hit than miss, he's got to prove he can get back to that level though, thats the key to all this.

Henderson of 14/15 was a superb player really coming into his own.

Sadly his injury has taken a massive toll on ability to effect games.

Funny I remember Ryan often giving him shit and saying he offers little.

You're letting last season's fleeting appearances (inc. the Euros) cloud your judgement. On form he was quality - penetrating passes, glorious 1-2s, runs in behind defenders, pressing from the front, directing others. He was really coming into his own and I want to see him come back to his best.

I'm a big Hendo fan, but as has been stated repeatedly, one of the qualities that made him such an important player in the two seasons before last was his relentless energy and fitness. That wasn't there last season, and no doubt relatedly, the quality in his chance creating passing was also not evident. If he can get fit, then there isn't a question about him. If he can't replicate the fitness levels of a couple of seasons ago, however, then he's not going to be good enough to play for us.
