Andy Carroll is to miss both of West Ham United's friendly contests in New Zealand after picking up an ankle problem.

The 25-year-old had been hoping to enjoy an injury-free pre-season, allowing him to start the 2014/15 campaign at peak fitness.

Having spent much of last season on the treatment table as he nursed his way back from a serious heel complaint, the last thing he wanted was to suffer a fresh setback.

West Ham hope the problem is not too serious and plan to rest Carroll as a precaution.

They remain confident that the England international will be ready for the start of the new Premier League season and that there will be no repeat of the concerns from 12 months ago.

A statement posted on the club’s official website read: "After assessment by the Club's medical experts, it was decided to let the England international rest for both remaining games and receive intensive treatment to ensure he is fit for the start of the season.
"It should be clear that the affected area is not in any way associated with the previous injury he successfully overcame towards the end of last season."
West Ham are due to face Wellington Phoenix in Auckland on Wednesday morning before travelling to Wellington to play Sydney FC on Saturday.

I think if he could stay fit, he'd be a pretty decent player for a mid-table/top-half PL team. But you'd have to play old school football to get the best out of him. This is just a minor injury by the looks of it, it's not like he's out for 6months of the back of it, would be like ruling Can out for the season after getting a tight calf.
Considering that useless fucker torres was 50mill, it makes the carroll to west ham deal look pretty fair value. I'd say carroll is marginally better than torres now.

You would crap your kecks if he lined up for the blue noses against us in a derby. Other than that, he is just going to slowly slide into nothingness as a footballer.

He seems to be injured every preseason. There's probably no solid evidence to back this up but I can't help thinking it's because he doesn't look after himself when he's not playing.

You're a million times more likely to see a photo of him legless in some club than read the news that he returned to preseason early in a bid to overcome his injury problems.

It's hard to believe it doesn't have something to do with it. He carried a knock going into the summer after his first 6 months with us and instead of working hard for the summer to get back to full fitness for the new season the cunt was at fucking Glastonbury.

He's as unprofessional as they come.

Could honestly see him falling down the leagues by the time he's in his early thirties.

Andy Carroll: West Ham striker faces long lay-off with ankle injury West Ham's Andy Carroll has torn ligaments in his ankle and could be out of action for four months. The former Liverpool player, 25, is set to have an operation on Friday in the United States. Carroll picked up the problem on the Hammers' tour of New Zealand, reporting a sore left ankle in training. He tweeted: "Going under the knife tomorrow morning and absolutely devastated to be missing the start of the season." Jack Sullivan, son of co-owner David, tweeted details of the extent of the injury on Thursday following a question and answer session with his father. He wrote: "Very bad news regarding AC. Torn ligaments in ankle. Operation tomorrow with top surgeon in USA. Will be playing in four months." The club only discovered the full extent of the injury on Thursday evening. Carroll missed West Ham's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wellington Phoenix and the club announced he would miss the rest of the tour. He has been plagued by injury since moving to Upton Park for a club record £15m from Liverpool after impressing during a loan spell. He missed the majority of 2013-14 with a heel problem - managing just 15 league appearances - and also failed to force his way into England's World Cup squad.

Christ. The stories about him ruining his ankles from that jumping technique doesnt sound far off

Will always remain a mystery that one. Nothing about him at that time, never mind since then, ever gave an indication that he was worth that.

Did you see his performance against us when he was at Newcastle? He was fucking unstoppable. On his day he was mint. It's a shame that day only turned out to be once a year...

Yeah, only it doesn't seemingly take much to be immense against our defenders and then disappear for long spells afterwards.

I think he was not particularly bad. But he wasn't worth the fee and was as unprofessional as all get out which was shown by how reluctant Dalglish was to select him even fit.

Sullivan was interviewed about it on TalkSport this morning and admitted that, had they known then what they know now, they wouldn't have signed him (no sh!t Sherlock). He put the blame fairly and squarely on their medical dept, which will go down well. As will the Hammers next season.

Incidentally he also said he and Gold want to see Ravel Morrison in the side but Allardyce won't pick him. That club's heading for a meltdown, I tell ye.

Good. Fucking hate that club.

Their obsession with being some heartbeat of English football cos they had success with England in 66, their fans behaving like they're the only team allowed to play passing football, even the fact that they're Web address when read on their annoying begging radio adverts sounds like a ufc website annoys me. Fuck them.

[article=http://kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=150516&start=2480]Can we all now agree that Andy Carroll is (a) a 24-carat crock, (b) not that much cop, even on the rare occasions when he manages to be semi-fit, and (c) a far, far, far bigger waste of money than even Kieron Dyer?

Some people may be daft enough to still think there'll be a time when he'll be fit and terrorise defences, and be an England striker ...but then, some people won't believe that Elvis is dead, either ...[/article]

I feel bad for him.

I don't. He's pissed his talent up against a wall.
He could've been a good player for us - or any other team for that matter. But he decided he just wanted the money and to get pissed a lot. Well once he's not a football player any more and he's just a fucking nobody - maybe then he'll realize that being great at football when you were young beats the shit out of going to Glastonbury.

The Newcastle youth coaches have behaved absolutely scandalously. They openly admit that when he started as a kid, he was consistently landing wrongly whenever he headed the ball, landing on the edge of the heel of one particular foot. And they never corrected it. So before he even made his debut for the barcodes he already had a history of injuries and complications following from that defect.

Had it been a footballing comparison, it would absolutely have been nonsensical, but I have difficulty believing anyone would have taken it that way.
