It's going to be an odd summer, we are going to be linked from the sublime to the ridiculous for the CB option.

In the last two days alone we have been linked (via some not so strong sources) to:

Virgil Van Dijk (Southampton) - Likely Price - £40m+
Michael Keane (Burnley) - Likely Price £20-25m
Jose Gimenez (A.Madrid) - Likely Price £30m (Buyout £39m)
Harry Maguire (Hull) - Likely Price £8-10m

Feel free to add more names to the list, Personally I'd like to see either of the first two. However I could see us buying Maguire. (which would be odd since it's my son's name although different spelling).

We need at least one new CB. So this makes me happy.

If we signed Michael Keane for 25 million then nothing has changed.

Overpaying for mediocre British talent who's had one good season.

Two good seasons Leo. Hardly a flash in the pan.

Edit - I thought Burnley had been in the premier league for 2 seasons for a moment. My mistake. But in my opinion he is worth around £15m, so as you know English premium means you have to pay more.

Harry will do. I would rather spend the money on other positions like a good decent DM

I'm wavering towards Keane, partly because I think we need more of a Carragher-style CB to play alongside Matip and Keane is the type who will make the blocks, last ditch tackles and be a no-nonsense defender as well as a leader of the back line.

That dutch side is utter choke.

To think an ageing Robben is still their best player/.

What about Promes? We were linked last summer. Anyone keeping their eye on him?

If Saints are really interested in Sakho, that could give us the upper hand in the Van Dijk sweepstakes. I honestly think that would be a good deal for both parties.

I've not seen lots of Van Dijk so I'm leaving myself wide open to being shot down, but this whole let's see what Southampton have available every summer lark seems a bit lazy.

Now I'm going to leave myself wider open to being shot down, but I was disappointed with letting Sakho go. Obviously he has pissed off Klopp with behaviour/attitude, but is there really no way back? It would seem so, which I think is a real shame.

Unorthodox yes, but I think him alongside a steady calm partner like Matip would work.

Van Dijk is a quality defender, we should have snaffled him from Celtic. Yes it's a poor league, but the ones that the fans rave at Celtic about are usually good enough for the Premier League. The current one being Dembele.

Sakho has an error in him, usually by him being a bit of a Bambi on ice. Van Dijk would be an upgrade.

Should have bought van Dijk from Celtic. 12 mill £ is nothing in todays market.
He's developed into one of the best CBs in the league.
He'll probably go to City or Chelsea, which is a shame obviously. 50 mill is a lot of money mind.

Him and Matip could have been our starting CBs for a very long time.

I honestly feel unless we address the GK concern and have a competent DM we'll continue to make howlers at the back. Karius is like a deer in headlights when he see's the ball and Ming mkes beguiling errors which either brings in question his fucalties

For what it's worth I could see Chelsea not being interested in VvD as they look bound to bring back Andreas Christensen from Gladbach which would leave them with Cahill, Zouma, Luiz, Ake and Christensen for the CB positions.

The Sakho for Dijk swap sounds promising. Every time I've seen the Dutchman he has looked impressive - calm, balanced and imperious.

Zouma looks like his days are numbered at Chelsea, Ake probably the same, especially as they brought him back and benched him (I quite like the new Ruud). Christensen is an odd one, he is clearly good enough. Terry is at the end of the line too, so they will look to bring back Christensen and probably add one more in my opinion, especially if they continue with 3 at the back.
