Is it just me about Sterling....?

Was he not called very skillful by that experienced Italian player whose name escapes me, after the last world cup? The one who said he was the only English player to cause them problems.

Anyway, if he thinks he's skilful then he must be.

Edit: it was Pirlo.

Yes, he was. Most of us despise the little sh!tehawk because of the way he behaved to get his move, but trying to convince ourselves he's cr@p is doomed to fail. He's not the finished article but he *is* already a very good player and has years ahead of him in which to improve further, though he's got a sod of a lot of growing up to do in order to achieve that.

to be fair I have met a few City fans... Been with them through thick and thin... They are quite humble, they feel very lucky to be where they are tbh.. No way cocky with it..

But what you are saying are the new generation.. Glory hunters... probably..

I've known a City fan for twenty years. Used to love his gallows humour now he's all a bit cock sure with it. Dead easy to wind up though just tell them they've won everything apart from respect.

The very last bit of that is the important bit JJ. I think he can go two ways dependent on his attitude. But, yeh, little shitehawk hope he fails badly .

I think Pele said that too. And we know what that means ;)

Preferred he stayed over the fee, but him wanting to leave and the cuntish way he went about it meant 49 mil was a great pickup.

Stunning Potential is a bit OTT Doc. We have been seeing this for the past 2 years, he has one real move (pace) and no other 'tricks' (a la e.g. Hazard) to get by his man and his finishing is still abysmal. He's not a natural in front of goal and that's not something you can teach, improve on perhaps but he'll never be a natural and score loads. He's going to be a good PL pro, somewhere long the lines of slightly improved Lennon, but I doubt he'll be at a Top 4 club 3-4 years from now.

I think he has loads of attributes beyond pace, personally. He's surprisingly strong on the ball and a great passer and defends and presses well when his team isn't in possession. He is also a natural at finding space between the lines, especially when he plays centrally. As to his finishing, I fear he may learn to do that too. There is that old idea about being in the position to miss them, and repeatedly he does find himself in scoring positions. That doesn't just happen, he gets himself into those positions. I can still remember an U18s game a good few years ago where he scored 5 goals and was absolutely unstoppable (I think he was 16). So far he hasn't managed to find his composure as often as he'd like when in scoring positions, but you know, I don't doubt he has the self-confidence to attain it. I don't like saying this, and I still think the price they paid remains a gamble because his attitude is suspect, but I'm absolutely happy to stand by the idea he is a player of stunning potential.

Agree with the doc. Look at the way he took to playing the #10 role for us, and to a slightly less effective degree, as a lone forward. He has that game intelligence that Ibe doesn't possess atm. His technical ability, while sound, isn't world class, and we know about his finishing, but at 20 and with all the top-class coaching he's gonna receive and learning from the best around him at City, there's every possibility he'll improve on them.

It's all about his attitude & application.

If he thinks he's made it - he's ruined.

I don't get this world class potential I keep hearing about. He's a winger who can't cross, an attacking midfielder who has poor decision making or a striker who can't shoot. What he can do is beat a man with pace and trickery....that's his game. He's poor at everything else. Oh sorry credit where credit is due he does work hard for the team and isn't scared to tackle. But he will never EVER be a world class player, not even close.

I think in 3 years we will all be saying he did well.

He's happy to sit there and just be a part of a good team, never wants to really impose himself on the game.

Maybe this is the start of a great ascent but he's been average for club n' country this year more often than not ... We'll see after a season which Raheem shows up more often.

Against Estonia! That's a photo for him to hang on his wall I'm sure. I've always thought he was an over rated little shit. Then again I thought that about about C Ronaldo. Goes to show how much I fucking know... Words to the wise. In regards to footy. Never listen to me. Movies, Cricket, Cooking and holidays and maybe writing a smidge and I'm the go to poster. Anything else and I'm fucking clueless.

You're like a modern day Bertie Wooster. ;)

He looks boss with Bony.
Bony has disconcertingly large thighs. Freakish, actually.

As for Sterling; good player and I wish he still played for us, because we miss his pace and goal-threat. But £49m is a lot of money, if spent wisely. Don't know that we have.

I obviously hope he fails miserably at City and ends up at Spurs, West Ham, and then Millwall and finally retires a bitter, unfulfilled and sad person.
