James Milner.

Yup, why he's not captain already is baffling, he's a leader and a winner.

Even at left back he puts in a shift and gets forward well, despite wanting to cut in continuously.

Very intelligent footballer and one I think even rival fans would find it impossible to dislike. Just such a hard working, solid pro who knows what he can and can't do.

It's massively reassuring having a player like him in the starting 11.

His tenacity and consistency are absolutely invaluable for this team that's a bit heavy on flair players and younger players without much winning experience. The transition to LB proved to be a blessing in disguise, allowing him to become one of the first names on the teamsheet, whereas he would have faced stiff competition in midfield or in attack. Great to have a nerveless penalty taker too, just like we did with Gerrard.

Didn't thrill me when we signed him. And I didn't think that he was that great last season to be honest.
But his attitude to do a job at left back, and his execution of said job has been world class.
Well done Mr. Milner.

He was really good yesterday. In my top 3.

The whole LB situation is interesting given Milner's reasons for joining Liverpool in the first place. I wonder whether Klopp pitched it to him as a short-term thing and whether Milner is fine playing wherever as long as he's part of the core team (which he wasn't at City).

Milner's a better left back for us than he is a midfielder.
Im really enjoying seeing him there. He may not like it, but might feel he's more appreciated by supporters and manager at Liverpool for his role than he was at City?
Who knows. But he should be starting every league game there till the end of the season.

I think Rurik talked about this, but the full backs seems to be key in a Klopp team. Milner is a professional and will obviously do a job for the team. I'm guessing Milner also likes this new role as he's become quite early an integral part of it.

They ought to have been, but there were too many sniffy comments saying how underwhelming the whole thing was. Some of those who came out with them should be - probably aren't, but should be - feeling a right load of Charlies by now.

Yes. This is nagging me. As everyone knows, he very obviously doesn't like playing fullback, and one of the main reasons he joined Liverpool was the opportunity to play regularly in his favourite position, central midfield

And while he's a very good footballer, and versatile enough to play anywhere, he does lack a little pace for me at fullback, perhaps.

But he's a professional and the sort of person who will put the team first, rather than his personal preference, and he's doing a very solid job there so far, and still contributing creatively in attack.

What a free signing

Yes you have.

What? Been a fan for a long time?

I do sort of understand that it's not like signing Pogba or Eden Hazard. He was free, 29-30 odd, and seems to have been around for decades.

Plus the whole 'boring James Milner' thing, and his almost pathological lack of showiness.

Allied to that, his versatility and occasional lack of playing time at City, led many to think he's the type of player who can do a decent job in lots of positions, but is always just holding the fort until the next specialist arrives to take his place

And that's sort of true, and he probably left City because of that.

But it's always been so very obvious that he's a fabulously positive person to have in the dressing room and the pitch; selfless, trains hard, consistent, decent lad, and a far better player than he is often given credit for.

He's just always very effective.

And that's all I fucking care about. He might look as if he's lumbering around the pitch in construction boots at times, but that ignores all the times he seems to find space, create a yard, and assist or score goals.

Just a good player, who plays at a consistently high level.

We should have signed him 10 years ago
