Rumors that we are looking to sign him given that Man City has not opened negotiations with him over a new contract. His current deal expires in 2 years.

Improvement on Safehands Mignolet?

Of course he would be an improvement on Ming. He still has room for improvement though, if he was signed they would need to bring in a top quality goal keeping coach to get the best out of him.

Let me rephrase my question, it's quite silly to think he won't be an improvement on Safehands.

Would he make us title challengers?

Ah. No. Well, it depends if he could organise that shower in front of him it might.

We have needed a top quality keeper coach since we had Corrighan destroying keeper after keeper. Acturberg is pointless too.

I don't like him. Especially his temperament. He gets some praise for his 'passion,' but I find it really over the top and quite suspicious in a keeper. It's bordering on camp. Take last week - his team loses narrowly to another outstanding European team in a group stage match, although it's still highly likely City will get through, and he has to be consoled at the end of the game by his team mates (and opponents!) as he blubs on their shoulder (this is against a team he's got to play again in a few weeks!). I've seen him give post match interviews after similar games when you would have thought they'd been relegated the way he was whining on. Some will no doubt love that as a sign of his competitiveness (and, if you want to be cynical about it, it's very PR savvy as far as his relationship with City fans is concerned), but I've not seen truly good keepers that emotionally vulnerable. They're usually dour characters who don't get shaken by anything. With Hart, it's as though he needs you to feel his pain. It seems as if he's on the verge of tears, or self-harm, several times a season. He's a good keeper, most of the time, but I want a good keeper who's more consistent and also much more calm and phlegmatic.

He's bang average. I'd rather have valdes.

He is far from average. He does however blow hot and cold (I know some here would enjoy that).

He was simply brilliant vs. Bayern in midweek.

We are never going to sign him - crap rumour from a crap paper.

After watching Courtois a few times I now want us to have a 2m tall keeper who doesn't need to jump but just picks the ball off the top of strikers heads.

We should have signed Begovic and not Mignolet last summer. A deal was there to be made but City were about to sign him before Mancini got sacked.

Hart would be a great signing imho. But it will never happen. He'll sign a new contract.

Hopefully Valdes can be a very good short term option.

I got slaughtered on here for suggesting Begovic would be a better buy than Mignolet!

I thought we'd sign one of the two, and Mignolet looked pretty decent before he came, was their player of the season etc (I know downing was too). I think the talk was that Begovic was off to one of the other big teams and the deal had been done, maybe that's why we went after Mignolet.

Jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire if we signed Hart imo.

He has got it in him to be really good but someone made the point last night that any keeper would likely look dodgy in our team given the way everyone in front of them plays, Joe Hart strikes me as exactly the guy who would go to shit playing in nets for Liverpool.

I don't think we've ever had a young keeper who's made it successfully with us. I recall names such as Kirkland, Westerveld, young David James, young Brad Friedel, Scott Carson...and now Mignolet.

So yeah, like wine, keepers are more reliable as they age, I suppose ?
