He had one game in particular this Season where he was absolutely unreal - when Mainz beat Bayern Munich. Should be possible to dig up some of his actions from that game I believe.

Anyways a goalie from Germany seems like a sound signing - especially when knowing Klopp knows him well. You'd think.

Decent fee as well.

I know nothing about his guy, but I fee and expect him to be back up, hopefully this is a case of us buying smart and he'll still displace Mignolet, but this was an important position for us.

On a side, I wish for goalies they'd do a compilation of the goals they concede and the mistakes they make, I think that would be far more telling than a highlight reel of their best bits.

Haven't seen it been mentioned here, but Karius won't be available for the first 3 weeks of the league due to commitments with the German olympic team. Good thing we still have Safe Hands Mig on a bumper contract ey.

I do watch a lot of Bundesliga but I haven't really seen Mainz play - so hard for me to comment on him.

What I do like about him is his height & build.

It's been a while since we had a tall strong keeper in goal.

Such wonderous things are in the Echo article, kindly linked by the OP.
Edit: I currently can't 'link the link' perhaps one of you kind chaps could C&P.

Isn't he a bit short for a modern GK? under 6'2?

I'd hope the lack of height means he's pretty quick off his line and good with his feet.

From all those clips you never really see him take command of the box which i find worrying. Looks a good shot stopper but so is mignolet. Those clips dont show him being better than mignolet.

I have a horrible feeling that he is going to be a liability on high balls. He isn't the tallest, and doesn't like catching.

He isn't tall for a keeper.

This season, he has played in every Bundesliga game this season keeping five clean sheets, making fifty-four saves in those appearances with a average claim success rate at 99%, failing to claim a cross just once this season.

This is bollocks. He caught 99% of the crosses that came into his box? So how come he has a reputation for punching rather than catching?

I don't mean to sound sceptical, but you're the poster who "liked his height", even though he's actually two inches shorter than Mignolet.

There is one where he comes off his line, punches the ball cleanly and smashes the forward in the process. More of that please

that will be 99% of those he came for.. weird thing to make stats about.

As is mentioned, 6ft 2 is on the short side for a GK, you'd want your defenders to be that kinda height and the keeper even taller. Unless he has an NBA level spring that could be an issue.

Pepe was 6'2. Lloris is 6'2 as well. They've both done fine in the PL.

If the rest of his game is good, it shouldn't be a major issue.

He'll wear the nr 1 shirt. Good!

And he's 189 cm. Height wont be an issue.
The Bundesliga is very similar in regards to being as competitive and physical as the Premier league. Last time I checked they were crossing the ball and had tall players over there aswell.

Havent seen any of the German journos point out any weakness in all honesty.
Was voted the second best goalkeeper in the BL by the players, only behind Neuer.

So we don't really know if he will start as the number one, or indeed just how good he is, but it's quite gratifying that finally, after crying out for a new goalkeeper for two years, we've signed one

Just the DM, AM, CB, LB, Striker to go now!
