Looks like he's the new gaffa at Everton.

He's done a really good job at Soton, has money and has some pretty decent talent to work with ...

With his ability to bring in really good players from Holland on the cheap, where do people see them ending up next year? Top 10? Top 7? Top 4?

Far from being a done deal is what I last read. He's a good coach, he'd improve them without a doubt, but it will take time.

It would be surprisingly unambitious of Koeman to go to Goodison. If he wanted to leave Southampton, surely he could find himself a better club?

good for him.

hope de boer goes to soton.

everton will finish 7-9th, probably 1 place below us.

If he does really well he'll fuck off to another team, if he doesn't he will still be on massive wages.

Yup, probably feels its a better springboard to a bigger club.
It's mainly the wages for now. 7 million a year is loads for a manager.

He's played for and managed Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord. Don't think he's that arsed about loyalty.

Yes I had some dealings with Dutch people in my business life. They are very friendly and charming but will take you to the cleaners at the first opportunity! The ones I dealt with were also very stubborn. If they didn't want to do something, it was a waste of time trying to get them to agree.

Its a sideways move, if not a step down.
There was talk among the Arsenal fans I know that he could get the job next season if Wenger goes.

Its all about the cash and no ambition with that move to the Blueshite.

Everton are a bigger club than Southampton and he'll be given 100m to spend plus any sales. It's a smart move and a step up IMO.

Id suggest, unfortunately, that Everton was a step up from Soton.

£7m a year for the privilege and all of a sudden he'd need a fairly compelling reason not to go there besides there being no accounting for taste

I'm not sure 'talk among Arsenal fans' is much of a guarantee of anything, and certainly nothing to build a career strategy around.

Everton will make him one of the best paid managers in the world, and he's also been given a large amount of money to spend, far more than he would get at Southampton. Everton are also - by most measures you care to use - a bigger club.

But while he may be tired of the annual struggle to keep his best players on the South Coast, and feel that realistically, he can't take them any further, Everton does seem to be a bit more of a lateral move than people expected.

Oh well, let's hope it's a dismal failure and he regrets it

Biased though I definitely am, I wonder to what extent Everton really are a step up. We've been off the pace in the league for far too long ourselves but we've won a goodly haul of trophies, including one CL (plus another appearance in the Final), in the meantime. They've won bugger all for literally decades, except perhaps the Ridiculous DVD of the Year contest.

It was more an aknowledgement of the work he's done for Soton, that he could get a bigger job then Everton.
They'll lose Lukaku and Stones and he'll get a decent transfer budget.
But so have nearly every other club in the top 6-8 this summer. If Soton get De Boer they'll probably finish above Everton again.
Its a sideways if not a step down in all honesty.
As I said, 6 mill £ a year, he's doing for the money then and thats fair enough.

He didn't need much of that to stabilise a Southampton team supposedly "hollowed out" by a rapacious Liverpool-- in fact haven't we bee jostling for position ever since?.
