Last two weeks of the transfer window

Liverpool and Roma are ready to pounce for 19-year-old Dani Ceballos, whose Real Betis contract is running down.

The midfielder is already a Spain Under-21 international with two caps to his name, despite turning 19 last week.

According to Diario de Sevilla, his contract expires in June 2016 and there are no signs of an extension.

Liverpool lead the race, already presenting a deal worth €1.5m per season, but Roma are also keeping a close eye on the situation.

Ceballos came up through the youth academy at Real Betis.

Last season he scored five goals and provided five assists in 33 Segunda Division games.

Real Betis sporting director Eduardo Macia has urged the media to keep the spotlight off reported Real Madrid target Dani Ceballos.
Betis president Juan Carlos Ollero has denied that Madrid have made an official approach for 19-year-old Ceballos.
But the Bernabeu club have been regularly mentioned in speculation about his future, despite already having young playmakers including Martin Odegaard and Marcos Asensio.
Liverpool and Arsenal are also thought to be monitoring the situation, with Ceballos having taken a starring role in Spain's Under-19 European Championship win.
Ceballos has just 12 months left on his current deal, which reportedly includes a €12 million release clause.
Macia told Estadio Deportivo that Betis had offered the player a new contract and asked for him to be given time to consider his future.
"The board have made an offer to the player and his camp, a very significant new deal," he explained.
"From there, the kid will weigh up the situation and it is he who must make the next step. I am going to ask for the kid to not be in the media glare so that things can be done well."
Macia added that Betis would not necessarily look to sell Ceballos during the transfer window if he did not quickly sign the new deal.
"Until June 2016, Dani Ceballos is a Betis player," the former Valencia, Liverpool and Fiorentina executive said.
"Him signing a new deal or not does not mean we will take another decision. We will look at what is best for Real Betis, and what he considers the best option.
"If he is here, he will be available to the coach until the end of his contract."

Even if Stones goes to Chelsea is he going to start? He is a really good talent and you only have to watch him for a few minutes to see he has all the potential in the world but he still makes a fair few silly mistakes.

I don't see Jose putting up with that. Which would mean Stones is on the bench fighting for back-up minutes with Zouma.

Terry is 34 though, and his contract ends in a year, so while Stones might not be an automatic for a start, he'll still easily get a chance to play a fair number of games if Mourinho wishes to rotate his squad for the 50-odd games they'll be playing. I think Zouma can play CM as well, which means he can also take Mikel's place and be used as a versatile utility player who is able to cover 2 spots.

That would give them a matchday 18 that looks like this (supposing Terry, Cahill still start) with enough minutes to go around. When Terry leaves, Stones, Zouma and Cahill will compete to be the preferred pairing.

GK: Courtois
DF: Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Ivanovic
CM: Matic, Ramires, Oscar
AM/WF: Willian, Hazard, Costa

Subs: Bergovic, Baba Rahman, Stones, Zouma, Fabregas, Remy, Falcao

And Terry has been pretty shite so far. Mourinho blamed his lack of pace on sunday.

Beale said: "Thiago and Joaoa have not played for the U21s in two seasons now, they're very much seen as senior first team members of squad. They needed tonight for minutes, fitness and exposure and I thought both boys acquitted themselves well.

"Obviously Thiago has been away and had an experience outside of England and we're hoping he'll get another loan in the coming weeks alongside Joao."
Asked about Ilori's own desire to stay and fight for a first team place, Beale added: "I think Thiago will benefit from another loan if the option is to stay here and play U21s football.
"I think Thiago will obviously benefit from a loan experience. going and playing in the leagues will be important for him. he had fantastic exposure in the summer playing in the European Championships where I thought he did well.

And for Joao as well, he had a lovely season last year at Brighton so these boys now need to go and play with men in the leagues.
"Obviously it will be the decision of Brendan Rodgers and his staff that if these boys aren't going to be and around the starting team then they need to go and play and keep developing.

First, Ilori needs to stop getting injured. Injured in Granada, injured in Bordeaux, injured in the Euro U21s... he needs to stay fit somehow.

Here's the first part of that interview in today's Echo. I think it gives a bit more context to things:

[article]Speaking after the 3-3 draw at the Merseyrail Community Stadium in Southport, Ilori told the ECHO: "I haven't played for a few months so the most important thing for me was to get back into action.

"It was frustrating to get injured but at the same time I hadn't had a holiday for two years and you need some time off, so it came at the right time.

"I want to play for Liverpool. I don't want to be in Liverpool just to be sitting around. My objective is the same as every other player, we all want to play so everyone's going to fight for their place."

Ilori said the 45 minutes played was a way of easing back into football after missing time due to that niggle.

"It was always the idea just to play the first half. I haven't played for two months so they want to take things slow but I'm a step closer to being 100%.

"It was good tonight. Sometimes it's a bit difficult, I don't really know the players, they don't really know me. We play differently - the last time I played was for the Portugal team where we've known each other for a long time and have our own particular way of playing.

"Being back in Liverpool and getting used to the different way of playing and the players is difficult but it's good.

"I joined Liverpool two seasons ago to play for Liverpool, that is my number one objective so I'm going to do everything to make that happen.

"The injury during the Euros was frustrating, I felt somehow and decided I had to come off but then I played the final and felt great.

"It was frustrating not being able to start with the rest of the group in pre-season but it was better it happened then than in the season.

"Injury wise, I'm now 100%. I chose Liverpool over a few other teams a couple of years ago and it's always been my dream to play in the Premier League. To be at a club like this is a dream come true - the next step is playing for it.

"I just know that I need to carry on working."[/article]

And Terry has been pretty shite so far. Mourinho blamed his lack of pace on sunday.

Terry's always been slow though. If he'd had pace he'd have been among the best CBs who ever played the game. Managers have worked around that for club and country so his slowness has been covered. If Mourinho now thinks he's too slow even for that to work, it'll be interesting to see how often he plays this season.

Rodgers on loan deals for youngsters: "I'm sure one or two will go out on loan - we have the Europa League and cup games. On Rossiter, we have a boy who has been brought up to the first team, he has great maturity and I can see him staying here."

Rodgers: "I'm happy with the players we've brought in up until now, so nothing on players coming in, no.
"Nothing to add on players out, as well as in."

Arsenal set to unveil Karim Benzema before Liverpool game after he passes medical

ARSENAL will unveil the signing of Karim Benzema before kick-off of their game against Liverpool at the Emirates on Monday.

That's the stunning claim from Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, who works for Gazzetta dello Sport.
He believes Benzema will undergo a medical on Monday before completing a stunning move from Real Madrid.
Giulianelli tweeted: "Arsenal are believed to have rented a Gulfstream private jet to accommodate Benzema on Sunday evening.
"He will have a medical Monday early afternoon and be confirmed just before kick off. He will stay in 5 stars hotel London center."

The revelations come just after Rodney Marsh's claim that the Gunners have had an offer for Benzema accepted.
Former QPR and Fulham striker Marsh: “I had a phone call from a mate of mine, and he’s been right on many things, and he said that he believes Real Madrid have accepted a bid somewhere in the region of £48mi for Benzema from Arsenal.
“In the past this guy has always been right, he’s never been wrong yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
Arsenal have so far only added Petr Cech to their first-team squad this summer.

I can't wait for this to be the first time that Rodney's mate has been wrong about something ..

@Arn

It's a bollocks story. Just look at the Real squad and tell me who is going to be their striker when Ronaldo isn't available or rested ? RM just don't have enough strength in depth in attackers (plenty of midfielders) to let him go.

According to reports, Spurs are close to signing Heung-Min Son from Bayer Leverkusen.

Bleah. He was not in their squad for the weekend game against Hannover 96, so maybe there's legs to this one. 22m is the fee twittered about.

Transfer race is heating up before the door slams shut !

And the relentless trolling of Manc fans goes on:

http://www.espnfc.com/story/2582371/man-united-to-make-final-gareth-bale-move-sources

Manchester United will make a last big attempt to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid in the final week of the transfer window and hope to resolve the David De Gea situation at the same time, sources have told ESPN FC.

United have a long-standing interest in Bale, which goes as far back as Real's interest in De Gea, and feel they can now finally leverage the situation to their advantage.

Wonder if its a case of getting either him (reportedly €30 million) or Berahino, or both.

Wonder if its a case of getting either him (reportedly €30 million) or Berahino, or both.

Or none and they settle for Borini. :D :D :D

Okay, I think it'll be either or, rather than both. Their nett spend has been pretty much zero or single-digit stuff for the past 4 seasons, and this window, they're +16m right now. Spending 22m or 25m for a striker would take them to about their par nett spending level, so I can see that happening.

They have a new stadium to build, so I don't think this is the season they'll splurge and double down. Well, not unless they move one of their bigger players, e.g. Lloris.

Rudi Voller on Son (he missed the CL game against Lazio):

"There is a request and there are talks. But nothing is done. Son would not have played today anyway, he was sick at the weekend already. At this moment he is our player,'' he is quoted as telling Germany TV channel Sky.

"I saw many medicals in this business where there was no deal afterwards. We will try to reach an agreement, but only under our conditions.''

So, if the Borini deal goes through and Enrique fucks off to WBA (Joyce). Will we be doing any business late in the window?

Some rumours in the Spanish media about Moreno to Real Madrid.

We got a left back in mind?
