Not an easy draw against a team absolutely flying at the moment. But probably as good as we could get unless it was at Anfield instead.

Potential for shocks in all 4 matches.

Derby v Chelsea
Tottenham v Newcastle
Bournemouth v Liverpool
Sheffield United v Southampton

Matches to be played in the week commencing December 15.

We have a golden opportunity to win this competition, it's a long journey to the south coast, and no doubt Bournemouth will be right up for this and give us quite a game, but win, and we're in the semis. Are the semis played at Wembley? or is that just in the FA Cup?

Also that draw couldn't have been any kinder to premier league clubs, almost suspiciously so.

The Bournemouth midfield is awesome and all of them are EPL standard; Bournemouth's midfield is better than Leicester's, Burnley's, WBA, etc. Up front they are stronger than last season, replacing the decent Grabban with the excellent Callum Wilson. They could beat us but (especially if Sturridge is fit) we should have too much for them going forward; their defence is nothing more than average at Championship level. I would have rather had Southampton or Spurs at Anfield than Bournemouth away.

They looked very adept at counter attacking football, quick on the break, tricky wide men.

Given the meal we made of middlesborough and Swansea, I'm not too fussed who we get.Now City are out bar the teams that face chelsea all the teams could quite easily go to the final.

The semi finals are over two legs aren't they?

I don't know what I'm happier about. The fact we got a nice draw or that we're in the quarter finals already.

I can't believe this the comments. We will beat them easily. Pesam you'd really rather play the flying Southampton at Anfield than a championship side away?

We should be beating Bournemouth. I don't care how good they are, with our squad we should be better....no excuses. We have a major chance for a trophy here.

The game is between Utd away and Arsenal at home. That will have some influence on what team we field in this game.
Bournemouth are absolutly flying at the moment. That could change come December.

Rodgers will definitely play his strongest team. He's desperate to win a trophy. Golden chance for us.

Not so sure. Those are the two teams we're competing with for 3rd/4th. At least they come in the right order (A,A,H). Massive week.

Massive games yes, but we have to win all three of them if we're serious about 4th place, and winning something, I imagine after last seasons trip to Anfield, Arsenal will be up for this one.

Success breeds success and I'd like to see us do well across the board, but 4th place in the league is VASTLY more important than the Capital One Cup. That's an "It would be nice if" bit of window-dressing, nothing more. CL qualification, and the significantly increased financial incentives associated with it, are immeasurably more important for this club's future. Please don't give me the "we exist to win trophies" bit - not all trophies are worth the same, and we exist to win the big ones. That's got to be our permanent priority IMHO.

Yup, I'd fancy us strongly in a home tie against anyone left in the competition apart from Chelsea. I fancy us to beat Bournemouth BUT I'd have preferred a home draw against any of the other teams bar the Chavs.

Also, this year that 4th place & 5th place have a massive financial gulf like never before.

If us, arsenal, or spurs miss out on it then it could be a long time before we can even keep pace 100 yards behind the Joneses.

It's actually not just 2 games but 3 - the week before this game, we play Basel at home in what could be a crucial decider in the CL group. So it's a period of high pressure and likely high-intensity games. While I'd like us to win this trophy, in the bigger scheme of things, I think we should just play our best teams in the other games and stick to the "mixed team" policy that got us through to this round.

That's not to say it's a poor team we're sending. Look at these teams for the past 2 rounds which we fielded:
vs Boro: Mignolet, Toure, Sakho, Enrique, Manquillo, Lucas, Rossiter, Markovic, Sterling, Lallana, Lambert
vs Swansea: Jones, Toure, Lovren, Johnson, Manquillo, Lucas, Henderson, Coutinho, Markovic, Borini, Lambert

We're not taking this competition lightly as we've actually played just 2 youngsters (Rossiter, Williams) and even then, they combined for 90 minutes and we only played one of them at a time. We bought to build depth in the summer, and this is the time for that depth to show itself, either in the form of a direct injection of a backup player or "future project" we acquired (e.g. Lambert and Markovic), or the relegation of an erstwhile regular first team player to a backup role (e.g. Lucas, Johnson, Enrique).

Now, I haven't seen Bournemouth play this season so I'll take Pesam's assessment that their midfield is excellent. However, I also think the upper tier teams in the Championship aren't really too far off the lower tier or newly-promoted teams in the Premier League. Sometimes, they might actually be better, but for some tough luck in the promotion playoffs. A favourable comparison between Bournemouth and teams like Leicester, Burnley and West Brom should be taken as a warning that they won't be pushovers, but it shouldn't also spook us too much.

As for form - well, the game is 1.5 months away.
