I wouldn't normally watch something like this but given the love I have for this squad (Phil Babb aside) thought I would give anyone that didn't know it was on a heads up. It's on LFC TV HD coverage starts at 10am. It's against a Singapore XI whoever that is o_O

LFC squad: Jerzy Dudek, Stephane Henchoz, Steve Harkness, Jan Kromkamp, Phil Babb, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Patrik Berger, David Thompson, Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman, Vladimir Smicer, Michael Thomas, Jari Litmanen, Ian Rush [player-manager], Dietmar Hamann, Emile Heskey.

I comfort myself when looking at the legends by thinking I'm probably nearly as good as them now. I can definitely match them for fatness and lack of speed.

For me, two nailed on, two on-the-fence legends and a bunch of former players on that team of "legends".

Depends on how you defend legend, my friend...

Jersey and Vlad would be barely remembered were it not for THAT night... Does playing HUGE roles in a legendary night make a player a legend? For some, maybe... Not for me. But, to each their own...

Yeah I know what you mean but both will go down in LFC folklore for THAT night. To me - Legends the pair of them. Dudeks double save!!! Vlads strike!!! Oh man I still get goosebumps thinking about it. I'm in no way advocating Traore as a legend just because he also played that night by the way! ;)

Ironically though the fact that you even have to mention Traore makes him some kind of legend, not sure what kind though! The longer time goes on the more the legend will grow. More of an elusive phantom, a yeti in the mountain if you like..

I'd agree with that sentiment - at least to some extent.

That said, how you could leave Didi or Fowler off the list of legends is a little surprising.

Henchoz and McManaman would have some pretty strong claims as well - I personally think Stephane is a true legend; too many great performances. The handball that still frustrates Arsenal fans in the FA cup is practically enough on its own.

I dearly wish I could put Litmanen in there; legend player who simply wasn't with us long enough nor fit enough to cement himself in our memories forever.

That's pretty good for a 'Legends' team to be honest. Often when you see these kind of things the squad is padded out by various reserve and youth players from the past and people we had on loan for a while.

All of those players were first team regulars at times (regrettably in some cases of course) and the vast majority played over 100 games for us. Even some of the shitter ones had their moments!

Legends has become a glorified word for ex players. I don't take too much notice of it when it comes to fielding teams for these kind of events. They need to pad out the teams somehow. I agree that Kromkramp is stretching it though. He barely had a full season here.

I kid you not, at a recent indoor masters' event our team included none other than Jimmy Carter!!

George W in the Goodbye Brendan thread, Jimmy Carter in this one ... will Ronald Reagan make an appearance in the FIFA corruption thread?

I used to watch them a few years back. Our team would regularly include Bob Bolder and John Durnin. Between them they have a total of ZERO first team games for us!

I am pretty sure at one point we even included Craig Hignett, who I don't believe was even a professional player for us. I assume he qualified by just 'being from Liverpool and (presumably being a Liverpool fan'!

I didn't leave Robbie out, mate... I had him and Rushy as true legends, with Didi and Henchoz in my 'arguable' category.

So, a page of discussion on what constitutes a legend, only one post about the match .. and the final scoreline isn't even mentioned !
