Life after Coutinho

Not open for further replies.
Keita would have been a good replacement for Coutinho (the midfield playmaker version). Salah (or Mane, if counting the actual position) has already replaced him in the front 3.

I'm now pretty convinced that Rosco is right that the Keita signing (with Salah) was always intended to pave the way for Coutinho's departure.

And another winger which isn't a priority atm

Modo

Just think .. another Brazillian Lucas !!!! - we all know a Lucas can play anywhere in all positions at the same time, just think how advanced Version II of Lucas will be. We have lost version 1 - lets upgrade.

An inconvenient truth.

Eh? Weren't you banging on in the match thread about FSG being absolved of any blame, because it's not their fault they're not billionaires? Most people's problem with them is exactly this: "these scumbag owners give zero fucks about winning things", which you keep taking offence to, yet have just agreed with.

There's nothing "inconvenient" about it at all, when you've got a manager promising that we've got everything in place to sign big players and owners with a narrative about wanting to compete regularly, while continuously failing sensationally to back that up.

The inconvenient truth is that these owners simply don't have the money to compete.

That's kind of the long and short of it.

Of course they have the money, they just dont want to use any. They said since day 1 that we would spend what we earnt so they never planned on using their money at all.

I'll get over you.
I know I will.
I'll pretend my ships not sinking.
And i'll tell myself.
Im over you.

Cheers. I wouldn't have mentioned it only for the call. He'd been ill for ages and wanted out, much like the little Brazilian cunt. So anyways, back on topic.

Never easy losing a parent.

RIP

Ps that was a cracking joke

Whichever; it doesn't matter. They don't have it, they want to risk it. The upshot is we are not going to compete with the oil clubs.

It's the convenient excuse more than the inconvenient truth.

These days it's the financial power of clubs like City. Before it was Manchester United.

Either way, we've had enough resources over the years to be better than we are and accumulate a couple of titles and the fact that we haven't is on us.

I don't think anyone in their right mind expects us to be up there year in, year out with those clubs these days. It's unsustainable.

But we should be able to build a solid team, buy top class players (there are enough to go around) and have a team that is regularly part of the chasing pack occasionally challenging.

Because of the thread title I'll mention this... My dad died during the week, and my mate just rang and said, oh mate how are you coping, and I said I don't really know, it's awful, and he said mate I don't know what to say, and I said, I know, he only signed a new contract a few months ago.

Oh how we laughed.

Sorry for your loss man!

I agree but it's two different things.

How much money we have/don't have is not how we spend that money.

Draxler is available for 32 million according to the Times.

Swapping Coutinho for Draxler plus ~£90 million is surely good business?

Arsenal are surely all over this if true.
They were looking at him for ages before he joined PSG and are in the market for another wide attacker (after Lemar earlier in the window).

I don't think Klopp is going to want sign Draxler after what happened in January. Not the right type of mentality for Klopp or whatever. This what he said about the whole Draxler thing:

Klopp is bitterly disappointed Wolfsburg winger Draxler has taken a mega offer from Paris Saint-Germain, and says: “We believe that if someone needs to be convinced by money, then at one point - when you really need character - you will not get it.

“Players should know they can earn really serious money here, reasonable money here, but we will not go nuts. We want to convince players about the special character of the club.

“Nobody has to leave Liverpool because of money. Maybe there are a few clubs in world football who can play better and if you can go there, these few clubs, yeah then do it.

“But for all the rest this should be the best place to be. I may have rose-tinted glasses but I would say at the moment that LFC is a really good place to be for a player to develop.

“I can say we don’t want to convince players with money. We want to convince them with the way we go.

“We want to have players who are ready to develop and it’s not a message for the winter transfer window, it’s a message for the next few years.

Here's Draxlers reply:

Asked about compatriot Klopp, Draxler added to BBC World Service: “It’s not about Jurgen Klopp, about Liverpool or about different clubs from England.

“It was just my opinion that I am the best player for PSG at the moment - so that’s what I decided.

“I chose a great new step in my career because PSG is a really, really great club . They have big goals, they want to reach big things and that’s why I want to be part of it.

“I did not - and will not - decide my club just for the money.”

Doesn't look very likely imo.

At this stage in the wondow there is no room for selling Coutinho. No good replacement at any price can be found. So he is stuck with us. However he should be given the 36 shirt or something like that.

Signing Draxler won't fix our problems. Buy 2 CBs, 1 QUALITY LB, GK and a DM would fix our problems

Mbappe wont be going to PSG, after the Monaco bosses found out his father had negotiated with PSG behind their backs.
190 mill € but could have been even more than the Neymar transfer with every bonus, according to L'Equipe.

Just get the 150 mill £ straight cash deal for Coutinho and offer everything upfront for Mbappe.
