Loic Remy

It's a bit odd that we're selling a 23 year old striker worth 14m and replacing him a 27 year old worth 8m, (both with the same length left on contracts).

And it's stranger still that most are happy with that.

And so am I.
Borini is a decent striker thats learning all the time and it showed at Sunderland. He gets into great positions, scores good goals but lacks pace. Thats what Remy has over him and is more versatile. I'm not to disappointed to be honest because Borini coming off the bench doesn't inspire me. Remy will be back up to Sturridge at the least.

I hate to p!$$ on the parade here, but the Borini deal isn't done yet. I've seen reports that he wants to stay at LFC and compete for a place.

BR just has to continue with his transfers and make it clear to Borini that game time will be non existent whereas he will flourish under Poyet.

Roma may take him off our hands or maybe thats what he's hoping for.

QPR striker Loic Remy has flown to Boston, USA to complete a medical ahead of his move to Liverpool, according to Sky sources. Sky Sports reported on Saturday that the two Premier League clubs had agreed an £8.5million fee for his transfer to Anfield, and it is now understood that fee could rise to £11m.

I think this Remy deal is a steal whether it's 8.5 or 11m. It feels right to me. Any variance in the cost I would guess is because there would've been a fair amount of competition for his signature.

If it's true (£11m) then it could be the way the buyout is in his contract, nobody but the player and clubs know. I've seen 'sky sources' cited before when they've been leading with made up tweets. Let's just sign him first, and then there'll prolly be a better idea. Even if £11m, still decent money.

I doubt we'd (or anyone else would) pay over the release clause. if there's any truth in 11m (which I imagine there isn;t) that's the minimum set fee.

Loic Remy underwent his Liverpool medical on Tuesday ahead of his £8.5m move from Queens Park Rangers to Anfield.
The forward flew to Boston to complete the tests, while Liverpool are taking part in their pre-season training at Harvard University.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers and his team have already finalised personal terms and do not expect there to be any problems with the medical meaning Remy should be unveiled as a Red within the next 36 hours.
When the deal is confirmed, Remy will become Liverpool’s fifth summer signing as the club look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

The 27-year-old scored 14 goals in 26 Premier League games on-loan for Newcastle last season and has five goals in 24 caps for France.

Remy’s move is the first of three deals expected to be made by Liverpool in the coming days.
With Luis Suarez being sold to Barcelona and the added workload of Champions League football next season, the Reds are in need of reinforcements and Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi are on the verge of joining Remy at Anfield.
Rodgers has been busy this summer already after securing Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic, Emre Can and Rickie Lambert.
With Remy included to the four previous signings this transfer window, Liverpool have already spent around £65m and are likely to add to that sum soon.

Again, it's a sensible, good value signing.

But it's one that doesn't fill me with confidence that we will be competing for the league next season. Hope I'm proved wrong.

I like Remy. He carried Newcastle for a while last season (with a burst of goals) pretty isolated up top on his own for a number of weeks.

When he got injured their form collapsed. His pace and directness will be useful across the front 3 positions and I'd be hopeful of 10-15 goals league goals from him.

Between Remy and Lambert, they scored 27 premier league goals last season. And we're paying 13.5mill for the pair. No one can moan at that.
If they replicate those figures this season, in a much better team, we'll be laughing.

Usually players score less in better teams. If they manage to come close to 27 goals I'd be delighted.

Yes please.

Has this deal gone belly up or something? He flew out at the beginning of the week and had his medical(s). And the papers were saying he was to be unveiled 'in the next 24hrs' for a few days running, but nothing?

Houllier has some very nice things to say about Remy in this article in the Echo :

“He can create chances as well but I think importantly for Liverpool he is a modern striker.
“Loic is always on the move.
“He is very dynamic, he can play on the left side as well as up front.
“Brendan Rodgers could also use him in behind Daniel Sturridge because his link-up play is equally as impressive.
“He’s a very nice guy as well. Quite quiet but very focused on his job.
“I don’t doubt he’ll be loved at Liverpool both by the fans and the players because he has a superb work ethic. He’ll settle in very well and he has always adapted well to his surroundings.
“But unlike some strikers he isn’t obsessed with goals or targets, for him it’s about producing for the good of the team. He is the perfect example of a team player.”

And Remy has all the facets in his game to be a success on Merseyside. With his back to goal his hold-up play and link-up play is excellent.
Not only does he find pockets of space but he very rarely wastes the ball when in possession - handy for a side who rely on quick transitions in the final third.
On loan at the Magpies last season, he scored 14 goals for a team that appeared almost disinterested from January onwards. In an attacking team like Liverpool, that tally will rise.

Now, statistics are certainly not the be all and end all but with Remy they do highlight the great potential he has. His shot conversion rate (21.54%) was better than both Suarez (20.39%) and Wayne Rooney (20.99%) last term. But the 27-year-old has one asset that stands out – pace. Rodgers’ attacking brand of football is built on a foundation of speed. .......
