It does seem like Salah's form has rattled him somewhat. He looks like he's trying too hard; I don't think in normal state of mind he would have shot from a tight angle with his weaker foot (not even close to hitting the target) instead of passing to 3 open players for a tap-in. He argued over his position on the pitch with Klopp as he was subbed on for the last 5 minutes vs Chelsea, in hindsight maybe even the sending off against City was a part of a pattern of forcing things too much.

I still think that there was something more to "Phil never gives me the ball" joke. Did he mean it to say that Coutinho passes to Salah more, since quite a few of Mo's goals were indeed set up by Phil? He is rattled because he was our best player last season, but now he's not even the best African player at LFC – and the stats show it too:

(as of Thursday)
Salah – 23 games, 18 goals (99mins per goal)
Coutinho – 14 games, 9 goals (117 mins/goal)
Firmino – 22 games, 12 goals (144 mins/goal)
Mane 15 games, 7 goals (159 mins/goal)

Assists: Coutinho and Milner – 7, Firmino and Salah – 6, Mane – 5.

@Ryan wrote that shifting him to the left made him less effective – but in theory there is nothing wrong with a right-footed winger playing on the left and most right-footers actually prefer it nowadays. Earlier in the season Mane looked just as good if not better on the left. But if the problem is not tactical, but psychological, if he got into his head that somehow he's being shortchanged/shifted around to accommodate others – something he never had to contemplate at Southampton or Salzburg – then it could explain the diminished effectiveness. Don't get me wrong – Mane is still an awesome player, even when he is being greedy and all. But I hope he can use the success of Salah as motivation to get even better; so far it seems like the opposite has happened.

There is definetly some truth in this, and Mane is probably as you say trying to hard.
I also think there is some frustration there as he has seen his season stop start with injuries and that suspension.

This is something that will adjust itself in my opinion. Klopp will see it as well and guide Mane in the right direction.
His stats this season are very good regardless mind.

Everyone has blips. We are just fortunate that while Mane is having one he's still scoring and others around him are too.

I'm not overly worried about his form. They'll sit down and analyse that chance and he'll know he's cost the team there.

At least he's trying to match Salah instead of hiding or relaxing.

He looks pissed off which I don't mind but he needs to cut out that shit where an obvious pass is on

This is where Klopp proves his worth as a manager, he's got to manage them and make sure they're happy, simple as. Goes without saying that Mane needs to sort his shit out, but that all starts with the manager.

It's been an interesting season as far as Mane is concerned.

He started brilliantly and it was really encouraging to see him taking real responsibility on the pitch given the unresolved situation with Coutinho at the time. It looked at the time that he was making a bid to take more of a headline role up front.

Then the City game happened. And Salah happened.

Since he's come back, he's looked rusty, overly eager to be the headline act and those two things don't combine well.

Plus he's a selfish cunt who will start to cause trouble.
I was just about to say that @Holle thinks........................

Perhaps with Salah getting all the current headlines he is worried that his dream move to Real/PSG whoever isn't going to happen

Ferguson was good at managing players ego. when they used to get too big for their boots, he used bench them. unfortunately we don’t have that luxury.

Mane has to play when fit, his pace is such a threat to opposition.

Klopp did "rest" him against Chelsea and then in another game, maybe it was fitness related and maybe not.

Not wanting to play harbinger of doom, but Sadio did have something of a reputation at Southampton for starting fast and then dropping off 3-4mths into the season...

Didn't he score 12 in the first half of the season and then nothing in the second half?

I think that's why i had real concerns over the signing. That and metrics that show at 26 your average winger starts declining.

I'm not particularly concerned by Mane at the moment, even though he probably is a bit jealous of Salah stealing the limelight (and his former position in the team). He's still scoring one in two, and is taking the same number of shots per game.

He could easily have a better second half of the season

Yeah but is it an old 26 or a young 26? Me bro told me other day that Lukaku just turned 22, I lolled very loudly.

We've already gone through this. With Senegalese players you cut their donger off and count the rings in the stump to get the age.

And y'all gotta stop negging him, I love Sadio, next person to diss him gets a firework dipped in dogshit fired through their letterbox

Yep, I was right. His form’s suffered a little – not huge, definitely noticeable – since Salah arrived and he shunted to the other side, and in turn he’s taken on a bit of a hump about the whole thing. Not passing that thing on Sunday was completely selfish and he knew it. His face after he ballsed up it fucking infuriated me.

Leave him alone. Are all the other forums and press going on about him or just us lot?

Rawk is also banging on about it. Someone at my local fan club told me that Coutinho and Mane had a training ground bust up before the game, but I never bothered to say before because it sounded like bollocks (and still does).

Rawk is possibly the worst website on the planet, but still, point taken.

We don't expect loyalty from players anymore, especially if they had no affinity for the club in the first place, but I'd hate to lose him.

Mane was our best player last season, so I'm not sure why so many people are combining "I told you so" snark with having a full blown eppy.

He's ace.

He'll come back strong, I think thats the kind of player he is. A goal and a Klopp hug will sort it all out.
