this morning & still couldn't enjoy until the celebration at the end.

I was still shitting myself when their first when in, & feeling anxious as all fuck trying to will us to score when they'd equalised.

That's ridiculous, only the 05 cl final normally makes me do that (I'm still convinced dudek isn't gonna make *that* save, or that one of those many Carra sliding blocks is gonna fall short). I think I'm broken.
I was stuck in a small village on top of a hill in Piedmont - near Torino.

With 15 minutes to kick off the group where smashing magnums of Barolo in a little restaurant with no TV, let alone Sky Italia - and all Aussies with no interest in watching the game.

No internet on my phone either.

I was at the point of asking for the keys, going back to our van and going old school on the radio - surely BBC World Service would have it.

Then came the moment of glory. In a moment of desperation, the waiter gets asked where I can watch the game - he shakes his head, my heart sinks - "uno momento".

He disappears..... and returns shortly after waving at me to follow him - he takes me upstairs to the cafe and ushers me behind the counter..... where I find a laptop logged in to Sky Italia, streaming the game!!!!!

I stood there, behind the counter smashing beers & a bottle if Dolcetto- the waiter, a Juventes fan (respect) cheering on the mighty reds with me.

A few diners got a shock when I let off a few yelps of delight....

I'll never forget the experience.

Fecking yuppies. Piedmont indeed ;)

I still get the urge to shout 'hand ball!!!' when Garcia cuts back and the ball hits the defender's arm, before they go on the counter and score against us.

Back to 'normal' now after that glorious weekend of drinking, singing, roaring, hugging and general merriment. one of my favourite trips over and the best atmosphere I've witnessed since the CL semi in 05. I've never been at the ground as early. Went to the Harry for a few but moved down to the Park for a quick one to join in with a sing song. Didn't get to meet anyone for a pint in the Harry as I had my data off and didn't pick up my whatsapp messages but we did bump into George and Portly down by the ground for a quick chat. Randomly Assaidi passed by in his flash car on the way to the ground. Good on him driving up to support his parent club.

Anfield was rocking from the moment we got in. I celebrated those goals as hard as I've celebrated any goal as I can remember. Loved how everyone stayed in the ground after the game. No one wanted to leave. Headed back to the Harry then. Called down to see Bobby in his usual spot and had the usual banter with him. There was people up on tables and chairs singing a chorus of songs. Everything got an airing. Oh and yes, Jager and top of the league shots were flowing.

We had to head off at around 6pm. Jon Fox booked us our taxi and headed for Manc airport. I dunno how that taxi driver stomached it. We were drinking, eating KFC, hanging out the windows waving scarves. Carnage at times. Good ole Craig the taxi driver got us there in one piece anyway.

Cannot wait to come back for Newcastle game. If anyone has a spare can you keep me in mind. I'm a good luck charm. I think I've only seen us lose one of two games in my history of going over.

It's a good job I called up delta for you, the lad who answered sounded like Carra, only on speed, I struggled to understand him & had to confirm twice he had it correct! Obviously one of the downsides to having your call centre based in bootle!

Nothing wrong with Bootle ! Worked there for 5 years and nary a problem.

A mate of mine runs them but I have not seen him for time. Bet he does not have dreads and German paraboots these days.

I worked there for 5 years too (Litherland Road) until a couple of years back.

I wouldn't say there was nothing wrong with the place though!

Delta's newest offices & call centre is based opposite the strand, next to the Beaconsfield pub/social club, one of the worst places I have ever drunk, which is really saying something.

Yeah, I seriously doubt it, they make millions as summer onions said, they charge way less than anyone else & now own fleets of radio cars they lease to other taxi company's as well taxi specific garages too, they're about as close to a monopoly as you get.

Loads of their drivers make extra cash delivering beak too. Allegedly.

Different era ;) I was there ca. 1976-1980. Rough & tough for sure .. sorry to hear it's got worse !
