Lucas added stability to our midfield and I thought he did well, but it was still pulled apart too easily

Gerrard looked better and more comfortable further up

I thought Gerrard was good too though

I thought Lucas, Gerrard and Manquillo also deserved a mention.

To be honest I could easily have put any of them in place of Lambert but the effort he made to get the goal was what I liked. 2 in 2 deserves some kind of recognition.

I really wanted to see both Toure and Lucas start, I thought the latter gave us some steel in midfield, but he had his usual moments of careless, needless fouling. Toure, I just don't get the love for last night, I thought he generally had a poor game, misjudging alot of balls that came in. It was a poor pitch, but his poor clearance led to the first goal and there were a few more hairy moments throughout, even the commentators were saying he couldn't have wished for a poorer start to the game.

I hope they both stay in the team though, being rusty is understandable, but they will give us some experience and assurance. We'll still concede though, because as a team defensively, we're all over the fucking place. The set up is a shambles and we need a rethink behind the scenes on the coaching staff.
 
I agree with Mark....I don't get the Toure nominations in this thread, I thought he was one of our worst players on the night.

Lambert - for making good use of scraps, his effort for the goal, decent link up play, I think he also started the move for the second
Toure - despite a few shockers, for shouting, organising the defense which also made Skrtel look like a football player again
Sterling - would have been at the top if he buried that chance at the end
 
1. Sterling - great performance despite the fact that he could clearly do with a rest.
2. Lambert - has to be first choice up front until we strengthen, and should remain in the picture after that as well.
3. Manquillo - partly for some decent play and partly in sympathy because he got some stick off Henderson which he didn't deserve. He did make mistakes, but so did every player in with a chance of my 3rd place vote.
