Mignolet

I've defended, or rather suggested he'd be okay in the short term for quite a while now, however his hilariously bad positioning for Vardys first goal on Tuesday, and now this, were the last straws, he can stay as our number 2, fine, but we need need a new dominating goalkeeper asap.

We would be second if it were not for the mistakes he's made - as per Wolands post
It's his obsession with playing it short to our defenders and it all turning into s mad panic that's almost as bad - just hoof it down the fucking pitch

I've defended him more than anyone, but today was the last straw. I could live with an excellent shot-stopper who has some problems coming off his line – those things can be mitigated by the defenders to some extent; a keeper with this known weakness could never be world-class, but he could still be very good and teams have won major titles with less than world-class GKs in the past.

But Ming seems to be going in the opposite direction. His problems coming off the line and distribution are not getting any better and now he is not even good at shot-stopping any more. Every week it's a different mistake. This time it's a badly positioned wall and a weak hand. There is no trust left; these days I'm pleasantly surprised every time he makes a save or catches a ball cleanly or doesn't kick the ball straight out of play or gift it to the opposition. That's not good enough.

I don't normally criticize our players too much, and I generally have a soft spot for our goalkeepers (Clemence was immense to me as a kid). Having said that, Mignolet can just fuck right off at this point and that cunt John Achterberg should be run out of dodge with him.

It's staggering how Achterberg has kept his job having overseen one of the best keepers around turn to shit (who's now again performing admirably in Europe), followed by every keeper he's coached since being shit.
Having said that, Mignolet has the thickest football brain I've seen playing for us. He just doesn't understand the game, he's a completely shit football player. Not much any other coach could have done I don't think.

Hes been a joke for 2 years now, hes clearly not good enough and he has proven it time after time. Hows hes survived this long is a mystery, if Klopp genuinely thinks he has the makings of a top class keeper then hes fucking mental.

It doesn't matter now, considering everything else that's wrong with him, but his distribution is actually getting worse over time. It was immediately obvious and we all commented after his first or second game. It's incredible to me that you can get to that level without being able to do the basics competently. Surely he spends fucking hours on it. How can he look like every time he kicks a ball is the first?

Fucking Gololet....

Im tired of his shit performances.

He is completely lacking in confidence and what was clearly a strength is no longer a strength and he has regressed a great extent..

Did he really get a big payrise?

Is it possible that the new deal was offered in order to get more performance based incentives in?

Nail on the head.

Reina is now back being one of the best keepers in the world. The big reason is probably that Achterberg isn't his coach. How can a coach that is shit, and it is a fact that he is shit because everyone that he get his hands on turns to shit, keep his job?

I actullay think that the mistake he did on their second goal was even worse than the first. The defenders block half the goal as they should do but Mignolet could still not figure out what half of the goal he should cover.

He had ~2.5 years left on his contract I believe.

Terrible decision by Klopp. I think he has made too many already. Very little has changed post Rodgers and some things are almost worse.

It's so true that Rodgers would have been on the cross if he had given Ming this 5 year deal. 5 years?????

He's not very good and I despair that Klopp/the club have given him a new deal, but the "I hate him", "he's a twat" comments are ridiculous. Is this what we've become? Sad times.

I seem to recall some people trying to defend him round about late Oct / Nov. He's indefensible, and has been for wel over a year now. The man is a clown and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the bench, let alone given an starting place.

I know its what ive become.
Hes a fucking wab. I actually hate him.
85k a week or whatever of OUR fucking money to perform that spastically week in week out. I fucking loathe him Mark.

You're not alone. The abuse he got yesterday from our fans was as bad as we give the mancs. Our fans hate him.

Yep (and totally agree with you too Oncey - I am in the same boat).

Ignoring the goals for a minute, earlier when he got the hurry up from the Kop to get rid of the ball, and then hurled it straight to their midfield, the abuse he got was truly remarkable. Previously it was either at a "Danny Murphy is passing the ball sideways again" discontented burble by the masses, or isolated individuals giving him the beans. Yesterday it was like full-on mass hysteria lynching mode.

Do you know the worst thing? For 2 or 3 minutes afterwards he tried to rouse his defence, clapping his hands and egging them on. It was literally one of the least convincing things I've ever seen on a football field. You could see his heart wasn't in it, he wanted the ground to open up and swallow him and the defence just completely ignored him.

I'm sure he's probably a very nice man, loving husband and all round good human being. But he is pathetic.

Was it that bad? That will probably just get worse as aswell then. Looks like there isnt a way back for him.
If/when we sign a new 1st choice GK it will be interesting to see if he opts to stay or wants to leave.

Very interesting, thanks for that. Some things you just can't see on TV.

We would be second if it were not for the mistakes he's made - as per Wolands post
Which makes the stat somewhat questionable because even with the best keeper in the world between our sticks there's no way we would have been second this season.

As the saying has it - There is a very fine line between success and failure [emoji48]

The other thing with Mignolet is the collective fear when the ball is played back to him. It unnerves the whole ground.

Our team is so insecure and he's a big contributor to that

I'd prefer Reina in his bedraggled can't be arsed disillusionment than that fucking clown... It is beyond count now how many times he has cost us.

He is so bad.

So bad.

I thought the "good shot stopper" argument was a pretty piss poor argument even when it was reasonably true but now... Fuck him off... Fuck him off now. He has had a handful of good games in four years and dozens of bad ones. It is lunacy to persist with him, lunacy.

the cost of his contract is nothing compared to the overall cost he has had on our team... playing Mig is pretty much gifting every team we play a goal start. I'm not an expert, I've just watched footy for 40 years that's all, that said I just cannot fathom HOW he is still our no.1 it is beyond explanation.

And although I totally understand your sentiment Mark, I for one disagree, it may not be spiritually healthy to do so but I hate what he does to our team... I hate it... And so yes I can say I hate Simon fucking Mignolet... I hate having him in our team...

And so do you I bet.

Well we're soon going to find out in the summer if Klopp is a) utterly clueless about keepers and judging players so a major concern, or b) a ruthless fucking liar and is going to bomb him out.
